Don't sleep on Gotham Knights, its a solid AA title

I have this game and its really trash how can a game this long in development look and especially play this bad. The batman games combat was excellent flowed well and reponsive. The combat in the game is the same style but they totally fucked up the responsiveness of the controls and the animations suck. The graphics at some times look worse than the arkham games and at best look like remastered versions of it.

Even someone just giving their views, the replies will exaggerate what is being said just to attack OP as if THEY ALONE made the game or something. All I read is that they enjoy the game, simply not at full price.....thats it.
Yea I'm used to it here, at least people can talk free here unlinke the other place,

For what its worth, I'm one of the lunatics that liked Fallout 76 and at launch

No worries, I liked Fallout 76 at launch too and felt the bugs wasn't as bad as many made it out to be and liked it for what it was, even if I liked the other fallout games better, I don't regret playing through Fallout 76.

I think gamers just exaggerate a lot and try to rate games like SHIT then GOTY lol As if no in between exist.

Yeah, bought it on egs and am straight up loving it. No idea why gaf is down on combat. It feels great but I’m playing as red hood and it lets me play the game as a shooter. Lots of abilities that are constantly unlocking. The first couple of hours where you don’t have any abilities i can understand, but the game keeps giving you more and more upgrades.

Loved the Harley, mr freeze and clayface side quests. Side quests done right. They feel like main quest material with boss fights and story beats. In fact out of all the gaas games I’ve played, this feels far more like a traditional game than the half ass campaigns of anthem, destiny and division. Real story missions that feel like they were designed for single player, decent character development and actual levels with story beats.

The world looks ok but is boring and empty. I get why you would call it AA. It is lacking that wow factor of the previous games but this is by no means a bad game. I don’t get why gaf doesn’t appreciate games with good and deep combat systems while praising walking sims like stray and literal ps2 quality combat in games like kena and plagues tale. Its no gow or elden ring or even Arkham knight but to completely dismiss it while hailing games with poor combat systems is really odd for a hardcore gaming forum.

P.s i like the traditional melee combat system of this game and it is good to see something different than the free flow combat system of the original games. It’s different and fun, and more in line with other melee games. They could’ve just done a copy pasta but they put in the effort to make it different. You gotta admire that.

Well, the title of the thread is phrased in a way that kinda begs to be ridiculed. Allow me to explain.

First of, it was a game that was marketed as a triple-A title and sold at a triple-A price, so by typing "AA" OP is trying to suggest otherwise and kinda dilutes the fact that the game was just bad, and not this lower-budgeted mid-shelf title that got unfairly criticized.

Also, the turn of phrase "don't sleep on X" is more appropriate for a game that was overlooked by most people but was an otherwise solid title that deserved more attention. And Gotham Knights definitely got enough attention, most of which wasn't even positive. You could make that kind of thread about Ghostwire Tokyo for example, but definitely not Gotham Knights.

I basically said the same for the combat, i'm glad it is not another brainless free flow title.

Currently renting the PS5 version from GameFly and aside from the dorkiest Batgirl I've ever seen, it isn't too bad. Also, weird that they have Robin wearing a maternity outfit. Is he expecting?

But stupid character decisions aside, I'm going to play through it some more. If I like it enough then I'll buy it on PC ($20ish dollars in some places) and play with a proper frame rate.

it's not as bad as people make out.
The graphics aren't as bad either, and while Arkham Knight does look better in stills after seeing it I'm not convinced anymore.
Sure Arkham does some stuff better but overall you can see it looks better.

Seriously, I picked this up for 50% off and I've been impressed for the first 2 hours in, if you're a Batman fan at all, its definitely worth a look at,

My only real faults with it that that fact that on PS5 its locked to 30FPS and runs kinda slow in places (I noticed it more in the Batcycle driving, it doesn't feel fast enough) and the combat tries to be like Arkhams but kinda feels like a offshoot of it, its hard to describe

Oh and the vibration seemed to turn itself off, its one of those games where its fun to blast through but not at full price, AA is where I'd put it so far
There’s a reason why it’s 50% off only 2 months out.

Yeah, I don't get the replies either. Dude bought a game at half price and people are giving him grief for it while it seems some (not all) of those who actually played the game agree with him.

I bought Mass Effect Andromeda six months after it launched for half the price and had a really good time with it. I've played quite a few games that fell into that 6 to 7 metacritic range that a lot of gamers are too good for (or something like that). Mad Max and Vampyr come to mind. So props for the thread and expressing an unpopular opinion.

A lot of the people here who trash games like this don't even play them. They just get caught up in the dogpile shitpost contest.

There are NPCs. There is traffic. There are goons. Just not as many.

