Jeff Grubb: Everwild got rebooted after its creative director left last year, now scheduled to 2023 but could slip to 2024

There are a lot of bullshit takes in this thread.

First not a single person here knows the scale of the game rare is building. Until you do, all the talk of a reboot or them taking too long is pure fanboy talk. All the suggestions of problems at the studio or them not being in the glory years is meaningless with the fact they have a clear hit with sea of thieves.

Second, returning to this bs that xbox has no games is purely fanboy driven. Xbox will have more first party titles released then sony or nintendo by end of this generation. Sorry but the people trying to revise history as if ms didnt purchase studios, stop living in the past. They made the moves, specifically to increase the output of first party games. MS has a lot planned and specifically with big franchise names, but they still haven't announced titles coming from a number of studios they acquired. Not to mention most studios have multiple teams. Some have 4 or more.

Note Sony also showed titles for ps5 before launch that were as far out as 2022 or 23.

Lol you're whining about drama from months ago. Take a chill pill warrior

What's the etc?

Also please list the things he got right.
He literally “hears things” every week but he also “can’t be sure” he’s one of those ”insiders” that drive traffic to his linktree of content videos because they know his fans, mostly xbox fans, will run and eat up everything he says. It’s the circle of hype he can either downplay if it never comes to fruition or add a notch to his belt if they end up being somewhat true. It’s like the twitter insider starter kit.

Free xbox live gold, scarlet nexus on gamepass day one, saying Elden ring trailer was coming coming in April…etc
Free Xbox Live gold for F2P games which did happen, Scarlett Nexus was a wrong call because he confused with Code Vein from the same studio which released in gamepass days later, Elden Ring trailer was indeed coming out in April, there was even a leak months before, then From Software delayed the game and media content. Sounds like you are picking him because of Xbox

No, I’m picking any insiders that have weekly podcast where they just speculate and fake leak info because it gets them views. It just seems recently Microsoft I soft is ripe with fake insiders

The F2P happened after MS doubled the cost and got chewed out. That was a make good after fucking up. Tubster thought MS was dropping Xbox Live costs when it actually doubled the cost. He didn't call that right.

Dunno any fake leaks of him, he has a great track record and every time they want to pick on him is because of Xbox. The whole fake leak drama is about stuff he said in speculation and never to be taken as a fact.

Both Grubb and Jez said about being free months ahead, and the latter is a reliable info too.

Jez is another phony. the guy that was jsut shouting about how gamepass had 30 million subscribers or that microsoft was buying take two? Or just acquired 5 studios around the time of E3?

Trolling? Do you believe every gamer has even played most of the best xbox one/ps4 gen titles? Some are playing Stars Wars Jedi: Fallen Order for the first time, a bunch of the Yakuza games are on Game Pass, Scarlet Nexus is dropping soon, Psychonauts 2 looks fantastic and drops in August, Halo Infinite comes this year, Forza Horizon 5 comes this year, game pass owners got MLB The Show added to the service, Yakuza Like A Dragon is gamepass bound, a bunch of Bethesda titles have been dropped on there that many have never played, or people want to revisit in light of recent Bethesda news, such as Prey, Fallout 4, Skyrim etc., Watch Dogs Legion just got a 60fps update, many still haven't played AC: Valhalla, Doom next gen upgrade is coming, Elder Scrolls Online is getting next gen enhanced (and Game Pass owners got that free also). Any and all DLC for any Bethesda games are an automatic free addition to Game Pass going forward, and I'm leaving out a shit ton of other games.

Saying there isn't much to play for Series X is just plain laughable at this stage. Gamepass makes it so that you don't even know where the hell to begin on what game to play. The choice is insane.
Think he meant exclusives, which he's entirely correct about.

He does do that.

But he's broken enough true stories for me to be classified as more than that. Your description reads more for that Nick guy from XBox Era.

Listening to this commentary it's pretty clear that the actual game aspect wasn't important to them. Seems to me they went into this trying to elevate games without a clue on the actual craft of game making. What they had were just some triggered events and things that could be used for puzzle type gameplay. I also question that the creative lead left voluntarily.

Yeah I pretty much ignore Grubb at this point, too much wrong in too little time. Not to mention, they never actually stick hard to most of their supposed rumors, they phrase them like opinions and then it's everyone else who calls them a rumor but he lets it happen.

That guys a nobody. Part of me doubts he has any actual industry ties at all.

The only “insider” i trust is Schriere and he’s not even an insider he does actual investigative work.

Rare has lived in its own wonderland for a long time, where people think that releasing a product without content and dragging it out for three years to a normal state is a great idea.
Let them continue to complement the sea of thieves and end there.

Or let them return to their catalog of the legendary IPs.

