PS4 easily. But that's because the game on 360 did not appeal to me compared to the ps library.

Even though I didn't like it, yes halo was revolutionary, and it had other hits like gears, fable and forza. But the 360 lost a lot of exclusives to ps3 as the generation waned and honestly the latter part of the 360 was not great when ps3 started doing last of us which also inspired many things. You also forget ps3 had demon souls which was just as influential in the long run for games. Why does this ps3 game matter? Bloodborne.

It truly is hard to compare ps4 vs 360 in terms of generation simply because times are different when discussing first party after influences of the previous generation, but while 360 did have big hits, ps4 still had a massive variety thanks to jp games being so dominant, and was truly a king of having something available to everything. PS4 was still the king of jrpgs, solo cinematic games like God of War or spiderman, mmorpgs such as ffxiv, fighting games as the only place to play street fighter, and it was better for physical collectors since companies like lrg and slg support ps4 and not really Xbox aside from a few titles.

Ps4 just has too big a library for 360 to compete.

It's not even close. 360 had the best final years in a console history with Kinectimals, Kinect Disneyland Adventures, Dance Central, Fable: The Journey and Michael Jackson: The Experience. And what an experience it was!

You can have 10 million exclusives but if they're all the same kind (third person action adventure) then it doesn't matter.

I mean by that logic, 360 only has like 6 exclusives, Halo, Forza, Gears, Fable, and a couple others.

Ps4 not only has a lot, they have a lot of high end respected ones that people do play and know. Bloodborne, Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, inFAMOUS, Spiderman, Nioh were all great experiences. But they also have other high end ones that are loved like Gravity Rush, Persona 5, Yakuza 6, and yes even Knack. And all of those rate incredibly well. Don't forget the slew of games for niche crowds like FFXIV, Medieval remake which I loved, Tons of visual novels, The Neptunia Series, Atelier games, Concrete Genie, Dreams; the list goes on. In fact, several games listed as 360 exclusives were later brought to PS4 like Tales of Vesperia.

"Xbox 360 introduced Bioshock, Mass Effect, Gears of War which ended up becoming huge franchises and some of my personal favorites. Alan wake not bad either"
Except Mass Effect is on PS3. Bioshock is as well. Introduced doesn't equal Exclusive which is the topic.

Finally, are we going to include the fact that many games released on PS4 AND switch completely skipping xbox? I guess those wouldn't really count as exclusives then.

For every game 360 had that was big (and not just random exclusive), PS had options that were similar. the ONLY game in the entire 360 library that stands out is still Halo 3.

The 360 exclusive library was awesome until like 2009. Then Sony got the likes bioshock and mass effect and all 360 was really left with was halo, gears and forza over and over again. A few those halo games were more like dlc aswell. Overall the 360 exclusive library was weak. both PS3 and PS4 had a strong exclusive library.

they both where fantastic for their eras almost all my friends had a xbox 360 even hardcore playstation fans i knew had a xbox 360 to play multiplayer or fifa when we were hanging about... the 360 was good for the same reason the ps4 was... they both performed better than the competition in multiplats easily cod was always almost hitting 60fps on 360 no problem so cmon... the only difference is PS4 had the better looking games in comparison and 360 failed to equal ps3 in that aspect... i felt like this generation was supposed to be the revenge of xbox after failing last gen but they only got gamepass right.. it reminds me of xbox live in 360 days but everything else is still as lastgen

If only comparing the games in your two images there, probably PS4 though The Last Guardian is doing most of the heavy lifting as my second favorite game ever, with God of War and Bloodborne carrying much of the rest. 360 was peak Halo though, the first Mass Effect was an Xbox console exclusive for a long time, TES Oblivion was Xbox console exclusive and Skyrim might as well have been with how shitty the PS3 version was. I have more fond memories with the 360 then the PS4 on the whole.

