Saints Row IV Review Thread

seems like people reviewing the pc version seem to enjoy it more. I guess all the predictions of the game chugging to stream the world while you run at hyper speed were right.

Wow this is looking like a really good game. Too bad there's too much to buy to justify buying this on day one. Down the line purchase definitely.

#Dead. Fuck Bioware.

I just realized it's Keith David asking you this, fucking brilliant haha.

Holy shit even hoity toity Edge liked it!

Just an fyi folks. I think the SR games, as crazy as they are, are hilarious and I hope most of the reviews don't give away too many things. The video review I posted is extremely minimal on story, set peices, and almost devoid of all main mission gameplay. So aka fairly spoiler free.

Man.

I feel that the reason behind Steelport's problems is that Volition spent way too much effort focusing on the special gated environments for missions. These unique mission spaces all have a ton of awesome references and little touches, but the lack of mission replay in the game means that you only get to see them once.

I'm still really looking forward to the game, but I hate the no mission replay thing. If a mission is suitably epic I should be able to replay it without having to start a whole new game! Could even justify it in-universe by having the replays take place in a simulation, or something.

Still stupidly hyped and happy to hear SR4 addresses 3's weirdly paced story and lacking content issues, but disappointed by the no replay thing.

Based on these reviews, definitly not anywhere close to GTA5, but it will keep me occupied for 20 days atleast until the king arrives.
This made me groan out loud, they are completely different styles of games.
Anyway, this looks like the most fun I will have with any game this year.

Does seem to be the case unfortunately. GB quick look seems to indicate it runs like garbage on consoles, with the framerate sometimes being to erratic to gauge jumps accurately, according to Jeff.

Yeah, I'm not actually reading any reviews because of this. Just to be safe. Happy to see the outlets I typically look to loved it though.

Good scores, will check out the game

However i am surprised and slightly worried that GiantBomb did not give it 5 stars, they are the biggest fans of the SR3 in the games media, and the review was even done by Gerstmann, who with Ryan (RIP) were the biggest fans.

feels like the opposite for me. This is gonna look and run great on pc while i feel like i'm gonna be quite disappointed with the framerate of GTA5 :/

Sounds like it's anywhere from 17 to 23 hours for all the SP, side missions and collectables.

I didn't see anything about how long just the SP is.

Not in any way do these games try and compete with eachother.
Also, have you played GTAV?

To be fair he doesn't actually have to play GTA V.

The last one had a 98 metacritic score. It really doesn't even matter how good (or not good if its anything like 4) the next one is, it'll end up with better reviews than this game for various reasons.

Review scores are a lot higher for this game than I was figuring given the stigma the game had of being DLC content being turned into a full fledged game.

SR is no longer GTAS competition. GTA is now scrapping it out with the other Oscar contenders. Right?

I don't like this stye of game, but this is interesting to see two similar games coming out so close to each other. Will be fun to watch the firefight.

WTF is.. by TotalBiscuit

He says that the game has performance issues and dropping frames, he asked Nvidia if they have had the chance to tweak the game before launch and they said no, AMD got that instead. He tried all presets and with SLI enabled/disabled, same problem. He's on Titans also.

We'll see what happens.

Comparing Saints Row to GTA is like comparing Sleeping Dogs with Infamous.

They are not the same. At all. They just share sandbox worlds.

Hm. The reviews are making me interested in the game, but since I wasn't impressed by Saint's Row The Third at all, I'm still not completely convinced.

I run it at 1920x1200, full screen here at work on a 470, maxed out, so it must be something weird with that card.

wow
I thought this would be given 6s or 7s and called "SR3.5"

so that's certainly unexpected scores so far

Didn't Rock Star strong arm some review outlets for that. I'm not really sure it's a forgone conclusion it'll do that well. (Though it may do).

how so? This is pretty much an open world super hero game.

It's definitely evolved a lot from SR1. The first two SRs were closer to the GTA series, but I'd say that SR4 moves more into a direction of Infamous or Crackdown than GTA from what I've seen so far.
