This is the new cope now that COD is not exclusive:

'But we get it for FREE while you have to pay $80'

You know that $15 a month you've missed coming out of your bank account the last 12 months adds up to $180...
There is no cope it's fantastic for PS owners to keep having COD and if Sony allowed Gamepass on PS it would be fantastic for PS owners. Gamepass is ridiculous value for us gamers, you really need to realise how much better value gaming is with Gamepass.

This isn't correct at all.

They have transferred liquid assets to intangible assets. They are collecting more revenue now than just sitting on cash, job done.
You're assuming that that cash was just sitting in a bag, not generating anything, and could not have been invested anywhere else for an even higher return. Because of this you are not accounting for opportunity cost.

Microsoft could have kept that cash in bank, generating interest. Or they could have invested in another division to earn a higher ROI.

Those chose the gaming division to invest that money; they do expect a certain ROI. If the ROI is negative, for example, the alternatives would have been a better choice for them, from a finance and business POV.

I'm not sure if you've seen interest rates and inflation lately? That may have been the very reason for the large investment in the first place! Sitting on cash right now means you're going backwards.

Sure they're investing into a business they believe they are in a position to leverage through Azure to open up new opportunities. This isn't what you started off saying, and what many people keep saying here though. The asset still sits on the general ledger.

About time to ignore these idiots and their copes.

They are playing Snakes and Ladders, while MS are playing the chess.

Unfortunately for them, MS is playing chess against them as long as they live in denial.

I want to figure out the next steps for the Open App Market Act now.

That's great but why are they starting this universal store mess with Google and Apple too? Apple could pull Candy Crush tomorrow like they did with Fortnite and Activision will lose billions before MS even becomes the owner.

Once again, Sony and Nintendo will be caught in the crossfire because of the eshop and PSN.

It's like they always have to piss off everybody when they want to buy their way into a market. Make your own customers instead for once 😤

I think the bill is on the senate floor.

Plus we've just had the highly public spout between Epic vs. Apple.

They must think regulation is coming so they're trying to get in front of it.

I'm okay with being wrong on COD exclusivity and such, along with Diablo, Overwatch etc, but upon a further reading of that statement... it literally can still apply to Warzone and mean games people can already play on Playstation.

All that's really being committed to is games continuing to be available on Playstation, which can mean you'll always be able to purchase, download and play the existing titles, along with Warzone.

Of course COD will never be exclusively available on Xbox, Warzone and existing COD games will still be on Playstation.

Even the beyond agreement and future remarks are clever, and don't ever commit to newer call of duty releases. They could have very easily said "All future Call of Duty games will continue to release on Playstation. None of the future titles in the COD franchise will skip Playstation."

And when they end by saying Sony fans can continue to enjoy the games they love. That again can mean ones they already possess. No commitment to newer titles past the agreement. And the CNBC interview I saw only convinced me further.

The minecraft example he brought up is common sense. Who wouldn't bring up minecraft when trying to get approval for this deal? More platforms is literally covered by game pass minus Playstation. Game Pass automatically spreads a game across more platforms than PC, Xbox and Playstation. Man even said "HOPE" when referring to support for other platforms.

Translation: Microsoft is setting the PR stage, and fully intends to take full advantage and make games exclusive if the acquisition clears. This was just them presenting their arguments.

MS are pushing for console to be exempt due to the business model being loss leader.

Also apple haven't got the balls to take on Microsoft

Well I was responding to the idea that Gamepass is 'free' and PS titles cost $80, both are wrong. You didnt say that specifically but you intimated it.

Look at it this way: with Gamepass you're paying $15 or $10 a month to be able to play COD. Seeing as its a game people play until the next one releases and you lose access to it as soon as you stop subscribing. For 12 months you've paid $120 or $180 to play it.

If you buy it outright you pay $50 or $60 once and own it forever, you dont keep paying the longer you want to pay it.

This is not pr schmaltz. This is MSs outline of their plans to appease the FTC. They deviate I'm sure they'll be held accountable.

But do keep on coping on.

Starting to wonder if those releases on Playstaion will be incomplete and not feature full, when compared to PC and Xbox releases. Sony themselves opened the door with the Godfall PSN release. Although I guess it's not different then exclusive levels, items etc. But Microsoft could lessen the Sony release and add value to Microsoft platform releases. Hope it doesn't happen.

Holy Toledo Batman!

"This commitment will even extend to Nintendo, in what looks like a move to position Microsoft as a game publisher across Xbox, PlayStation, PC, and Nintendo Switch, beyond Minecraft and existing Bethesda games."

