That's not how you do it.
What you do is that tou don't vote even though the thread is on the frontpage a lot over the course of a month and then you say "LOL GAF TASTE IS TEH SUCK Y NO GOOD GAMES?"

That's actually a pretty good showing for Platinum. Remember that action games are (sadly) kind of niche these days.
My number one recommendation is telling me I should have finished TW 101. I feel ashamed of myself.

Hey this is the thread where the popular vote rules. There are at least 4 games ahead of Resogun that are exclusive to sony platforms that are not on PS4. Hell the Vita is kind of doing better than the PS4 in terms of exclusives.

I know it's boring to post affinity lists, but I'm only doing it to point out that the affinity formula doesn't seem to work so hot when your GOTY list is only three games long. I went with SMT4, Ni no Kuni, and Friday Monsters, and here's what I get:
So #1 is someone with both NNK and Friday Monsters on their list, which makes sense, then there are a couple of people who just voted SMT4 as #1 (but not the 22 other people who did for some reason???) and then a bunch of people who just voted NNK as #2. So yeah, something's not quite right if Schala, who also voted SMT4 at 1 and had Friday Monsters at 4 is not showing up for me. It's all good though, just wanted to point it out.

I think it's pretty impressive where it landed. It's OT was filled with praise when it first landed on XBLA but it wasn't exactly a popular thread as many people didn't get their hands on it until later in the year. 14 isn't bad for the amount of games that GAF plays as a whole.
Want to thank the efforts to bring us this list. So well done.

Well, technically 221 agreed with me ....
Simply not enough of a category to do best moba in all likelihood. Just like there really isn't a big enough open world category to put GTA in, so it ends up in adventure.
His comment said it was one of his favorite games, and a perfect classic shooter. Not only do too few people have a PS4 to make such a comparison fair, but the game was one of the highest rated games of the next-gen launches and is near universally loved by those who have played it. Not making GAF's BEST list also does not mean people wouldn't have chose it in an expanded top 20 list or whatever, and it doesn't mean many who didn't have it on the list don't consider it a "near perfect shooter." It's also a genre that is very under appreciated these days, so by default the voter base would be smaller.
Basically what I am saying is that your metrics are no way to determine that. As an aside, I completely agree with IAmRandom31's assessment, Resogun was one of Sony's best games last year.

Fine let me rephrase it then. Sony is not as focused on supporting the PS4 as much as microsoft is in terms of exclusives.
Edit: So yes it is still a sad result for microsoft but there is a clear reason for it in the case of them having little to no support for the 360. While quiet a lot of sony's efforts are still behind the PS3 and other platforms that are not the PS4.
That is technically also not correct. Microsoft has not released a single PS4 game.

Sony has 30 games in development at their WWS for PS4, and like 14 or 15 of them have been announced. We know this is true for a fact because many of Sony's most major teams remain unaccounted for with unannounced projects, and the news we get about them almost all indicate they're for PS4. That's significantly more than what Microsoft has said they have in development for XBO, by the way.

I am simply commenting on the games that people voted this year. Microsoft's exclusives on the xbox one drew far more attention than their exclusives on the 360.
Sony's best exclusives are still on platforms that are not the PS4.

I would say all of the next-gen 'exclusives' were underwhelming for both companies. XBO's exclusives scored slightly better on average, but none of them would be making lists like these - few if any are regarded amongst the best of the year, just like most of PS4's launch exclusives were lame. If those same games were on 360, they still would not be getting voted into these lists often. They're simply not that calibre of game.
That's the nature of the vast majority of launch titles in general. Rushed out the door, filled with bugs or other issues, limited in content, these games are usually not the standard for which we consider the best games. It's rare we get a Super Mario 64 at launch anymore.

They're more horizontal for sure, so that might disappoint you. Shadow Warrior is straight up old school strafing arena type.
We managed to put it in the top 10 of the High Quality Award at least.

I am not even commenting on the quality of the launch titles. All I am saying is that Microsoft managed to have exclusives on their next gen console that were more popular than their existing console with a massive user base. This isn't even a comment about the quality of the launch titles but rather about how little support there is for the 360 this year from Microsoft first/second party efforts.]
Sony managed to have games on the PS3 and PSV that some people played. Microsoft managed to have games on their console that almost nobody played. (and were willing to put on their GOTY list)

I was NOT expecting BI at #2. Top ten guarenteed, but #2 was a complete shock; I figured GTA V and the Nintendo titles would have at least the top 5 on lock.
Intriguing, especially 4 and 10. It's a sign of either their extreme forms, or their "once you play, you know why" fun...or maybe both!
Sigh...weren't for lack of trying and execution, that's for fucking sure...
I know Kalnos, SteveWinwood (can't forget a man with taste enough in username like that), Toddhunter, and charlequin. Yet again, I am on NO ONE'S recommended list; you'd think there'd be more Japan+Indies people out there or or some from the folks who say they game PC+3DS most often. I probably had a ton just under people's 10 though from 2 or 3.
Recommended:
1. I may get around to it with the inevitable GOTY edition; I'm usually repulsed by most AAA tropes and bored by hour 2 if not, but what people say about TLOU allays my fears a good bit.
2. Nah, seems kinda mined too much from the classic its based on. Glad to see Zelda respect the player's intellect again, though.
3. Gotta get a Wii U. I mean, I shoulda done did, but yeah.
4. I'm worried I'll end up pulling a REAL Brad if I get into this, haha. Again, I shoulda done did, and the kindergarten leagues and GAF groups would be nice to me and let me learn by failing my ass off like I do.

6. That was my 2012. It consumed me.
7. Maybe.
8. No clumsy nostalgia gropes.
9. This is on my list to do.
10. Maybe? I don't like collecting for collecting's sake much; I much more like to collect things that are already useful and can and will be in the future.

Fair enough. Obviously, Microsoft focused all their efforts on getting those games on XBO because they needed it. But, I would say that as far as the percentage of Microsoft exclusives that made the list this year at GAF (the 5% of people's lists or whatever), the reasons are obvious. The games just weren't that spectacular all around, no matter where they would have been.

I really enjoyed the combat in BI, it was a lot of the rest of it I had issues with. The game really wasn't bad at all, though. The dumpster diving was the worst thing, imo.

I'm bummed out that I didn't get around to voting this year. I had started a list with QuizUp, Rayman Legends and Don't Starve, but I left it at that. I guess this past year has been my first on GAF where I didn't play that many big games.
The Last of Us was really cool, though! No arguments there, and I got Infinite lined up next thanks to Plus.

Lol. Whatever helps you sleep at night. Grand theft auto had even higher sales, but fewer people put it on their ballots. I bought it at release but it didn't make my top 10.

Looking over this list, I feel lucky to have been able to play nearly all these games. I agree with it (almost) entirely; wish Guacamelee made it a little higher up. Overall, 2013 was a GREAT year for gaming!
