Haha sorry man! I must have missed it. Thanks anyway though!

Excellent, thanks a lot for all this info. Glad to know #10 isn't important, I was worried I'd be missing something. This all sounds really good. So if I'm not too bothered about the post-Reborn stuff, could I just read everything before the relaunch (1-50, I think) and then skip straight to Winter Soldier? That sounds like something I'd be happy with. Would that work?

You want to go all the way up from the beginning to reborn, and there is great bucky stuff after reborn, as Bucky soldiers on as Cap for awhile. Once you get to Fear itself 7.1, ignore the Cap volume 2 he started with Steve McNiven, and switch over to the two great Cap & Bucky volumes (as mentioned Samnee on one, Franchavilla on the other!) then Winter Soldier v.11-4.

I think that's it. Maybe. It's been awhile XD Or jsut read Criminal, Fatale, Velvet & Gotham Central ;)

And no bother of course, just playing around dude.

Feel like I've been totally neglecting the convo in here the last day but I'm so caught up with Arkham Origins right now, such a good comic book game.

Yeah, in fact there's this great "Bucky Barnes, This is Your Life!" kinda of story with excellent Samnee artwork that would get you up to speed on Winter Soldier.

Nice, thanks for the help guys. So Cap 1-50, Reborn, Cap&Bucky, Winter Soldier. Sounds good to me.

I have Fatale on my shelf! Plus I have all of Gotham Central and Criminal in my Amazon basket, and I'll definitely be picking up Velvet in trade too!

So.. super causal comic reader here.. just been following the main Batman series.. I usually go for the trades.. waiting for Death of the Family.. haven't read it yet

one thing I've noticed.. Batman #18, Batman #19, and Batman #20 don't seem to be part of any trade.. are they independent stories that aren't related to any story arcs? Are they worth getting?

Heads up y'all, this weekend is Halloween Comicfest. Saturday and Sunday comics shops will be handing out select free comics. There are lots of fun-looking all ages comics but I'm most stoked to (try to) get my hands on Simon Spurrier's Disenchanted, Junji Ito Uzumaki, and Pantalones TX Zombinata. There's also Batman, Batman Li'l Gotham, a Cartoon Network Sampler, Sonic, lots of stuff. I think a lot of them are mini comics, but some are regular length issues. I imagine going on Saturday would be best to get the best selection.

Check out the Halloweeen Comicfest site to see the books available.

#18 is related to
the death of Damian Wayne
. It will more than likely be collected in a
Requiem
trade, but I don't think it was announced yet.

#19 and 20 are a great two-part story featuring Clayface, I believe Snyder called it his tribute to B:TAS. I really liked it, and it encouraged me to stick with Snyder's Batman after Death of the Family (I thought that was just okay).

Uzumaki is fucking CRAZY.

Nice, thanks for the help guys. So Cap 1-50, Reborn, Cap&Bucky, Winter Soldier. Sounds good to me.

Wait wait haha. Cap 1-50, Reborn, 600-619, fear itself 7.1, the two cap and bucky trades theeen winter Soldier. There's more after Reborn thats all brilliant bucky stuff, but before the rubbish volume 6 reboot that Brubaker did.

You get a pass...this time! I think I'm going to go after those Brubaker catwoman trades soon, that's one of his few big runs I've never read, and DC are putting it all out in nice new trades, up to 3 volumes now.

Samurai Jack #1 was pretty darn good, Catwoman 24 on the other hand......I seriously can't get through it. Still have to get to Superman 24, not expecting much out of it though.

Oh right! I'll add those to the pile as well. Man, so much Cap. It'll be ages before I even get around to buying them, let alone reading them. Hopefully before the film comes out least.

I know it's a crazy amount. I actually read them pre-trade buying, and I looked at buying up all the trades last year but I need more ultimate collections before I can justify it, there's just so many otherwise haha. Great stuff though, I couldn't believe Cap could be that good when Bru brought out that first arc. I hope the movie is gritty as fuck and fully of people staring at each other with morally ambiguous looks on their faces.

whooo~!!! a list of trades I read recently!!

Y The Last Man vol. 9 - omg, one more left!!!!

Marvel 1602 - got it off comixology sale coz it was written by Neil Gaiman (who I hear is a good writer) and coz it got a lot of great reviews on amazon. Meh... didnt care for it. It was ok, but not really what I wanted to read and I couldnt find anything really cool about it. Since Gaiman was a major reason why I bought it, figure next time I should jus read Sandman instead... put that on sale Comixology!!

Secret 6 - Unhinged. Loved it!!! are there any other good books out like this?? I've been reading Superior Foes which is whatever, may go back and pick up the issues of Suicide Squad I missed, might pick up Red Sonja since Gail Simon writes that too, or I could jus pick up the next volume of Secret 6!!!

Superman - Secret Identity. Like Marvel 1602, I picked this up coz I heard the writer was good. And like 1602, reading Astro City prolly woulda been the better choice lol. But unlike 1602, this story was actually really good and so was the art!! super glad I read this!!

She Hulk - Superhuman Law. This is vol 2 of the Dan Slott run, which I've been trying to hunt down since they're not available digitally. It's also quite good, and I love Juan Bobillo's art!!! I freaked out when I got to an issue that he didnt draw, then did a quick google search and cried upon discovering he did not work on any more issues :( I'll definitely be picking up the next one but it'll be very sad without seeing his art anymore.

my weekend plan is to finish Y!! which I could prolly do tonite lol but wont coz Arkham Origins!

So I am a comic book newb with a question. My 14 year old daughter loves super heroes and said she'd like some comics for Christmas. I haven't read a comic since I got The Death of Superman for my birthday like..15 years ago. She loves Superman, X-Men, Batman, stuff like that. Are there any good series around that I could get the entire collection of and not pay an arm and a leg?

