I think most here saw it as a bad joke at release. It was unplayable on the old consoles and very buggy on the others. The mood was very negative. I would be interested to know what the current mood is towards this game after almost 3 years. I played through it 2 times. I'm still not sure if it's a good game though. 50% of the game I like the other 50% I don't.

I like the setting a lot, but overall I was disappointed. Witcher 3 is one of my top games ever. It has its little problems, but they never bothered me that much. How do you see Cyberpunk 2077 today?

Edit: I must add that the German voice of the male actor was very bad and it takes you out of the game.

I really liked it, personally. There are some changes I would make BUT I'm looking forward to see what happens when the expansion is released. That's when I'll get back into the game. It is very good overall. If it didn't have so much hype before release, people would probably think higher of it, warts and all.

You shouldn't have to ask whether a game ended up good 3(2+, really) years after release

Got the plat last month. Loved every minute of it. It’s going to have that launch day stink on it forever, and maybe even for good reason. I loved the world, the story, the side missions were usually as substantial as a “real” one, the voice acting was great, the animations felt extremely natural And hand crafted instead of stiff as hell like we’ve come to expect in this type of game - and on and on.

But the game as it is right now is phenomenal, so it’s a shame. But they did it to themselves.

I loved and played the shit out of it, but I played it after a lot of patches on PC so my perspective is different from the launch players. My biggest issue might be that there is no new game plus.

It was a good game, I played it for the first time on PS5 and I enjoyed it. It would've been great if driving was not so bad. Also, I didn't care how the ending sequence dragged on and on and on.

I will replay when the expansion is out. If it's good.

I mocked it a lot at launch but after actually playing it:
Yes, it’s a really good game IMO. There are some issues, it’s by no means perfect, but overall a very solid game with a fascinating setting. It doesn’t really beat The Witcher 3 though.

It's a good game with an interesting and unique setting. However, the main story is not very well-realized and could have used another 5-10 hours worth of content to flesh out the experience. A definitive step-down from The Witcher 3 in most aspects.

Decent game. Its just a shame that the world is so dead. They took so long to make this game world only to forget to populate it with fun stuff.

Compared to the Witcher 3, its a massive letdown.

Its amazing with enough mods. Easily in my top 2.
Vanilla experience is pretty average though, just like witcher 3.

It’s fantastic. Great characters and writing. For the hardcore RPG fan that likes minimum 100 plus hours of content ( I am not that person) it may disappoint but I loved it.

It's fantastic. I wish they would release a faster clip of interesting episodic content for DLCs for more reasons to interact with the world. Really looking forward to the path-tracing update and Phantom Liberty.

I honestly have tried to play the game multiple times and I can never make it past more than 2 or 3 hours. It's just not what they advertised it to be in regards being a really in depth RPG.
During the first gameplay demonstration for the game back in 2018, CD Projekt RED made it seem like this would be one of most hardcore RPGs ever made with mundane character/dialogue choices affecting main/side quests significantly throughout the course of the experience. In reality, this is one of the most RPG-lite games I've ever played. Even Mass Effect which has always been described as a simple RPG experience had more impactful choices to be made and corresponding consequences.

It's a good game, I put 100 hours and finished it with all the side's I could find.
The tiny city streets are just a major design flaw and my biggest gripe.

I loved it, it's a great game. You will always hear people talk about police chases, bad ai traffic etc. when in reality it really doesn't matter in the slightest for core experience in this title, it only matters if you want to fuck around the city GTA style. This game is 9/10 (and it always was on pc).

It's with rank of no man's sky and sea of thieves.
Bad launch, but become good after devs invested their time fixing it.

It's a great game and those who mocked CD Projekt RED made fools of themselves.

Anyone who had any idea of who they are knew they'd come through.

I enjoyed it and played it fully on launch (PC).

It had a few bugs but it was still enjoyable.

I've been wanting to go back but I think I'll wait for the expansion.

We get a thread like this every couple of months.
Yeah, it's a great game. Very much in line with The Witcher as far as doing intriguing quests and having really interesting characters to meet and interact with in a very cool and detailed world.
The combat in my opinion is better implemented here than in TW3 as you can tailor your V to have very different playstyles.
But just like The Witcher 3, it's not for everyone and the initial launch has forever soured it for some people who will always view it in a negative light.

Tried to finish it 3 times, got pretty far on my second attempt. I'm going to try it again after the DLC drops and see if it holds my interest once CD Project are finally done with the game.

I enjoyed it playing it at the time, but looking back at it, it has many issues.

Writing: I would say the writing itself isn't that good, its serviceable but it tries too hard to be punk, the dialogue between characters doesnt feel natural at all, its very deliberate into punk language feels too artificial. Aside from the dialogue being unnatural, it also has less meaningful choices to pick than what i expected. The story itself is fine, its engaging enough to make me care and i had fun with the main campaign, but i felt it was very rushed.. the arc with Jackie was very rushed and we barely got to know him instead we get flashbacks and we are supposed to care for him as if he was our bro. Johnny was insufferable to me but thats probably his character trait, i thought he was annoying and too try hard to be a punk commenting on everything with fuck that and fuck this, comes off as a punk that is newbie and is trying too hard compared to true veteran punk which supposed to have learned more and matured more. lol I dont know maybe im being unfair but his character was mediocre, the performance of Keanu was mid as well. The rest of the characters are pretty good i suppose.
To cut short cause i dont want to review the game right now, but i think the worldbuilding was decent enough but among the weakest in the cyberpunk genre, it contains a lot of stereotypes and outdated ideas, the characters are the best part, the story is good, and the side quests are also good.

