It's great, but this was the launch version on consoles, so it's no wonder it got a bad rep:
Because some youtuber told him soFor those of us that haven’t bought or played it yet Can you please share why it is fundamentally flawed
Sounds like I might love it. It's too bad that the main attraction - the aesthetic and vibe of Cyberpunk is actually not to my taste. Still might try it. I miss a little edge and darker storytelling.Got the plat last month. Loved every minute of it. It’s going to have that launch day stink on it forever, and maybe even for good reason. I loved the world, the story, the side missions were usually as substantial as a “real” one, the voice acting was great, the animations felt extremely natural And hand crafted instead of stiff as hell like we’ve come to expect in this type of game - and on and on.
they are going to release the ray tracing overdrive update but cant be bothered to fix that shitYes, but let's not mention cars at higher distance
It's one of my all-time favourite games, I have 118 hours on PC, plus 50 and counting on PS5.
AssCreed map, leveling system is unbalanced, worst case of ludonarrative dissonance in modern gaming. They want you to explore the world but at the same time the plot puts you on the clock and remind you of it constantly. For those of us that haven’t bought or played it yet Can you please share why it is fundamentally flawed

Not much different than The Witcher 3. Some unbalanced RPG systems, extremely hard at the beginning, becomes very easy as you level up. Still far better than TW3 combat and RPG systems tho.For those of us that haven’t bought or played it yet Can you please share why it is fundamentally flawed
Some of the NCPD link together too - or provide some more back story to biggest quests. Not much different than The Witcher 3. Some unbalanced RPG systems, extremely hard at the beginning, becomes very easy as you level up. Still far better than TW3 combat and RPG systems tho.
Its not as "fundamentaly flawed" as some try to make it out to be, it can be improved but its honestly way better than other stuff i've seen in other games.
>Quest design is many levels above the horrendous ones in 3D GTA games (and RDR2), but just ok among RPGs in general.
>Better shooting/combat than almost any and all FPS RPG games, but below FPS and action focused games.
>Open world design is your typical ubisoft title with tons of quest markers, but unlike ubisoft they do go out of their way to make quests and gigs unique and interesting on their own, with their own stories and unique moments. Even NCPD hustlers, which are the most mundane of activities (basically hot spots with enemies that you must clear out) have their own story and context if you stop to read the files you find and look for enviromental clues.
Dude the plot is in direct conflict with the game. No other game will rush you even in side quest because your character is running out of time plot wise when in reality your character is enjoying his sweet as time and getting actually stronger by leveling all the your parts instead of following the plot logic. Further discussion will go into spoilers but anyone who played the game understand.Dumb reasoning. You have an unknown amount of time before bad shit happens, what would you do? Cry in a corner? Ofc you're going to do what V always wanted to do, and that is become the biggest hotshit in Nightcity. The main plot never rushes you into anything. It just tells you that you dont have much time. Same logic can be applied to a TON of games that you loved. Lets take Mass Effect for example. The galaxy is in huge immediate danger but Shepard has time to fuck every companion he meets, spend time in bars, and whatever else.

I agree that the developers failed to fully capitalize on the premise of the game. I think I wrote about this exact idea in a different thread before, but the addition of a fail state or a ticking clock element would have greatly enhanced the story's depth and significance. Consider, for example, the possibility that taking one's time to resolve the main quest would eventually result in the player being subsumed by Johnny Silverhand, thus compelling you to continue playing as him in the endgame scenario (kinda like what was previously done in Red Dead Redemption 2). This idea is already well-supported by the game's mechanics and groundwork, as evidenced by the player's ability to assume the role of Silverhand during flashback sequences. The incorporation of a multiple-ending scenario would have been an obvious way to capitalize on a role-playing framework too.Dude the plot is in direct conflict with the game. What other example of a game with the character moaning every time he wakes up as he might die any fucking minute and the same time you go clear the fucking Assassin Creed map with every icon imaginable. Oh it is a game??? Excuse me i’m not the one who is writing a serious story. It is the fucking dev you that you are defending with your “dumb” reply. No one understands your dumb point. Its a game. Its not a real life urgent time passing. It never says HOW much time you have nor does the game throw in your face that you have limited time besides some small key dialogue moments in the main story. Also, doing everything on the map, for V it could take a few days or a week, hardly "taking his time". Funny how you ignored my other game example and many other games with similar plot points. Again, its a fucking GAME. You wanted an actual clock ticking rushing you?
Ticking clock mechanics are almost never a good ideaConsider, for example, the possibility that taking one's time to resolve the main quest would eventually result in the player being subsumed by Johnny Silverhand, thus compelling you to continue playing as him in the endgame scenario
I agree. It would have been better to do it this way. I mean they could’ve handled it millions of ways. Didn’t Far Cry 4 have an ending in the 15 minute of the game that actually works with the plot brilliantly? Bioshock Infinite with the death and respawn actually making sense in the context of the story?I agree that the developers failed to fully capitalize on the premise of the game. I didn't mean it as a literal clock on the screen, ticking away and putting pressure on the player.Ticking clock mechanics are almost never a good idea
Absolutely.I didn't mean it as a literal clock on the screen, ticking away and putting pressure on the player.
It would be more of a stealth mechanic (as in, working in the background) and you could even incorporate some sort of morality system into it. For example, being more rebellious and aggressive would get you closer to being taken over by Silverhand, while more stealthy and subtle approach would keep you going as V longer. Those pills that Misty gives you could also be factored into it somehow - pop one to speed up the process, pop the other to slow it down. Maybe have some missions where you need to restock on pills, a'la Far Cry 2, only less tedious? Idk, just throwing ideas out there...
Bottom line, just imagine how giving into Silverhand's influence would have severe impact on how specific story quests, and make it possible for them to play out in a completely different way and lead to completely different outcomes and endings. Now THAT would be a fucking great role-playing game that would get me excited.
This is the kind of thing sounds great on paper but doesn't work as intended. It doesn't matter if the clock was hidden or adjustable by your actions, players would figure it out either way and feel pressured in the end.I didn't mean it as a literal clock on the screen, ticking away and putting pressure on the player.

I don't see you coming up with any better ideas. Only complaining and nay-saying.This is the kind of thing sounds great on paper but doesn't work as intended. And silverhand taking over Vs body early would just kill the entire plot. I know people always think having these vastly different branches are good but truth is this sort of approach just turn stories uninteresting and directionless majority of the time. Even famous hardcore RPGs have one-direction plots that mostly end up in the same place.
There's no better idea. What they did was the best approach they could've done with the plot they were working with, at least regarding this specific aspect.I don't see you coming up with any better ideas. Only complaining and nay-saying.

The alternatives were either implement annoying mechanics that would bother players more than 'immerse' them a la Far Cry 2, or come up with a different plot.

Yeah, this bugs the hell out of me, all the screenshots posted and all the videos showing only the pretty side of things, but this is so jarring and you constantly see it.they are going to release the ray tracing overdrive update but cant be bothered to fix that shit
the RED engine is old and limited , and i agree that they should try to hide stuff like that (like in GTA5)Yeah, this bugs the hell out of me, all the screenshots posted and all the videos showing only the pretty side of things, but this is so jarring and you constantly see it.
I'm bad at tech stuff, is it really possible that this can't be fixed or there isn't any method to hide it better?
