The Sony PS4 costs ~US$ 1850 in Brazil

As others have already mentioned, and apparently you've chosen to ignore, Microsoft makes the Xbox in Brazil, which means they don't pay import taxes.

Sony did not just decide they really want to fuck over Brazil.

Microsoft manufactures Xbox 360 in Brazil, not XONE. Sony makes PS3s here too. AFAWK, both next gen consoles are imports.

Though, if you have some evidence to the contrary, I'd be happy to retract my statement.

No its not. Being very negative, with all the taxes and a very decent (high) profit margin, it would cost R$2500,00. The estimated price (still with all the taxes and profit) would cost about R$1800,00.

It is impossible to justify this price. They're stealing from us with a high and abusive price; just like everything else in Brasil that is hard to import and with a high demand!

This.

I don't understand this people putting the blame on the country instead of Sony. We had the tax break down a few pages ago and more than a few Brazilian members already stated that it shouldn't cost this much even with all the taxes included, and we also have MS selling the Xbox One (that is more expensive than the PS4 WW) for almost HALF the price Sony is charging for the PS4. How do the taxes apply only to Sony in this case?

Brazil has a serious problem with abusive taxes, sure. But in this particular case it is obviously more than that.

As you also chosen to ignore, there's no proof that the Xbox One is being made on Brasil, and there's no tax that could make the PS4 cost this much.

Sony Brasil is greedy, and has always been, that's the truth. The price will probably go down in 6 months to a much more reasonable price, after the first desperate sales buy it at that price. It was like that with the Vita.

Dude, If you import the PS4 here in Brasil you wouldn't even pay half of the official price.

Just like Sony makes the PS3, but not the PS4.

As I've already said, and you and the others who keep spreading misinformation choose to ignore, Microsoft does not manufacture the Xbox One in Brazil, and will not do so in the foreseeable future.

It's not even a question of "there's no proof it isn't manufactured here". I work in the industry, and I can give you my word that it isn't.

Microsoft manufactures the Xbox 360 in Brazil. But Sony manufactures the PS3 in Brazil too.

Sony did just decide they really want to fuck Brazil over. Just like they did when they simply stopped publishing new content in the Brazilian PlayStation Blog because they fucking forgot to renew their contract with those responsible for updating it.

Also this is after Tretton said "we're gonna try and make the price as close as possible to the US price"

WELL GUESS WHAT IT'S PRETTY CLOSE TO 399 WE JUST ADDED ANOTHER DIGIT IT'S LIKE THE SAME NUMBER

Are you serious in that last part? Omg... lol

Once again, we're being shamelessly robbed. This time around, we can't even figure out who's grabbing our money. And what really pisses me off is that we won't do anything about it, as always. People will try to take individual advantages over the situation, like smuggling consoles from other countries. But we can't really blame them, can we?

I assume this is because there is too much tax evasion going on and the govt needs to increase consumption tax to make up for it?

I live in florida and I see brazilians shopping here all the time.

I'd imagine that the type of Brazilian that can afford to fly up to the States to do casual shopping probably isn't being driven by cheaper prices in the states. The whole "flying to another continent just to go shopping" thing negates that idea imo.

GOD DAMN! I knew prices where high for electronic devices in Brazil, but this is ridiculous. At first, I though of this as a joke, but I really think you guys should come to Chile to buy the damn console, jeez!.

I'm booking for my holidays in January, i plan to go to Valparaiso for 8 days or a bit more. :D

Already did that. Unsucessfull search. =(

We are going in circles.
There's nothing confirmin that the Xbone is goig to be manufactored in Brazil.

As far as we know it's beeing imported too.

I believe Massa will sell PS4s on Mercado Livre for HUGE profits.

I intend to do something similar. I'll get some PS4s from the US for U$399 each and then resell it here for ~R$1,500.

The buyer will be happy, and I'll be even happier.

Nope, I'll buy it there when it reaches R$1600 or so. Should take a couple weeks in the best case scenario. Dollar price seems to be helping but let's see how the stock situation goes.

Sony ordered all of their PR representatives in Brazil to block their Facebook accounts and turn off their phones so we can't reach them.

My God.

For the informed consumer it costs little more than 800$ from Amazon and once demand is met you will find it for little more than 400$ on ebay if your willing to take the risk.