And a really dumb question, how often do new comics come out? We live in a college town so there are like 3 comic book stores around here. So lets assume I find a complete set of some story, but also wanna get her something new. What is out and good? I would really love to get my 11 and 6 year old boys into comics as well, as I know they would just love them. I guess I will just head down to the closest comic shop soon.

When I was 13 I was in love with John Byrne's Sensational She-Hulk. Really fun, and funny, comics. You can actually track those issues down pretty cheap on Amazon. There was also a series that ran recently called She-Hulks that I've heard was really good. I'm sure you could easily find the collections for that, if not in the shop then on Amazon.

For all three I would recommend Atomic Robo and Bone. Bone is very popular with all ages but seems to really strike a cord with children.

I can't really answer your question as I honestly would have no idea what is suitable for a 14 year old. But I can tell you that most comics come out once a month and some of them are bi weekly. In the case of something like Batman he is in so many books that there is always something to read.

Hell I will give it a shot. I think Mad love and other stories would be great for a 14 year old. I loved it and I am 27.

I would recommend Brian K. Vaughn's run on Runaways. It would probably be awesome for a teenager.

Bumblebeetuna I would recommend asking your local comic shop employee about the superhero comics they sell that are suitable for young children (not teens). I know that there are Avengers and Spider-Man monthly comics that are geared towards children specifically but I can't remember their titles.

If you want collections I would recommend Superman Family Adventures and Tiny Titans. They are suitable for children of all-ages. When I bring my Superman Family Adventures trade paperback collection to the daycare where I work, the little boys follow me everywhere and ask me to read the moment it doesn't look like I'm doing 3 things at once.

Atomic Robo sounds like a good fit. Would be appropriate for all your kids really I reckon. I'd also recommend Thor The Mighty Avenger. The Roger Langridge/Chris Samnee series. It's all collected in one handy paperback now. Again appropriate for all ages. Ultimate Spiderman by Bendis/Bagley. Again there's some ultimate collections which collect some of the series. I guess you could probably buy the floppies instore at a cut price as well. DC: The New Fronter. Young Avengers. Runaways.

New comics come out every Wednesdays and the schedules for most books are monthly. Some new Marvel series ship twice a month. Check out sites like comiclist.com for what's coming out in a certain week. I think it's also worth asking in those local comic shops for advice.

Oh man, am I ever enjoying the hell out of Rat Queens. Issue two was awesome. I think Rat Queens and Lazarus are the most fun I'm having with comics right now.

My wife really liked Hush which is a Batman story.

She also said if she likes the Bat universe she would adore Brubakers Catwoman.

For a 14 year old, Ultimate Spider-Man is perfect. Unfortunately, it's kind of a long series so there's no single collection of the whole run.

Batman - hmmmm, Long Halloween seems like a good entry. Hush is good for someone that age who hasn't read a comic before despite it totally being a not good comic.

X-Men - For a self contained story, I have no fuckin' idea. Maybe Season One? Someone else should confirm that.

Here's my recommended list:

Superman: All-Star Superman, any Superman TPB written by Greg Rucka, but sadly his run ends somewhat abruptly

X-Men: Astonishing X-Men by Joss Whedon. While you could get Grant Morrison's run on X-Men, the art may not appeal to her and the writing will seem quite dark, but if you think she can handle it get it.

Batman: Anything by Grant Morrison, his run on Batman was for like 5 or so years, and you can find an easy reading order online. If she ends up liking it enough to get to the Batman and Robin series, then you can also get The Black Mirror.

Ultimate Spiderman is a great book for her too IMO, its a retelling of Spiderman in a modern setting

Daredevil by Mark Waid is also great, it's fun, heartwarming and with magnificent art.

Megaman is great too, but the art may not appeal to everyone.

There's also Lazarus by Greg Rucka, though it might be a bit more mature for her, it takes place an dystopian future where civilization is split into cities and each city is ruled by a Family.

That's it off the top of my head, but feel free to ask for any more series.

Regular single issues tend to be released on a monthly basis, what you want is Trade Paperbacks or TPBs which collect 4-6 issues per book.

Will write more about my week's haul later but for now

Rat Queens #2 was so good, that action scene at the start was great.
Loving the humor and the chemestry between the characters.

Red Lanterns was great.

Guy is perfect for the Corp. Though did anyone else notice that he didn't need to be submerged in the blood lake to keep from going mindless berserker? I assume it's because he has been a Red Lantern before?

Love the tension with Hal.

Love the character development for the other Reds.

Poor Atrocious. Can't catch any breaks.

I liked it when Atrocitus was cuddling with Dex-Starr.

Probably Stephanie. I like Babs but I prefer her as Oracle. I have no opinion on Cassandra, I'm aware she exists but I can't think of anything she was in outside of the arc where she turned evil, but Johns had to retcon it because the creepy anime fans came out of the woodwork.

what?

My favorite Batgirl has always been Barbara. This is in large part due to the animated series, however; I just never got into any of the other Batgirl's that came after her. Cassandra Cain is just sort of boring. She doesn't do anything for me. Stephanie, on the other hand, comes across as an adrenaline junkie who'll do anything to get that high which is more interesting but her back story kind of irks me.

Carrie Kelly from Dark Knight is probably my second favorite. She had that same sort of energy and enthusiasm that Barbara gave me.

I went to that Halloween Comicfest and picked up Uzumaki and Batman lil gotham (also some FF back issues). I come home and my DCBS shipment had arrived, I kind of wish they waited til next week though. -_- Time to read some comics! :D

Babs > Steph > Cassandra

Steph over Cass only because I've read all/most of Steph's Batgirl series and only read the first trade of Cassandra's. I like Babs mainly because of the animated series, Year One, and that her motivation to be Batgirl is simple.
