I'd guess Sony decided on the price when analysts were predicting the dollar at BRL 2,70 by the end of the year and just took that to play safe. And then you sum up the taxes, the profit margin and all other crap (logistics, xmas price et al) and we can somehow reach 4k reais.

I'm sure MS was all like "oh shit" when the exchange rate was rising too.

But then bam, dollar rate began to drop (along with the end year predictions), MS went all like "whew" and Sony BR all like "releasing a 399 console for 3999 is a good joke, so let's keep it".

No its not. Being very negative, with all the taxes and a very decent (high) profit margin, it would cost R$2500,00. The estimated price (still with all the taxes and profit) would cost about R$1800,00.

It is impossible to justify this price. They're stealing from us with a high and abusive price; just like everything else in Brasil that is hard to import and with a high demand!

We got several options. We can got to Paraguay, we can buy it from importers that don't give a shit about official prices - the ONLY fucking time I'm so fucking glad Brazil has no sort of MSRP, retailers charge whatever the fuck they want for whatever the fuck they want - and we can just import ourselves. This price won't last nonetheless because no one will pay for this shit aside from rich people with money to burn.

And no, there's no reason for this. Sony has manufacturers here in Brazil, this is a pure dick move.