You're welcome to believe that if you wish, but I'm very confident there are laws and policies your government has passed that explain all of that.

No way Sony is being that greedy, this is probably a case of them just being fiscally inneficient as hell when compared to Microsoft. Microsoft probably imports from somewhere else, or Sony has too many middlemen, or something like that.

Sony and other companies in brazil has the great habit of charging way more at new hardware releases, just because is a new release.

The gray market will be happy, Microsoft Brazil will be happy.

And I'm very confident they don't since I actually live here.

This price will get lowered by half in like two months. That's always how it goes.

I understand that you're angry, and I am too. But it's too early to jump to this conclusion. Also, that claim doesn't make sense. Sony, as any other company, wants money. If that absurd price tag was their free choice (id est, without a third party interference), the only people that they would be screwing are themselves, since they won't be selling much consoles over here.

And before you quote me, I don't know what (or who) that third party could be. But considering the scenario we're dealing with, it would be fair to assume that this "external influence" over the price tag exists.

On the other hand, you have great soccer players

In all seriousness, can't you guys import the thing from Chile or Colombia? or maybe SouthAmericaGAF can unite to help our brazilian brothers?

#aPS4forBrazil

Also, there's always a guy who mass buy them and sell them cheap locally, we have lots of them here in Chile.

Your avatar says otherwise. lol

Anyway, If you really are all over the PS4, just import one.
I can garantee you that's what 90% is going to do.

I'm a Halo fan no doubt about that, maybe after see some gameplay of Halo 5 I would go buy the One, but my first choice was the PS4...

And import electronic device is not something I feel comfortable to do, is too much to lose in the line.

Ohhh but they are!

See, I have a lot of friend that went to Miami only to buy baby related clothes, accessories for the newborn. It is worth of it.

I love my country, but this is the kind of thing that make me want to continue living abroad.

This generation I was mostly a PC gamer with a PC that I build with a CPU and GPU bought in the US. The prices for console games are pathetic. For PC I have Steam.

Common sense right here.

If they were just greedy why not charge crazy high prices in the wealthiest nation on earth, the U.S? Then drop the price 2 months later.

Stop with that! If you want to check over, just search about all the taxes the government charge for this kind of product. It WILL NOT finish with that price, and not even near it!

The most pessimistic estimatives were targeting for R$2500,00. The normal estimative were about 1800.

This price is definitely abusive. Very abusive! And thats it!

And for the millionth time, why is the Xbone half the price then? It's not going to be manufactured here, it's going to be imported just like the PS4.

No shit there are external influences, but that doesn't mean a R$ 4000 price tag. What are you guys going to say next, our President is a Microsoft fangirl?

EDIT - Also even if it's for some calamitous bureaucratic reason going at Sony, it's still their fucking fault for having such shitty distribution. If they aren't greedy then they are fucking incompetent.

I'm from Brazil (Sao Paulo) and I'm importing mine from Amazon US, and with import fees it will cost me 1057$ or 2283 Reais (1$ = 2,16 reais).

I ordered the Killzone Bundle, it will be released at nov 15th and I'll be getting it at home at nov 19th...

Back in 2012 I pre ordered the Diablo 3 CE for 230$ (100$ game + 100$ import fee + 30$ shipping, and I got it in 2 days after the release...

I really don't get it, the Xbox one can be bought here for 2200 Reais (around 1050$) but the PS4 at that high 4000 Reais...

BTW, at the PS3 release, some stores were selling it for 8000 reais, and people actually paid for that...

Because there ARE people here that will buy it at R$4000, and when they drop the price, they will get the "lost" sales. People who buy at the grey market would buy it at the grey market anyway, unless it was cheaper than the US price.

Almost everything - from electronics to cars - is overcharged here on Brazil, because there's people who buy it at the prices.

Are some you guys serious? Have you never heard of the Sony tax?

Sony charges these prices in brazil because they can get away with it, simple as that. If they could do the same in rest of the western world they would. These corperations are not your goddamn friends guys.

The reason Sony prices have become more competitive over the last 5 years is the accendance of cheaper competition. They were notorious in the UK for charging £50 more than anyone else, "just because".

That all said, this sounds like a bit more than the Sony tax, dare i say it, it almost seems like corruption.
