Xbox business Showcase Announced for February 15

I had higher hopes for Xbox's future until they broke this news. You know bullshit in the future stuff but if its audio then there is fuck all. Xbox bought a video editing studio to make better produced shows and videos... and they are releasing on audio format.

Can we all agree that Donald Mattrick III is not the worst Xbox boss. Even he wouldn't be that out of touch.

You're in for a rude awakening if you truly believe anything you just wrote.
Hint : a simple tweet would have been enough to "refute bogus rumors".

I keep being told that no one believes major negatives are coming to Xbox, yet i keep seeing people on here post them.

Which is it?

And nah.

Maybe they just wanted to take advantage of the situation to reinforce their plans to the public.

There has been no "damage" done here imo, it's all speculation that can quickly be wiped away in minutes in a podcast.

Come on Xbox fans, even you have to admit that this is a garbage way of handling this. And it just shows you that it's just a bunch of PR and they are just out to get you any way they can. The announced last week that something's coming this week only to reannounce that it's going to be in a podcast. Cheap and reminiscent of the way they run their business. It's being harsh because it's worthy of being so. They don't want you to look at their faces. And maybe it will be a video podcast but nonetheless this is a very carefully crafted PR move which they seem to really thrive on unlike making good games consistently. Unless you count acquisition of studios as part of their hard work and building their portfolio.

Y'all are overreacting as always. This is their podcast format:

It is a full on show with videos and such. This has been their platform to talking directly to their fans, so they are doing it there. Makes sense when you consider all of the production tools are there and ready to go. Also, it looks like it is going to let more people know about this show, because going by the knee-jerk response here, many people don't know about it.

Y'all are ridiculous. They have said when/where they are going to give the update and now that is not good enough.

You serious with this comment? All the fanboys expected a big announcement some even claimed Satya would take the stage 😅 you all been played 😂 A podcast 😆
you mean a celebration, big party to announce Xbox has being shit and now they need to pivot?

A podcast/interview (maybe doritos pope) is better than a blog post

I am pretty sure they will stick to hardware for years. It is just important to have some hardware device of your own. They learnt that hard way (pun) with the whole Windows Phone situation. But I think starting the next generation the price will increase to be less of a loss leader.

Yeah, but increasing the hardware price on future devices to be profitable off the jump only makes sense if the value is there.

And that value...well...you already know, it can only be had by completely changing the business model. Preferably as one that synergizes with Windows and other device divisions better, taking all their strengths and shedding their respective weaknesses, streamlining everything.

But let's just say people like TimDog and Boomstick XL, or Hargeet Chani, would be very mad about that.

The medium says a lot about the message. If this was for a mainstream audience they wouldn’t use a podcast, this is intended for core gamers. I guess in their terms they’re aiming to reassure “the fans” (aka the loonies like Timdog) who might be upset about games going to other platforms. It also means the message is going to be a bit less dramatic than some people seem to think it’s going to be.

That doesn't make any sense. If it were true, why not just do the Developer Directs and Showcases as podcasts? Those are also heavily targeted at core gamers, and we see that content on places like IGN and Youtube before & after anyway.

My take is, if it's an audio-only podcast or a scripted video podcast, they want to mitigate spread of whatever news is delivered as much as possible from the onset. Less people will watch a podcast vs. an upfront Direct, Showcase or similar type of presentation, meaning less eyes initially to pick up on certain details and spread them out. This actually feels more like how they would handle an investors call with shareholders, if done for a public audience.

You don't think they give their shareholders fluff information do you?

So, they dont say anything they are assholes, talk about the future of Xbox in a video 'podcast' they are still assholes? Bit unfair

All I question is the timing, it could have been a one and done a week ago.
It's a cheap cobbled together piece typical of their PR.

They're good at saying a whole lot of nothing.

I can't wait for this hype event!

I think the word podcast is misused a lot these days.

But hey, this is all unprecedented, it won't surprise me if it's just audio only... one thing for certain though, nothing good is coming from this. This is not how they announce a new acquisition, a new console coming in 2026, or Xbox exclusives remaining exclusive as some would have hoped.

Saw funny comment on Era

Phil: "PSsux69 thanks for the $2, 'Phil don't you dare give them ponies our games we've held the line all these years and now you're going to betray us all we already lost Timdog'"

Yeah, but increasing the hardware price on future devices to be profitable off the jump only makes sense if the value is there.
Just like overpriced Surfaces it will be just there as a piece of hardware. Hardware prices are going up anyway.

That doesn't make any sense. If it were true, why not just do the Developer Directs and Showcases as podcasts? Those are also heavily targeted at core gamers, and we see that content on places like IGN and Youtube before & after anyway.
Showcases and Developer Directs take too much time to prepare and too much can leak.

"Yes let's let rumored changes that could make some of our most diehard warriors lose sleep at night when next to their wives in bed, run rampant for over a week just to use it as promotion for changes that are just more of the same we were already doing prior. Gottim!!"

No...don't be that guy. Just don't 🤣

That would be a reasonable format and I hope it's like that but I hope it's not just really an audio podcast and again, pre-rehearsed and probably together PR stunt.
The last developer direct they did was shot on location at studios around the world, US, Europe, Japan. That was the podcast crew doing it. It had pretty high production values.
I noticed that. That doesn't mean that they don't put money behind their shows but they certainly have a lot of PR that is cobbled together which is my statement and its point. Just like you come up and potentially are making a podcast or whatever this is going to be, that is basically reminding us about something we didn't really care about until they do the right things and put out the right games. They are not winning the battle of the games hence why they have to do this PR posturing and whatever this dog and pony show is going to be.

I hope it isn't as bad as it seems like because they're running their business into the ground and the only thing keeping them afloat is all that money that isn't coming from the gaming sector.

If that is the case though then why take a week over it?

No smoke without fire I say, now how much fire is the question (and how much will everyone be told in this podcast)
It takes a week because someone has to write the carefully-worded script which is then reviewed and approved by top execs, the legal department, the PR department, the marketing department, etc. who all throw in their suggestions for revisions. Then the prep work and rehearsal begins.

That all takes 2 days and then it takes Phil 5 days to decorate his shelves and pick out a t-shirt.

I wonder if it is a podcast because they were caught off guard with the rumors and didn't have enough time to put together a properly edited video presentation?
It's a podcast because it's better than having "available on Playstation" plastered all over the screen.

Phil "Now Greenie, make sure you upload the edited podcast and not the unedited one where we laugh at people who were conned into buying a console we are dropping. For the love of God Aaron, don't fuck this up."

On the other hand, this format makes it less of a big deal if they do decide to bring big titles to Playstation, while not putting an end to Xbox.

It lessens the impact. PR 101
