The Sony PS4 costs ~US$ 1850 in Brazil

Difference is Microsoft manufactures Xboxes in Brazil, thus avoiding some of the tariffs/taxes. It's not Sony being greedy.

No way in hell US$399 would go up to BR$3999 because of taxes. No way to spin this.

It IS Sony being greedy.

Why it cost so much more that One?
I believed that Sony would be aggressive in these markets.

Why being greedy in Brazialian market only? Sorry, but it doesn't make sense. In every other market PS4 cost less than Xbox One.
Also, brazialian vg market isn't even big enough to justify a greedy behaviour.

Brazil seriously needs to remove video games from their gambling tax.

That's what it is in that country, a gambling tax

There isn't such thing here.

I know what Konami has said, but gambling is illegal here.

As far as I know, games are included in "toys" category.

A rough estimation for the majority of electronics that I buy here in Brazil (like consoles, PC parts, etc ) would be: price in USD x monetary conversion x 2 (for absurd taxes and stuff) = aproximate final price in R$ for us.

For example the XONE: U$499 x 2,20 x 2 = R$ 2.195, which is roughly the price of the pre-order here. But R$3.999??? Jeez..

C'mon people.

Why do you think Microsoft manufacture in Brazil?

Do you think Sony really want to price their console beyond the reach of 99% of Brazillian consumers?

Not to mention at almost twice the price of their competition?

Buy a two-way ticket to Miami buy the PS4 there and pay taxes on the way back. I would bet it would be cheaper even then. Crazy pricing. Even more so considering Xbox One relative price disparity.

Can Brazilians not purchase online on sites like Ebay and have it imported? Or would they somehow know and charge you the difference in customs duties or something?

Forgive me. I live in the US and AFAIK we don't really have import duties on foreign goods unless it's in quantities sufficient for resale. I could be wrong, about that but even if we do I doubt it would make anything nearly 5x as expensive.

Importing is cheaper. If you're taxed, you'll pay about 2x price + shipping, which is gonna be around $1000 at worst. And there's always the chance of not being taxed.

The downside is costumer support.

You can get cheap roundtrip air tickets for as low as $700, so travelling to buy one is also cheaper.

I've lived in Brazil and taxes would not make the price go that high alone.

This is what usually happens:

That`s about the 360, no?

PS3`s are also manufactored in Brazil.

It's highly likely the PS4 will be at some point too, but it's probably not feasible for around launch. I'm guessing the price will drop then. Foxconn are currently building a plant in Brazil to sidestep tariffs.

One thing worst than gaming prices in brasil is the debate about game prices in brasil on the internet.

Nobody knows nothing, but everybody keeps yelling

I'm laughing so much right now. R$1000, right, Jack?

Time to buy plane tickets to my hometown! I get to buy the PS3 in Paraguay and visit the Iguaçu Falls and my aunt :D

gotta pay for this worldcup guys :p

Seriously, I feel sad for brazialian gamers but it seems that flight to US + US PS4 is going to be cheaper, no?

This is perfectly fine because Americans are paid less than Brazilians. I mean how many hours does an American need to work for a console in comparison to a Brazilian.

Probably a lot more.

But Sony manufacture PS3 in Brazil (Manaus) why can't it be the same for PS4 ?

Does Microsoft have a more positive image in Latino communities? It seems Microsoft does quite well in South America, Africa, Balkan countries, Russia etc. cause they seem to manufacture some of their products in such countries.

Definitely not in Brazil. We've always been Sonyland Lite.

Como amo viver nesse país.

300+%?

Jesus Christ. That's insane.

Yep, video games = gambling/casino machines according to our stupid government, so the taxes go up all the way.

But even then, they are probably producing it here, so it doesnt make sense. But yeah I remember people paying 4,500 us dollars for the ps3 when it launched here. Lmao

Sucks to live here if you are a gamer honestly. I will probably buy mine early next year when I am planning a trip to the US, will probably end up being cheaper overall. LoL