The gameplay is pretty simple you have shooting, driving, hacking and the rest of the stuff which falls into rpg mechanics, the shooting i would say is pretty good, the guns feel satisfying to use and their design and sound are excellent, the driving is awful, the hacking is very simple and relies on one minigame only. I wanted more indepth skill tree and rpg mechanics system, after all the possibilities here are insane but CDPR didnt deliver that and instead tried to copy a Witcher-like system into it, which doesnt work here contrary to their previous game, here its character creator system you can specialize into different builds yet it feels you can only truly go hacking or combat, the specialization itself is which weapons do you want to use and the skills you unlock are super lame, look for Dishonored and Prey on how to handle a skill tree system. The cyberware is a neat idea but could have expanded upon even further.
Overall i would say the gameplay is decent but leaves a lot to be desired, the combat in particular is halfway good, cause you have plenty of cool weapons to use, but the enemies are all basic and boring, you have humans (gangsters) and some robots and thats it, you have some bosses too but they are even worse than W3 main bosses which is baffling cause you had 8 years and even more budget to flesh them out, compared to W3 DLC bosses they are so bad too which is a shame. The only boss that stands out is Oda, Smasher is probably one of the most underwhelming bosses ever. Watching the anime and then fighting him in the game is laughable.

Level Design is pretty good, not on the level of immersive sim games but for an open world game it does have great scale and each gig has its own mini-level which has multiple paths and good layout so i think at this particular aspect they did well.

Art direction is fantastic, CDPR art team is very talented, the city looks good and the visuals between different districts are super well handled, same goes for the Soundtrack which is pretty good too.

I won't talk about bugs and performance as thats a whole different subject.

One thing i hated in the game was the constant calls, the how the gigs and side quests are handled, compared to W3 contracts it feels a downgrade, for example you are walking near a location you receive a call from a fixer and then you "READ" a message then you do the contract and how do you learn about the gig and its story? its through reading lame shards, those shards are so boring and have annoying voices that i stopped caring about their mini stories, compare that to W3 contract where it feels more natural and authentic as you are traveling the world doing a main story and then you stumble upon a village, read a notice board someone needs help you go there meet in person and you watch a cutscene that fleshes the premise of the mini-story and tells you about whats happening, in this way you feel more connected to the world and its characters surrounding you, this makes the quest more immersive.

Also the open world itself, it needed more content, its a futuristic city and should have more depth in its interactions and not just worldbuilding, unlike W3, here its not a medieval village where people tend to their chores and fight monsters, here its supposed to be peak consumerism so i expect many activities throughout the city to be available to the player, sadly there was nothing to do except go from a gig to another gig, and the only thing they added later was a minigame with roach. I guess im not the kind to gosh about minigames, i dont really care about them but i think there should have been more interactions and content in the city, whether its like Yakuza (i dont like this series) or Bethesda (lockpicking, messing around with different skills) or Rockstar (chores and basic minigames) kind of content would probably serve the world better, it didnt bother me that much personally as i said i dont really invest in minigames but i think in a game like Cyberpunk they add more value cause the main game itself is pretty lackluster when you think about it, so additions like that could have filled the void for many people.
For me personally? i dont think those minigames are needed, you know why? because i think the open world itself wasn't needed. lol.

Despite all those issues i had fun, if i had to rate the game i would rate it 3/5. It's a decent game but suffers from many issues a massive stepback from Witcher 3. CDPR hyped this game a lot, or perhaps they liked the hype and decided to capitalize on it and ride along, in the end it backfired on them, 2.5 years later and the game is kind of stable but the content is still the same, i played it on day 1, and after i finished it i never played again except when they added the apartments, i will come back for the expansion.

I was one of the few that was able to play it up to completion at launch, and enjoyed my time with it. Long after I looked back on my experience and felt it was "good", but nothing more, and nothing less. The environment and art are some of the coolest things about it, of course. But I practically forgot about my entire experience weeks later. Didn't really remember any "cool" moments or anything like that.

Of course, YMMV, especially depending on how you feel about the setting. I've always dug the whole cyberpunk-esque aesthetic after loving the Ghost in the Shell animated film as a teenager. So, I thought I'd dig this a lot more, and was kind of surprised I didn't.

I wish we could get a Shadowrun ARPG.

I liked it more than The Witcher 3.

It could be better in certain aspects but there aren't much games like it in the first place.

It's better on PC since there CDPR are aiming it to become the new Crysis with the Overdrive mode, but even then they've made it easy to install mods and the modding community have done a lot of smart and cool things with the game to expand on things, restore features, fix things before CDPR have, etc, it's more of a transformative game on PC which ironically fits the theme of the game of being able to custom who you are, on PC you can custom how you play.

I played it for the first time last year. I went in with no expectations. I think it’s a few things short of being an all-time great game. It was the most alive game city I’ve ever played. It felt like being in a real city to me. I wanted to explore everything. The combat with pretty good, the locations were gorgeous. I loved the atmosphere and style. It just needs to be injected with a little more content. More buildings and side areas to explore. More unique quests and tasks that take you to unique locations. And more awesome weapons and equipment. The clothing and stuff to deck out your character in it were all lame. Stuff like sunglasses and baseball caps. Give us armors and helmets and awesome stuff like that.

Adding that and building on what they have would make it even better. But they built an amazing foundation. I actually would prefer they build on Cyberpunk than make another Witcher game. This has so much potential.

Just like The Witcher, it's certainly not a game design masterpiece, but i was completely fascinated by it. It really shows that i can appreciate a narrative focused blockbuster game, even love it, and that the problem is just that other games have boring setting/writing.

It has some unfortunate flaws (inventory management, gameplay systems don't play well together), but also many things it does well (storytelling, graphics, world). It's a good game.
