So I've only experienced up to Junon so far but I still think this might have the best towns in a RPG or open world game ever!

If not which game has better towns!? I want to play them!
For me its the art direction and amount of NPCs. The towns not only look wonderful but also feel very alive. Just filled with minor details that come together.

I actually envy those who play at 30 FPS and can't see - or more importantly - *feel* the difference, it's night and day, Performance Mode forever and always, period.

Currently doing all the side objectives in the Costa Del Sol region, don't know how some are near the end of the game already, I'm savouring every moment and doing every single thing in each region before progressing the story, it's all so gooooood. I will say I prefer Junon's open area to this one but it's great nonetheless, was hoping for new Chocobo abilities but alas, maybe in the next region.

What's most fascinating is just how much I forgot about the game combined with all the new stuff and not always being entirely sure which is which lol. I was tempted to replay OG FF VII but intentionally didn't precisely because I wanted a lot of it to feel like a surprise but I *definitely* want to go back to it once I'm done with Rebirth to contrast and compare.

Yeah I went in hyped out of my mind lol and it's somehow exceeded my ridiculous expectations. I think this is going to be the most engrossing game world I've ever experienced and I've played a shit ton of JRPGs and games in general for the past 20+ years since I was a younglin.

I went in hyped as well, but knowing that this is Square Enix we're talking about and knowing about the many problems of the first game, I went in ready to have some problems with pacing, story and side quests being unremarkable.

30 something hours later, there's not a single fucking sidequest that I thought was boring or that overstayed its welcome. The world is also a joy to explore. There is so much variety at all times that it becomes almost impossible to fall prey to the usual open world traps. And everything feels massive, the scale of everything is just off the charts.

This truly feels like Square Enix went all in for the first time in forever. They left nothing to chance. I'm truly blown away that they had it in them.

Update; 74 hours in. Game has reached game of the generation for me. If it lands the ending then it’s a 10 for me and I haven’t given a 10 to a game in over 15 years.

I'm on the same boat, I definitely wasn't expecting the game to be so f***ing good.

How the fuck you guys finish games so fast!? I'm still in Chapter 4.

I completed all the world intel, but there’s tons of side quests, VR battles, and mini games I haven’t completed. Ive just been no lifing the game since release. I return to work tomorrow, so I did want to finish the story before then.

I'm out-crunching the competition, one more to go, all in a bathing suit 👌

Edit: phew, clear, took about a dozen attempts.

Man I kinda had a bit of a false start with this last week, I thought all the systems and currencies and shit was a bit overwhelming, and the battle system wasn’t really clicking for me (didn’t in remake either), then I got sick over the weekend and didn’t play at all. But then gameplay loops finally clicked and I started binging, hit every intelligence detail spot and side mission in Chapter 2 and now I’m hooked. Just finished Chapter 3 this morning before work.

Finally figuring out the systems, learning Queens Blood strategies and dominating fools, and all that sweet FFVII nostalgia…man it’s amazingly well executed. Maybe a bit intimidating with all there is to do, but once it clicks…then add in a retelling of a story I’ve loved for a quarter century, plus the soundtrack, and forget anyone saying performance mode looks bad. It’s all so damn good. I want to take time off work to just soak it in that sweet Mako

Quality 30fps on my LG C9 OLED looks and play incredibly smooth and crisp with no judder. I have VRR off, the camera speed down to 2, screen shake off and have spent time calibrating the settings.
Why vrr off ? It doesn’t work anyway at 30

If course everyone can feel the difference. But it takes one evening to get used to it. You disrupt the process by switching to 60fps to compare :p

So many good impressions. My finger hovers on top of "Buy now" but I'm still resisting as I have tons of stuff I'm playing. I guess I'll wait a little while longer for the perdormance patch to see if it does anything.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

Do like I did - put everything else aside and play this game. Your other games will still be there when you're done.

Just go for it man, it's most probably way better than whatever you are playing right now and the further you wait, the higher the chances the story and the infinite surprises the games offers get spoiled for you

So synergy skills increase your relationship level with your characters. So say hypothetically I do a synergy skill with Cloud and Aerith and then do one with Aerith that has Cloud. Does that increase it twice? Meaning does each individual synergy skill Cloud has with another character (Regardless of whose skill it is) increase your relationship?

Yeah it doesn't work for 30fps but I saw some saying turning it up made the game smoother as perhaps it was interfering with things. After turning it off I felt the game looked smoother at 30fps. But this may be placebo lol. Maybe some of you could get it a try.

