If you could restore one competitive multiplayer shooter to its peak player count for modern consoles and PC, what game would you pick and why?

Killzone 3, because of the better modes. And one of the few multiplayer games I was actually good in,
because the surround sound was fantastic! Also loved seeing myself back in those cutscenes from the Operations mode.

MGO2

BFBC2

Uncharted 2

Assassins Creed 3 (I know not a shooter, but the AC games were just so unique in terms of multiplayer, there’s nothing like them)

Any of these.

Battlefield Heroes.
I know there's a private server but all the regions are so far from me, the ping is horrible.

It's a struggle for me, cause there's so many, lmao.

- Battlefield 2/3
- Unreal Tournament / 2004
- Quake 2
- Shadow Run
- Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast
- Gloom / Natural Selection 2
- Alien Vs Predator 2

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. No one remembers spies vs. mercs?
So good. Always surprised it didn't get a remake or a copy cat.
One of the greatest multiplayer loops:
  1. Drop from the ceiling behind a merc
  2. Grab him from behind
  3. Whisper some sweet trash talk into his ear
  4. Snap the neck

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Dating myself here a bit but

Halo 3 I think I had the most fun there. I don't really care about the multiplayer side of games. I always preferred the single player. But I was pretty good at Halo 3 multiplayer.

It would be battlefield 3 for me. It is my favorite one (closely followed by BC2 and then BF4). I think it was the Battlefield with the best balance between soldier and vehicular warfare. The maps and athmosphere were awsome.

Halo 3 without question. That game had major community for a number of years and has more content than Halo Infinite even without it's DLC packs...

For PC I'd say Either Quake 3 Arena or BF4 (With all the fixes implemented.)

Team Fortress Classic.
Rocket/Grenade/Conc jumping is an artform.
TF2 ended up being a dumbed down casual fest - pretty much removing the gameplay listed above.
Real heads know TF and TFC are the real deal - theyre games now lost to time forever.

So many posts for Halo 3 when you can find a Halo 3 match in seconds with the MCC even in 2022 - I dont understand.

Chromehounds - It's more like a Mech Shooter and admittedly a bit slow for today's audience with a meager player base to begin with, but damn that and Armored Core 4. From Software please just port to PC. Somebody will always still be playing it.

I can still find games on Jedi Academy...so this is not that much of a long shot.

This question is really interesting! I started going hard with Battlefield 1942 back in the day: samurai swords, my first 'c-4 jeep', and the strategy of walking the edge of the map as a solo player and catching a squad from behind! Killzone 2 would be great, too: the progression of multi-player ranks, kill-back cam+and+mic, and my group was world ranked. My choice would be BFBC2, though: realistic bullet drop, 'c-4 atv', and Arica Harbor.

The Assassins Creed answer is legit though, that multiplayer was smooth as butter.

for all the ppl saying TitanFall. TitanFall is still alive. I was still getting full games last i played. And TF2 i get full games every time now. All on Xbox.

I want to say Battlefield Bad Company 2, Especially with the Vietnam DLC. But we have plenty of FPS games to choose from. Theres not many decent 3rd person PVP games. Theres Fortnite and Gears of War and thats about it. Division pvp sucks. Uncharted 4 pvp has always been terrible.

So please bring back Uncharted 2/3 Multiplayer. I played it everyday

Natural Selection. Incredible MP mod for Half-Life.

I am guessing this was when the game had better balance in the earlier patches allowing games to go on for hours, rather than the later editions which seemed to play out the same way every game with around 20-30 minute rounds. Also... NS babblers will always live on... NS2's sucked in comparison sadly.

I dumped so much time into this game, and it is still my favorite online shooter. Much like Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, it is an objective based FPS with multiple classes to choose from. Both sides (the Strong or GDF) had 5 classes to choose from, that were the same archetypes with some minor differences. There were also vehicles, which could have used a bit better balancing to be honest but man did I love this game. Problem is, it was published by Activision, around the time CoD MW was released, so once QW launched, there was little support for QW as CoD was their main focus. The community definitely did drive some great custom content, but it was always a small community for such a great game. Really wish it would have taken off more as it deserved so much more. Mind you I only played the PC version, I recall hearing the console versions were pretty rough.

Unreal Tournament would be a second pick here. It kills me Epic killed the project for the new one a year or two ago, because Fortnite is their main focus and rakes in so much cash for them. I get it, but it still sucks 😔

SOCOM II

That game was the first multiplayer game I ever played and was instantaneously hooked. PTT communication was such a godsend in that game.

Bring it back SONY!
