Pretty nice episode with the Ba Jio backstory, it was emotional. Cheng Jiao needs more screen time great personality, and Ba Jio was epic.

The wolf children will officialy be released tomorrow in french theaters. I kinda want to watch it again but since it's only airing in 34 theaters I have to pass and wait for the BD release. Hope it gets good reviews though!

One Piece 1

Liked the couple movies I saw and that left me wondering if I could enjoy this in spite of Luffy. I think it was Uchip that described this as a low budget affair and boy he wasn't kidding. I didn't care for the score either and thought it worked against scenes more than it supported them.

Might stick with this, might not. Slow going here and there if I do as I don't think I can handle large doses of Luffy without the rest of his crew around to balance things.

One Piece 2

I guess one danger of adhering to manga character designs is stuff like Helmeppo looking terrible here.

I know I sound like a broken record at this point, but it's best not to judge the series based on the first few episodes.

Of course that doesn't mean you should torture yourself either if you REALLY don't like Luffy. It might also be a bit jarring to see it take 30 episodes to introduce most of the main cast when you've grown accustomed to 1 and 2 cour shows.

Here's what I posted in the OP thread when someone asked if they should start it:

Keep in mind, not everyone is super receptive to the show at the start. Here's what I say a normal reaction is like:

Episode 1-10: "Well this show is kind of fun, but not really something I'd want to watch 500 episodes of."
Episode 11-20: "Getting better, but it still seems kind of average. At least not all of the villains are goofy."
Episode 20-30: "Damn, seems like there's more to this world than the earlier episodes lead on."
Episode 30-40ish: "Whoa, that was awesome!"
Episode 126: "THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER!"

So yeah, if you at least partially like it within the first few episodes, you should be good even if you don't love it until the 40s.

So whatever you want to do.

It's like the internet inside the internet!
Yami focused parts are getting really repetitive. Yami is in trouble, says she doesn't need help, gets help from others, questions why anyone would help her, Rito accidentally see's her panties/naked, Yami proceeds to beat the shit out of him. That's how they all go. At least Mikado is there to make up for them.
So Kyouko is a real person and she does in fact have the ability to shoot fire? I always assumed it was supposed to be a cartoon show they watch. But I suppose you can never tell in a cartoon if what they're watching on tv is supposed to be live action to them or not.
And then some nonsensical boob groping fun.

But then the Skypiea arc happened, and I was turned away from the show. :-(

that's a Konosuke Uda thing, the series director, he loves using story book/dream like fade backgrounds on certain scenes, didn't make sense in that shot imo but didn't add or takeaway anything, later it's used during touching flashback moments with part of background being draw in a different style which makes it look really good.

As the series goes on it gets several budget increases, even right now it should be no problem for you, you did make it through sailor moon by comparison this is very high budget.

staff is pretty good early episodes have line up of big name animation directors back to back, like Kazuya Hisada,Eisaku Inoue and many others.

Personally I thought the first ep was ok but changed too much from the manga it starts at ch2 I think they did it in favor of having action in the first ep.

But then the Skypiea arc happened, and I was turned away from the show. :-(

don't talk shit about the masterpiece that is skypiea.

What a neat show. Even the tangents that hampered the overall flow of the narrative were still fun on their own merits. Going into it with skewed expectations from animeGAF made this much more enjoyable, I think.

This is probably more reflective of my limited experience with anime than anything else, but I really appreciated how satisfying this season ending was. I find it much more preferable to the cliffhanger method.

Saint Seiya Omega 21

Omg, the old saint in this episode was awesome. Can he come back (and at least reveal his name), definitely my favorite of the older ones so far, and that attack, so stunning.

Sonya is pretty awful now, but Eden, well that was emotional, I really hope he can fulfill Aria's wish and find some joy or happiness in his life, terrible that kindness is frowned upon in his family :(

They turn it into a cliffhanger with how they kick the second season off.

Skypeia is the actually the worst arc and pretty skippable. I really dont know what Oda was doing and why the animators dragged it out so much. By the time it gets good its like already the final boss time. Its hard to care much for the enemies and protagonists during the arc or even their motivations.

