Yeah I disagree with this I am running dual LG 27GP950s and they have 4k 120fps for console, 160 fps for PC, single digit response times, GSync and FreeSync Premium Pro with an IPS panel and can hit close to 700 nits peak brightnessYou are getting a monitor for ps5. It is one of several amazing monitors that pair nicely with these new gen consoles especially for people gaming at a desk

Sorry man but you can't say shit HDR then use an OLED as comparison especially if you are putting the OLED in game mode
Several videos out there by very respected people saying why even OLED isn't bright enough for real HDR

I prefer to play at my desk and my computer is also hooked up to the same display. It just works for me. Plus, monitors have lower input lag than TVs typically. Also, I prefer the smaller size of 28 inches. 4K looks good on my current monitor, but I wanted one that can do 120Hz at 4K (for stuff like ratchet and clank's 40fps mode) and also be able to do HDMI 2.1 spec VRR which my current monitor only supports freesync.

C1 in game mode don't look any worse than other modes when it comes to HDR. Game mode don't have movie specific ai crap like denoisers, smoothening etc.
Game mode does not make it dimmer lol this is bs.
It's almost 800 nits peak. It s absolutely blinding when you watch/play at night or evening.
LCD monitors are supposed to be run at 100 nits for best SDR experience.... And I also run my oled on 100-120 nits when I play in SDR.
Oled is absolutely THE BEST HDR and screen quality there is. Even full screen hdr white is bright enough ad it's not even a realistic test. Normally only parts of the image are bright. Like exiting a cave in uncharted, or looking at the bright window.
Death Stranding during the day, uc4 night. Complaining about "dim screen" with oled is the dumbest thing possible. Almost as idiotic as burn in fear.
The screen is contrasty, saturated, very bright where it needs to be.
Size is subjective, sure. But I find it hard to believe anyone who would play on bigger oled, would like to go back to smaller monitor.
My coworker laughed at me, then he played few hours of battlefield 5 and got used to it.
And the input lag?! Really ?! That is not an argument. It's 8ms input lag + instant pixel respones.

Its great you are happy with OLED as its a great picture but its just fact it has brightness limitations especially while on the entire screen that holds its back
And 800 nits is just a tiny part of the screen but when in full field its more like 150 nits where as a TV such as the QN90a holds much higher brightness across the entire screen.
Anyhow we both made our points now we can go back to waiting for VRR

Umm, I've been gaming on monitors since early PS3 days. I don't like big TVs, period.
Also, yes, monitors have lower input lag because there's almost no image processing. Yes, game mode helps, but there's still processing being done regardless because TVs try to enhance the picture. On a monitor, there's none of that.
I also prefer the color accuracy of a good monitor.
Also, the lack of HDR isn't that big of a deal for me.

For color accuracy, sure! But for HDR and brightness QLED and NanoIPS knocks it out of the park.
Do you get paid for promoting LG OLED's - it's every thread nowadays, where you need to take a picture of your TV and post it in here, with a statement of how every other screen is shit compared to it.
I got news for you - it's not that great, especially not for desktop use, cause the pixel density is way too low and the brightness is utter shit compared to IPS monitors.
OLED's are for the general consumers - the couch gamers that only games at night or when it's dark outside, or they have some curtains that can block out all interfering light.
NanoIPS monitors with HDR750 is where it's at - true nits for true gamers.

But I don't see how it's not really true?
I think it's a good sweet spot. Certainly for me as I consume my content mostly in evening/at night. So being any brighter than this, would probably give me headaches.

Nothing against monitors or nanoips but hbaving full 750 nits all the time? that's too bright.
The key is to create contrast. Have that bright sun, candle or window opening and everything else dark.
With LCD monitors, you will need dimimng zones. But even the darkest ips still glows.
Anyway - whole screen being 750 would be eyestraining

Yeah I've seen it. He is not wrong but also, making it sound worse than it is.
So miniled tv's don't have lcd traits like slow response times, ips/va glow, gamma shift, contrast etc?
I've not seen one in person yet. I've only watched few reviews and the summary was "not enough zones, too long time for zones to catch up, still layer below just an lcd".
Anyway - I might be wrong. I am fine with OLED for now. Might think about something else in march-may, so I will redo my research then.
I value contrast and no glow more than anything. Brightness is absolutely fine for me. if it's like 200 nits brighter next year, sure. why not

It's not 750 nits all the time - only when it needs to, like when staring at the sun in games I need to squeeze my eyes or it literally hurts them - like in reality.
Contrast needs light, sure it's easier to make "good" contrast if the screen only delivers small amount of light - that's the OLED's force over LED's - better contrast in dimmer lights.
No screen can do it all, so stop acting like OLED is the best of them all, cause it's best for some things, while LED's are best for other things. That's just the way it (still) is with displays.

Do you even know what dynamic range means? The parts of the screen where there is lights turns up and down in brightness - this is literally what HDR is.

They’re trying to make it like Sony lied. While I would like them to add VRR support, they never promised a specific date. It all been speculation.

It comes down to HDMI bandwith of only 32gbps, that's why it can't do 4k 120fps 4:4:4:
I haven't seen any confirmation if this is a hardware or software limit but unless it's lifted then 8k 60fps isn't possible as I believe that needs 48gbps.

I think we can assume both console makers know they can unlock it because series x is capped at 40 and they plan to have 8k as well.

If it's 8k 60 I havent seen any confirmation of that, it could be they mean 8k 30 4:4:2.
Seems like Microsoft set the limit at 40gbps because that enables 4k 120 4:4:4.

MSFT also uses DSC, which is a compressed signal to fit it as well, it's not a full fat uncompressed.

But You will say "I am talking about dynamic range of information captured in the image". Of course you are. Means that I can see dark stuff in the tunnel and bright stuff outside. At the same time. That's what HDR is for... + giving it all a proper brightness values.

The whole thing is really confusing if you don't come from the kind of gaming that actually took advantage of faster refresh rates and frames, which was mainly the PC realm, and more specifically the FPS genre.
VRR is an awesome solution if your hardware can't keep up with your screen.
Its baffling to me that I was chasing 120fps/120hz in 2001 and its now 2022 and we are still struggling to bring the industry up to speed. I partially blame the consoles for being underpowered, and the TV manufacturers taking decades to implement 120hz into their TVs. We could argue that devs also concentrated on graphical fidelity, rather than smoothness/motion blur, but still... its such a long time.
Most single player games can get away with 60fps, but don't fool yourself in thinking that's ok... higher refresh rate and faster monitor to match will ALWAYS be superior.
