The first Halo game was popular mostly because of its multiplayer PVP, LAN parties, split screen 4 player battles with friends passing the controller to others in the room when defeated. That is where the popular Red Vs Blue phenomenon came out off. This gaslight that "the series roots" were because of its single player campaign is revisionist history. The split screen Coop campaign was popular but you cant omit the couch/LAN party multiplayer craze. Combat Evolved is an inferior product to the originals art style and gameplay. Its soulless and trash and frankly its what you purple haired nose ring freaks deserve.

Ok this might even make the entire situation worse now that I've given it a proper watch.
At one point, during the prologue missions, the Convenant literally stand in a line and their leader (a Prophet) introduces the races to Masterchief as if they're in some toy commercial.
The prologue which are, by the way, completely nonsensical from a story point of view or design perspective as it literally throws all the enemy and weapon types at you without proper introduction and also paints the Convenant as cartoon villains by making their motives paper thin rather than religious fervour. Bizarre.

Yeah Halo CE was par for the course, there wasn't Live yet so it banked on offline PvP.
Campaign Evolved basically offers nothing of the sort. You'd expect a 2026 remake to have some form of MP.

Yes with each new release after Reach they've gotten progressively worse in that respect.
However the original game(s) had a ton more backstory and motivation for their opposition towards humanity instead of just "we must kill dey humans, dis is hunting ground". With Campaign Evolved they're seemingly reduced to cartoon villains who's only purpose is to "do eee-EEevil!".

Even Skill-Up (a guy who has become part of the access media) does not recommend this... Goes so far as to say that the only actual new content, in the form of the prequel missions, is truly awful.
Otherwise pretty much echoes what everyone else has noticed what with the worse art direction, poor sound design (especially the mix of the music or absence of it entirely), ruined weapon balance, removal of health kits, bad driving physics, newly added cutscene dialogue being a mess and the overal cutscene direction just not being up to snuff.

Skill Up is a clown with consistently terrible takes. This is the same guy who thinks God of War Ragnarök is a 10/10 masterpiece. I'd rate that game only slightly higher than BIG Rigs.
The prequel missions are weak. The cutscenes are weak. The dialogue is weak. There are still bugs that need polishing, and I've been very vocal about all of that. I'm not excusing those issues.
What I don't agree with is YouTube outrage merchants acting like this is some catastrophic failure that everyone should avoid.
Stick to the main campaign, enable the Remix Skulls, crank the volume up, and you'll experience some of the best Halo gameplay we've had in years.
I'm genuinely devastated that we probably won't get Halo 2 and Halo 3 remakes because of the constant clickbait and manufactured outrage surrounding this release.
The art direction is every bit as good as the original, and in many areas it's even better. The music and sound effects are perfectly fine on my Q800F soundbar, despite all the claims to the contrary. The weapon balancing is also being blown way out of proportion.
The driving physics are completely fixed once you switch back to the original control scheme.
The AI is fantastic. The visuals are fantastic. The gunplay is fantastic. At its core, it plays exceptionally well, and that's what matters most.

By the way, it's completely fine to like Campaign Evolved. Me and others aren't here to shit on those who enjoy the game. At least, speaking for myself, that is not my intention. What I do have issue with though is the "gassing up a mid" or "no criticisms allowed" sentiment that is being thrown around lately.
I've enjoyed my fair share of mid-games myself (dare I say, slop) in the form of stuff like Battleborn or Battlefield 2042, Suicide Squad, etc but I wouldn't go out of my way to deflect genuine criticisms of those titles by going "durrr but that's just a youtuber durrr you have no own opinion durrr". Am I supposed to reject my own eyes and ears by all the gameplay that I've seen or the side-by-sides?
I'm not touching this one with a barge pole and it seems like many others are in agreement looking at the Steam numbers...

Too many videos like this are posted on here all the time and it's someone whining about a bunch of nonsense. Most of the time it's full of reaching and grasping at straws, but somehow it's enough for people to sit through it (some how) and leave thinking they know something everyone else doesn't.
I'm not a big Halo fan so I never cared in the first place, but from what I gathered, yup, it's Halo. With some changes to make it work for a more modern audience. But a lot of the key elements and moments are there apparently.

I had also organised a 4 player co op today with a bunch of friends. Was going to be awesome and was so fucking looking forward to it. They all cancelled and no longer getting the game.