Probably related to coop. You can explore the entire open world with a coop partner which isnt something you see in typical open world games like Horizon, Spiderman and Ass Creed. I am guessing they couldve done it with next gen CPUs but by the time they decided to axe the last gen versions it was too late. PC has settings to increase number of NPCs but the framerate already becomes stuttery during coop so i keep it at the default setting of low.

Come on folks, people are clearly dunking on the ". . .solid AA title" to explain what was unquestionably a tent-pole AAA title for WB, as if the AA title makes the woeful design and technical issues appropriate.

Biggest issue I saw with the game was how little character GOTHAM has. It just looks like an open-world city, when a big part of the BATMAN mythology is GOTHAM itself. The really bad traversal would be fine, if the city felt like it has any character in it to make getting around aesthetically interesting.

bought Andromeda at launch. By week 2 they had fixed all the meme animations. It was rushed out because EA wanted it out a week before their March 31st fiscal year deadline. By March 31st, the game's laughable cutscene animations were fixed. It wasnt as buggy as people made it out either.

Mad Max is just an amazing game. Polished. Fun. Great story and combat. Everyone passed on it when it came out and now its become a cult classic like Days Gone.

Everyone here trashes critics for sucking up to developers but whenever they see a game get bad reviews they all of a sudden start to trust their opinions. Gotham Knights sitting at 68 metacritic is hilarious considering how critics have been overrating games all gen.

Good to see that you are enjoying it. I'm a sucker for superhero games, it's basically guaranteed that I'll give it a look when it gets cheap enough.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
It made for a decent rental that's for sure. Glad I didn't pay full price for it.

Part of the problem is the interpretation of the score. Why is 7-ish bad? To me, that is a decent score. I said as much in the review thread....

I mean......the scores are not bad.

PS5: 70
PC: 64
Xbox: 68

Certainly not great. Just.....ok-ish. But still, it will flop commercially because no one wants to pay full price for ok-ish. It will be $30 in no time.

it was patched several times rather quickly and runs pretty much flawlessly on pc.

looked up a video from the patch from 2 weeks ago...guy turns RT on, the framerate drops like a stone and GPU utilization is at 68%
without RT the utilization is at 70% at 1440p on a 3080ti, CPU utilization 2% on the guy's i7 12700K

and this is why I don't trust anyone without objective data on hand

Latest update on steam seems to bring performance up to as good as it gets.
Driving around the city is completely smooth for me now, it still loads stuff in at points obviously, but even then it doesn't drop to lower than ~55 fps for me.
RT performance is great too, no stuttering and an average of 40fps while driving, 30 at the lowest.
🤷‍♂️

Tried it on my PC with RX 590 and it runs surprisingly good from the little i played, using FSR i can run it at 1440p at what seems like 60fps. Why haven't the devs added this to the consoles version is beyond me. Anyhow the game isn't bad but compared to the Arkham series it feels so lifeless and generic.

Yup that's usually how it goes with these types of games.

Point in question: Shadow Warrior 3. Currently at mixed reviews on Steam but I got it on the cheap the other day and am already 10hours deep because I keep replaying the campaign over and over again. The movement system is just too good! Probably not a great buy for full price but at 15EU I am super happy with it.

What does this even mean? Also where are all the indie titles with graphical fidelity on the level that GK has?
Obviously the 'criticism' by the guy you quoted is pretty stupid but saying that there's plenty of smaller budget titles that do fantastic work with raw fidelity in visuals. Bright Memory comes to mind which is made by one guy. The visuals of Gotham Knights are solid either way. Perhaps not as detailed as the previous games (in some aspects) but to wave it away with a mere "it looks like an indie title" is just dumb.

I pre-ordered the game and could not get into it, the controls didn't feel right. I have the game and couldn't get a refund on it so I will definitely give it another go later on. I really wanted this to be good but initial impressions don't even have it close to any of the Batman games that came before.

. . .there are for sure tons of tech demos out there that look stunning.

Graphics look like a high-end indie title.
It's shit like this that exposes gaf to lemming behaviour and just piling on for the sake of what seems like the popular opinion; what an insane shit tier take.

It's more detailed in pretty much every aspect, even arkham knight hides a lot of low res shit with the gritty noise/vaseline filter, the models/textures/effects in gotham knigths are all far more detailed.

Has the game been patched or improved in any way? Haven't heard anything if so, feels like they kinda crapped it out and moved on to other things. I might scope it out if it's ever 20 bucks or less.

Anyone else notice there's a strange weight to the movement on controller?

It's like there's this awkward momentum when you move the camera or your character, and it means you constantly end up moving too far in the direction you want to move - which means you have to correct it by moving in the other direction and it creates this frustrating pendulum, fish tail weirdness that gets annoying very quickly.

Plus, the on-screen prompts kept showing as keyboard and mouse despite being on controller.

It was just another thing that immediately left a bad impression on me.
This is one of those little things that completely ruins a game for me.
