Killzone Shadow Fall (PS4) announced, launch title [1080p/30fps]

That looks beautiful and it highlights that animations were made with 30fps in mind playback in real time, and as such it pops from state to state.

This is the main area they have to improve. Animations and above all impact animations, giving weight to each bullet. The most near to next gen i have seen in this aspect is the Watch Dogs reveal trailer. And of course AI. That you fear for the enemies although you are hidden or in cover. This is something that the first Half Life nailed.

I really like the music when they fly over the city in the beginning of the demo. Gives me a grand and epic sci-fi movie vibe.

I've played both Halo and Killzone franchises. I do prefer Killzone more because the backstory as well as the atmosphere, but I don't think you can compare the two even under the "sci-fi shooter" label. They are two very different styles and approaches to the genre.

Also to those who say that Killzone is changing it's visual approach to reach that COD market, don't forget that the original Killzone took place on Vekta. It's nice to see them exploring that world again.

The only Killzone that got critical acclaim and was loved by many was the one set in the bleak dystopian setting though. The game really should stand apart.

Well, the duality of Halo and Gears of War demonstrated that two sfi-fi shooter franchises can cohexist on the same console without much issues, so I guess that, considering that Sony most probably put on hold Resistance, there won't be problems with Destiny and Killzone.

Yes, I'd rather have Sony launch a new franchise (maybe with a bit more identity) than to pursue the Killzone saga.

From what we've seen i think the game will clearly take place in two different environments. On one side of thew all you have the nice clean fresh sparkly environment (which we were shown in the demo) and on the other side you are gonna get the dark foggy bleak world we all loved in KZ2.

Looking at the smoke effects in the demo... imagine what kind of fog/atmospheric effects we might get in the slums on the Helgan side of the wall!

Nope. That's not the one i was looking for. Not the YouTube-version.

Here (but it's the short 56 sec version):

You can download the 1.1 GB trailer here -> http://presscenter.playstation.com

Events -> Playstation Meeting 2013 -> Software -> Killzone

Click the arrow icon and it should download. But it's only the trailer, not the gameplay vid (there is also a ~900MB trailer for Infamous). VLC had some problems with those files for me, Quicktime player did work.

This gameplay video has imo acceptable quality at 1080p.

mmmmmmmmm Blade Runner.

The visuals give me a Star Wars vibe. The Music has hints of Blade Runner... match made in heaven?

OT: Imagine what KoTOR3 can look like.

Just imagine walking through the slums and suddenly seeing the glow of the Helghast's eyes through the fog.

Did anyone notice Visari's intro speech from KZ1 being played on the screen in the distance at the end of the trailer when the Vektan soldier looks at the Helgan side of the city?

one thing I need to know, does the game have location based damage and realistic hit reaction physics?

I think this is integral in shooter as it give you the satisfaction of shooting someone. it's already doable now with games like Max Payne, Resident Evil, and Last of Us but still not enough game have it I think.

Anyone watched the Killzone PS3 tech demo since seeing the KZ 4 demo ?, looks so bad now haha -

If there is one thing the pre-alpha code of KZ4 has unambiguously matched, it's the particle effects. They look gorgeous. Also, the lighting (emissive dynamic light sources) are just as good if not better. In terms of poly count and animation, however, the CG is still ahead.

And Killzone 2 ended up looking way better than that. This just gets me even more excited.

Artistically, absolutely. But in terms of tech, pre-rendered CG is not comparable to real time rendering.

I think poly count will be higher in the CG but the scale and aesthetic of the city is much better in the KZ4, it looks fantastic.

The difference is that the KSF team has ~8 months 'till launch whereas there was a ~2 year gap between E3 2005 and the release of K2. The game looks more than fantastic right now anyways.

Any word if they're bringing back the heavier feel from KZ2 to the controls or are they going to continue chasing that CoD crowd?

I'm not sure if anyone can actually discern this from the gameplay videos released, but I feel it's a pretty important facet of what made KZ2 so much fun.

I also heard that the main MP dude from KZ2 has returned. True?

Based on the gameplay segments in this video it does not appear that they are. It seems more Crysis than KZ2.

The multiplayer lead from KZ2 is indeed back, he was gone during KZ3.

And I agree I hope the heavier controls from KZ2 are back, it works much better for the slower pace and hip firing close in-your-face combat that Killzone is, the KZ3's control pushed it more towards the twitchy ADS at a distance feel. Just my opinion.

Finally got around to seeing the new vid (at low res). The first 30 seconds or so when the main character is still on the aircraft are paying homage to the original CGI Killzone 2 trailer. And you know what... the CGI trailer looks like crap compared to Shadow Fall real time!

Also, once the action start I'm getting a Halo 2 reveal video vibe. This Halo 2 reveal to be more specific. Which is a good thing in my opinion.

The gunplay looks great if you ask me. I'm not sure what other people are expecting when they say it looks boring or generic. The action being looks to have a good pace and new mechanics.

I'll give the 1080p video a whirl on my 50" Panny plasma later today when I get home.

How did you like the intro soundtrack (which lasted up to him dropping off that airship and being led away)?

What I'd like is easy to aim, low recoil weapons for the Vektans, but lower power compared to heavy, slower to aim, louder, tracer rounds and smoke spewing Helghast guns that you can pick up that have high recoil, but fast RoF or damage, making the game feel like either a fast paced shooter for people who want to run and gun, or a more awesome, but slower and more difficult "weighty" shooter.

I'll be honest... I didn't even notice the soundtrack! I was completely engrossed into the action and the visuals that I completely forgot about the audio!

the game looked pretty awesome. But I'm a little skeptical...remember when they showed us KZ2 demo back in the day, and everyone found out it was all pre rendered? Besides, the demo they showed us the other day was being run on a pc as they did not show us an actual ps4...Ubisoft already confirmed their "Watch Dogs" demo was the pc version. I would not be surprised if the game is a seriously tuned down version when it hits shelves.

Just realized with this being a launch title they might have better luck in mindshare this time around. Heaven forbid maybe even sell more units?

Link to YouTube video showing actual gameplay footage (with someone actually controlling the action on camera) that matches the nice pretty video we saw at the reveal.

Also... looking around here and at other forums... I must be an odd person. I like KZ and Halo and a bunch of other action games!

KZ2 mutliplayer was GOD status. I hope they go back to that instead of the lackluster online component of KZ3.

Not to mention that this is a (seems like day 1) launch title & it was dev'd on gimped hardware supposedly.

I'm so happy to see this being echoed so much lately. I hope Tempy is listening and telling the other GG devs.

Also, i just occurred to me that entire Shadow Fall demo was seamless... no load screen, no pause from cinematic to gameplay. You fly through this awesome star wars like city, see a shimmering glass wrapped tower in the distance, land next to the tower with a giant waterfall beside you, and then start shooting the hell out of everything inside the tower you flew up to, then you jump over the edge, grab a rope, and fly through the city/traffic... talk about immersive gameplay!

Something else from KZ2 multiplayer that was really good that wasn't present in KZ3 was the health system. It was a really nice combination of the classic health bar and the modern regeneration. I believe it was something like once you're out of combat it only regenerates to 75% of where it was. Would love it if that in in KZSF multiplayer. Yeah the demo was straight up standard regen but so was KZ2's singleplayer.

Another good thing that was in KZ2's singleplayer but wasn't in KZ3's.

Naughty Dog has been doing that for a while on the PS3 so I think that really comes down to how the engine is built and not necessarily the system it's on.