Halo 3, Halo: Reach, Alan Wake, PGR 3 and 4, Forza Horizon 2 and Gears of War 2 and 3. Xbox 360 with a toe. PS4 was a great console, though, with some really good third person action/adventure games in single player. Probably my fav PlayStation.

The 360 exclusive library is highly overrated. Most of the games I thought made the system special went over to the PS3 eventually. Mass effect series, Bioshock, Oblivion, etc. The Xbox 360 would've flopped hard if Sony didn't screw up the PS3 launch.

If the PS3 launched on time, was the same price as the 360, and easier to develop for that would've been the end of the Xbox brand. Big name Japanese games like FF, RE, Street fighter, MGR, Bayonetta, etc would've probably remained PS3 exclusive. No way Microsoft would've been happy with losing a lot of money on the original Xbox and losing even more with the RROD.

MS couldn't justify spending 3+ billion dollars on RROD while having a small market share. Especially at a time MS wasn't all in on Xbox.

If only, if only... If only more people had bought the Gamecube. If only Sega had had success with the Dreamcast. Things would've been different.

Xbox 360 had a solid library, granted most games were not exclusives. But when you own a console that doesn't matter. You want new games, not necessarily exclusive ones (especially if you own one console and not two or three), and 360 had tons of it.

Is this another one of those threads where we pretend that the 360 didn’t run out of steam 2/3 of the way into it’s gen? Not to mentioned they nearly abandoned Japanese games near the end of it’s run too.

SlimySnake SlimySnake ‘s take is right.

The only reason I’m forgiving of this and still consider 360 a decent console, is because the Dreamcast went through nearly the same thing(very strong start, bad finish).

Both Dreamcast and 360 are like when you think back fondly of the “in love” stage of an ex-relationship, but you forget those moments afterwards where they both let you down in the end.

Who the fuck are you and what have you done with my B bluecowboys ?! :messenger_angry:

Mass Effect and Bioshock were only timed exclusives though.
At the time though, when the HD jump was still considered massive (to this day nothing comes close), timed exclusivity mattered as games on PS3 were scarce. Those games were absolute bangers at the time, they came out of nowhere

Context I feel like really matters

I still don’t consider them exclusives if they were ported within the same gen.

What a lopsided battle, pitting a console which launched in 2005 (and started running out of steam after 6 years) against a console that launched almost exactly 8 years later (and is STILL going after 10 years).

Um.... Xbox has the Gears series, Halo series, and Forza series. PlayStation has the Uncharted series, Infamous series, Killzone series, The Last of Us series, Knack1 and 2, Gran Turismo. PS4 way better.

I prefer the 360 without a second of hesitation. There were more exclusives than in the picture, by the way. We are missing many shmups, a Guilty Gear game and Virtual on Force for example.

I voted for PS4 but there were a lot of 360 games I missed that others have raved about like Lost Odyssey. I primarily owned 360 for multiplats since they were often the best version.

I absolutely loved Fable 2 though.

Even as a hardcore Xbox gamer and Matt Booty fanboy, I have to admit that on this question Playstation stomps all over Microsoft's trash ass.

Just look at how many lips or racing games you see in the first image then talk about games being "the same".

Hmm.... I definitely remember the 360 era more fondly in terms of exclusives. While I did enjoy the PS4, it feels like Sony just kept making the same sort of game over and over, which is ironic given 360 was the cover shooter era.

As of now, I give a slight edge to the PS4 library.

But, and this is a big but, I didn't want to miss several games that came out on Xbox 360. At the time, it was a must have console.

Represent.

Represent(ative) of bad opinions
I can’t believe MS used to be so good at this. The fall they’ve had since then is unreal. 360 was so great from 2005-2010. From banger after banger, to nothing at all for a whole calendar year.

PS4 wins but that’s just because of A) my taste in games and B) they made more successful new IP

PS4 also has the GOAT 1-2 punch in GOW 2018 and TLOU2

There's no Xbox console that has a better library of exclusives than any Sony console. IMO of course...

Edit: Not counting handhelds.
