There are places? like ? because it feels to me, just like OP mentioned, that attractive female characters are being taken out of games or downgraded hard from previous iterations. You give JRPGs as example, thats a niche genre that I'm not interested in, that means I'm being catered to ?

I get this argument, but it is just reality that people like to see attractive people in entertainment. Sex appeal is a seller.
People prefer not to spend money on entertainment that largely consists of average/ugly people they see on a day to day basis at their local Walmart.
Let's use the cliche horror movie as an example. Who wants to watch two really ugly people having sex in the woods right before the deranged killer slaughters them? Not many.

Seems like a gaming trend. But not a holistic media trend since TV shows, movies and comics typically have their leads and superheroes being good looking, fit, or for guys sometimes ripped.
They can always do the GOW Ragnarok way of making THOR a fat bearded guy with a big nose. But they stick to Chris Hemsworth.
Comic book heroes are more skewed to sexualization and unrealistic dress code (Wonder Woman is a good example. She even wears high heel boots), yet nobody seems to care about Marvel and DC characters.

I hate to break it to some of you, what you think is fucking "ugly" or "pretty" is subjective...you are just saying they are making something you fucking dislike or think is ugly, but at what time did any developer make something 100% all believed was factually "pretty"?
The thing being talked about is not a yes or a no, factual, objective thing.
It never was.
You just think they don't look attractive, that is all you are saying.... the person making some design IN THEIR FUCKING MINDS believes its attractive just like you think your weeboo big eye anime shit is attractive.

There are plenty of people out there who agree with the OP, and like the tweet that was shared by Melonie Mac on the previous page, I've been checking out some of her videos, there are women who also agree with this sentiment. It's something that's being forced on consumers without their demand, and people are getting fed up with it. Women are not just be made uglier, they are removing femininity from women. How women being made to look and behave like men any sort of female empowerment? If anything, it does nothing but shows disrespect for women who accept and enjoy their femininity. And no, people are not just upset because they can't jerk off to it. That's such a stupid way to look at it. Because Swift is the very kind of person who bitches/cries and moans about the reverse. They just want to silence anyone who disagrees with their little world view - but do the exact same thing on the other end of the spectrum.
OT: Already been stated before numerous times. Attractive characters, male and female, are being changed. Men become more feminine, women become more masculine - it is the way of the beta male, which tends to be most game developers these days. They create what they know.
Thankfully this tends to only be an issue in the AAA western market where this idiotic mindset has taken root. Plenty of amazing Indie, A, and AA games across the world cater to fans of attractive men/women that act accordingly.

TV shows and movies are still traditional with hot women and meathead guys. Funny thing is comic superhero movies have got to be among the most stereotypical movies out there with big bulgy male heroes, and slutty dolled up heroines yet nobody cares. You arent going to get many average or ugly people in these roles.
Top Gun Maverick is the most predictable movie plot ever with a good looking cast. You got Tom Cruise flying jet fighters and still looking good at 60 years old and Jennifer Connelly hottie working as a bartender in a pub. Yet people loved it and never heard one person criticize the movie as boy saves the day and gets the girl.