Fuck fort condor. I just wasted 1 hour at the 3rd photorelic shit in junon, this is the last thing to do for 100% map completion, but im over it. Its so annoying. Almost had it like 3 times, just needed like 5 more sec...

The annoying part is the last fight the guy casts stop so your units can’t move while time is running out, it can be super frustrating.

lmao so the 4th one is even more annoying. Thanks, you just saved me a headache. Never gonna try the 3rd one ever again

How I beat it

Pick a build that has trebuchets and those mounted arrow things. Pump out units near there to protect them - if you can get them on the field early enough in the round, they'll spend the whole match just zapping HP from the boss. Your ground units then don't need to get close to the guy and can just mop up the adds. He still casts stop when nobody is around lol

Not to mention he changes his weapon class during the match, and there’s a timer so you lose the match even if you manage to beat up on him near the end

I finally beat him but said “nope” to hard mode

This mini game sucks

I did eventually beat him but still it was god damn frustrating as hell.

I tried turning VRR off in the PS5 but I couldn't tell a difference on my CX.

Crossed the 20 hour mark last night and finally made it to upper Junon. The entire area looks incredible.

Dont bother playing defense. Put all your dudes on one side and let the enemies through to your eagles on the other side. Your eagles have enough damage on normal mode. might be different on hard mode.

I used a mix of Armor dudes and Archers and it worked for all four battles. you still need luck to go your way, but if you can get level 3 archers and level three armorers, you can tank hits with just one medic until barret and cloud show up then you can spam the low level vanguard melee fighters to finish them off.

the 4th fight is tough because he can freeze your team for quite some time. but just spawn some archers outside of that spell zone and you should be fine.

TLDR: Dont play defense.

FF7 2020 Hd Remake Part 1 reminds me you can hurt some people in the waiting process (Final Fantasy hardcore fanboys) but overall get a pass for providing something old, fresh again. The first part was a powerhouse of a game I just hated it’s a linear world and I cannnot wait to play part 2, and 3 whenever I get to them.

I finally beat it by doing defense after trying other strategies lol

Defense allowed me to spam tons of low cost recruits and clerics

I powered through it some how, just gotta keep mixing it up until you arrive at a sorta semi winning strategy, then play with troop deployments/waves, one method that seemed to work for me was to line a bunch of ballista's and trebuchets on the right side to impede they enemy's advancement, and send everything I could up the left side backed up by Clerics and try to save my hero deployment for if they made it to my condor, or if I made it to theirs. Once I move my line up, I start setting up trebuchets as fast as I can to lay siege to the boss/condor.

Finished the game. If you're curious, here's my completely non-spoilery reaction to the ending:

It's loud, obnoxious, incomprehensible, and overly long. The phrase "Going full retard" doesn't even begin to scratch the surface. If you thought Remake's ending was insane, I promise you haven't seen shit yet. And btw, I'm someone who liked Remake's ending. It definitely took the wind out of what was a 10/10 experience for me throughout the whole game. That said I still loved the game and very much looking forward to Part 3.

but I'm really really
worried that everything is building up to going completely off rails... The game has been so amazing so far but I know they can't stand to not ruin it.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
I'm on the same boat, I definitely wasn't expecting the game to be so f***ing good.

Rebirth is perfect example of what good sequel should do.

Lemme put it this way...

I went into the game knowing full well the ending would be batshit, but it still took me by surprise. I'll just say this, enjoy the journey and have fun with it. Because there is nothing you can do to prepare yourself for how badly they fucked up the ending. I've been reading reactions from other players who've finished the game, there's literally not one person I've seen who liked the ending.

My only consolation is that the original's ending was never that good for me to begin with. So, small loss. What I mostly care about is seeing a lot of great moments in this journey with those amazing characters.

I didn’t know finishing game fast has to do with “skill”.
You asked how people are steamrolling through the game so I told you. I'd imagine you would get much farther in a shorter amount of time if you posted less and played more. Has nothing to do with finishing a game fast. I usually take my time and finish games in half the time they say it will take. Remake only took me 25 hours. 3 hours for Intermission and 8 hours for sidequests. So almost 40 hours of play. So 4 days.

I wager Rebirth will probably only take me 50-60. So like a week. Could do it in 4 days if I dedicate 15 hours a day most likely.

This is a large reason why I marked it so low in my review. Really soured the experience for me.

How are you expecting me play this game at work? I can post in GAF on mobile phone but I have to get to home before I can play this game and maybe I get 3-5 hours play time.