It's looking like PS5 will be the only plastic box one needs under the TV in the future.

I hope Sony will never stop making consoles hardwares, Fuck Cloud Gaming.

Because its financial lucrative to do so and Congress doesn't like the power of Apple and Google. They want the King revenue to be more profitable.

Apple can't really pull Candy Crush until King infringes their rules and it doesn't seem like they are going to. If they do, the movement behind the Open App Market Act gets stronger.

Have a look at the bill, it only applies to stores/platform holders greater than a certain MAU within the US and it wouldn't probably apply to Sony and Nintendo. MS might get caught up in it cause they have the MS store on PC as well.

Got bills passed in South Korea and Netherlands, EU is investigating the power of Apple and Google in this area (and others), the open app market act is out of the committee stage and should be hitting the wider Senate soon I hope.

People forget the most profitable company from gaming related revenue is Apple.

I think the big reason for this multiplatform direction is that Sony and MS have seen they aren't number one for revenue in gaming anymore

Suddenly it's a third party publisher Tencent, who dont even have a system. The difference in revenues between the consoles manufacturers and third parties used to be gigantic

I did find it a bit on the nose that Apple so casually rejected a GamePass app on iOS without much scrutiny. That does seem abuse of platform powers to enter into new markets - game and music subscriptions with unfair advantages.

Most likely then is that it will continue on PS5 as is, but what he said could easily mean "of course it will be on xbox and switch. All they need to do is let gamepass on the platform." especially when it comes to the switch, even ps4 cod games would struggle to run smoothly so I have no idea how a ps5/xsc cod could run on the switch without some sort of cloud streaming.

Microsoft is probably being straight here and saying releases will continue to come out on PS5 physically and digitally, but a small percentage of me thinks they are being very coy with their wording.

I don't care either way, cod doesn't interest me, though now they will appear on Gamepass I might give the releases a go.

I wonder if that will change once the chip shortages and pandemic eases. Increase marketshare for the series consoles might make console exclusivity a better option profitwise for MS compare to sales they get from releasing on the competitions console.

People are just kidding themself's. I bet after 2023 Infinity Ward next COD game will only be on Xbox, XCloud, PC and it be left to Warzone to be multiplatform and of course MS wants Xbox cloud on the likes of Switch

You're right. Microsoft can just explain to regulators why they lied to them the next time they're in their crosshairs. I'm sure they'll understand

Dream on if you think MS is paying 70 Billion dollars to become a PS publisher.
We heard all the same talk with Bethesda and is Starfield coming to the PS?. You can beat Warzone will remain multi but I bet you right next the next IW Call of Duty game after 2022 will be Xbox only

The_Mike

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
If call of duty goes multi platform, then why haven't they released Forza, halo etc already on playstation as well?

If you buy one of the best selling franchises of all times and keep it multi platform, then what's the point to have other exclusives to their eco system?

They just released infinite, why didn't they release it for PlayStation? Same as Forza, why wasn't horizon 5 on playstation?

Again link to the blog post where MS directly addressed the FTC to get the Bethesda acquisition approved

I'm sure he will jump at the chance to extend the contract with Sony after 2024 now that he got the okay from MS. No CODs on GP even after 2025 😅

Kotick can’t sign new deals.
We should be getting COD on Gamepass by 2023.

I actually don’t find it too weird. COD sells boatloads and Activision or Bobby probably knows people are willing to pay money for COD games. That’s why I would still be surprised if or when COD goes on Gamepass because so many people are willing to pay good money for it.

What year is this?

Yep, the statements are still quite vague and could mean different things. Financially speaking, the mainline CoD games really don't make that much money on Sony platforms (I'd estimate maybe 5% of ABs entire revenue), so Microsoft could easily do without that money.

This is a weird meltdown
Was Halo or Forza multiplatform?

The main benefit for me is that I spend £70 to £100 on Call Of Duty every year and now I'll get that in my Gamepass subscription, also no doubt Xbox will get the alpha and beta tests first and be a priority technically which hasn't been the case for years.
Sony won't be able to pay to lock a mode out of the game I've paid for 12 months either, hopefully Microsoft aren't petty enough to do that PS players.
No doubt Gamepass subscribers will get exclusive gear, skins etc and the advertising push will all be about how you can get the games without spending £70.

Nah, no point debating this hard over something that we won't even know for sure about until end of 2023 at the earliest.

Let's at least let the deal close so we start finding out what's actually gonna be exclusive and what isn't from the ABK sale.

Timed exclusivity perhaps?

Apart from that imagine if Sony moneyhats exclusives made by ms studios in the future 😂. Deathloop 2 first on PS!