Well, if they already produced the content, can they get someone else to pay them for it?

Not if it's not original content. Like if it were.... the Mass Effect movie! (lol) I hope we find out what it is today!

Isn't MacrossF almost entirely new footage and hugely divergent in terms of plot, though? The second movie in particular is pretty significantly different from the TV version.

Actually, there's some weirdness going on with the Tiger & Bunny movies as well, given that Sunrise are also releasing another pair of direct to DVD/BD recap movies that are completely separate entities to the theatrical releases.

Yeah Sunrise claims that the T&B movies will be mostly original footage, but I'll believe it when I see it!

So Funimation was theoretically funding this by themselves? Did they think a Mass Effect anime would be that profitable?

Probably not entirely by themselves. They have a Japanese production partner in T.O. Entertainment which is supposedly handling the Japanese side of things for them. That could also be where the screw up happened too. This is all hypothetical, but the theory sounds really compelling doesn't it! You know you want this to be true!

Everyone has their "We know better than Japan" moments. IIRC, the only one that's ever panned out at all was Big O S2.

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust was co-produced in America, wasn't it? I don't know how successful that was. Isn't Afro Samurai also an American production?

There are tons of successful "co-productions" though, which means Americans giving the Japanese money to do what the Japanese actually want to do. There are far, far fewer actual success stories for Americans throwing money at the Japanese and going "make this for us".

Animatrix is probably the most successful initiative of this sort to date. Most other stuff basically ended up with mediocre or below average critical and commercial reception.

Does One Piece ever bounce back to Alabasta greatness after the Skypeia arc? If so, what episodes should I start on? I am not really interested to go through any of the filler arc post-Skypeia.

Not sure, I think I'd prefer an EA scandal if I'm honest.
That should be significantly more entertaining.

EA will be caught in the scandal either way if it happens though. So you'll get the lolz even if they're not the primary offender in the scenario. They stil collaborated on the project, provided a writer and supervisors on it, put their names as co-producers, etc. Think of the possibilities! Everyone could burn!

Episode 225 and up until the five episodes of recap = best part of the One Piece anime.

Cosmic: No, I still don't agree.

It does and then some. The big arc after Skypiea is arguably the best arc in the series. I think it's like 224 or something.

Awww. I think Skypiea is great. The arc has such a grand feeling, and it does so much for the world building. I can get why some people don't like it (a lot of focus on side characters and little connection to the central plotline), but I just find Skypiea a joyous experience.

It's also EA's IP so I guess they aren't really able to stay out of this mess either way. Though I was hoping direct involvement akin to EA changing their mind midway deciding the results were not up to their standards and refusing to pay while Funi pushed the production on. Perhaps I'm over-ambitious.
Btw it should be tomorrow in Japan now so shouldn't we have had news from the board meeting?

Helmepoo is spot on, his is a stupid disappointment of a son of axe hand morgan his father the marine captain, does nothing but live off his father statues and money, his weak and smug cause no one can touch him cause of who his father is.

how do you draw that

-give him a rich guy buttchin
-a smug face
-one of those expensive bad hair cut
-an expensive tacky coloured suit

there you have helmepoo

that's a big contrast from his father, who would want to mess with you when your father has an axe for a hand.

The annual shareholders meeting for IG Port should start in a little over 4 hours. We probably won't hear anything until 2-3 hours after that at least though.

the french are better at it because of past history. Funi are just asshats, tellin EA and Bioware they knew animay better than they did, then get those two asshats from bioware to say we know animay just as much as Funi... and the result is that crap that doesnt even succeed as five min short. Those bastards are just Saban fans who got lucky and screwed over other dudes with way better artistic minds.

Oh OK, I didn't know exact times so I assumed we should have known already. Probably a silly thing to think since if we did I'm sure you'd have posted about it already! (also messed up dates etc, damn timezones!)

have you ever heard of anime named Esceflone?(sp)

christ you think what 4kids did on one piece was bad....
For a man who seems obsessed with 80s-90s animation you sure do betray a lack of knowledge about it.

Where is your anger toward DiC?