So far, the current Rare is a pale shadow of a great developer.

Microsoft really only own the name and IP’s, the talent is long gone.

Not saying the current staff don’t have talent, just the original rare we all know doesn’t exist anymore

I thought the ‘Rare is dead’ posts died out a long time ago?

This just reeks of sheer ignorance, though. The anniversary update a year after release already brought it to a decent state, content wise. And saying it is still content lacking in 2021 when the 2020 Steam release brought overwhelmingly positive user reviews is just plain crazy.

‘Let them’? It’s their choice. And they’ve said they have no intention of going back. They’re working on more ambitious stuff these days.

So far, the current Rare is a pale shadow of a great developer.

They’re having some of their most successful years in terms of sales.

Quite a number of Rare veterans still remain with the studio.
It’s also clear that ‘rare veteran’ isn’t a magic bullet for success. Many of the old talent that you console warriors extol went over to start Playtonic games to make a ‘spiritual successor to Banjo’. It flopped commercially and critically.

Meanwhile, Sea of Thieves has gone on to achieve significant success.

I was hyped for a long time but things has changed, at this point this is just like that Slipspace Halo engine trailer from 2018 and we all know how that turned out.

They made something pretty and are still trying to figure out how to make into a viable video game. Very backwards design philosophy to be sure.

After the massive success of Sea Of Thieves I'm sure Rare will be given whatever time they need to get this done, it looks really interesting and unique.

There’s really nothing similar between those. We’ve heard nothing about technical challenges or engine building being a challenge for this game.

Why are you people like this?

Into one of the best Halo campaigns ever, the best FPS of 2021 and one of the best overall games of 2021?

It's highly plausible that slipspace engine trailer will be achieved with 343's next release. We all know the troubles 343 had with Infinite, but they still made a great game all the same.

They’re similar in how it’s a concept video that might not show how the actual game will be.
You may think Halo Infinite is awesome but did they deliver what the engine trailer showed?

Its the best campaign 343 have produced, effectively making it the 3rd worst Halo campaign in history.

The second part about it being one of the best shooters in 2021, no doubt 100% agreed. However it has been an extremely DIRE year for shooters.

Maybe Everwild will be reworked into an open world shooter... a fantasy cabella.

Rare: “we’ve created a magical world and are still playing around with some gameplay ideas that’ll go with the ‘nature and nurture’ theme we’re working on”

You guys: “Rare doesn’t even know what the game is, haha”.

I'm sure you could do a much better job than a studio with over 30 years experience 🙄

Actually you think Rare after working under Nintendo for so long, would learn to make fun games and not a tech demo first.
You missed the point entirely. Obviously I can't make something so pretty.

Written by someone who has clearly never played Sea of Thieves. Of course I missed your point, because you've failed to establish a point.

Widely hailed as one of the best Halo campaigns ever…and that’s counting the Bungie games too. I’ve also seen many critics call it one of the best FPS campaigns in the past decade. So not just 2021.

But it’s all subjective opinions anyway. The only undeniable fact is that it was overall a very solid critical hit at 87% MC.

When nobody can't even understand what your game is all about after watching different trailers and the same game get postponed like this, some doubts comes to mind my dude, it's all in good spirit to get a laugh out of this mess, i hope they can figured out what they wanna do with this thing.

Sea of thieves, no fun? 😂

Commendable attempt at winning the Most Uninformed Take of December 2021 award, but you’ve comprehensively lost to the guy who said yesterday that Wii Sports wasn’t a killer app for the Nintendo Wii.

ROFL, man the honeymoon period for games really is something. Like when did sub 90 become "critical hits"?

I mean I know they had to cobble together the campaign in what one and a half years so it's pretty good if you look at it from that perspective, but from a "game of the decade" oh boy...

So who knows maybe Everwild and pull it off, my suggestion is that they give the main character a grappling hook, this way they can make the map mostly empty and barren of combat encounters and the player will be far too busy zipping past it to notice. Story can be awful too, with major events happening off screen and told to you by an exposition dump, be a critical hit if they do that.

Even if they release it in a contentless half completed mess they managed to turn Sea of Thieves around, so have to give them some credit.

Sea of Thieves knew what it was from the get go, whatever is happening with Everwild either lost it's purpose or never had one. The delays and staff turnover, are pretty alarming, no?

You had an announcement trailer and another trailer meant to paint the picture of how the game would look, the world and some of the creatures in it. It’s not unusual for devs to announce games without detailing the gameplay mechanics.

A release date was never announced so we can’t really say there was a postponement, ya know?

Nothing in that Rare interview gives the impression that there wasn’t a purpose for Everwild.
No announced release date, so no ‘delay’. And they lost a handful of staff quite a while ago. You say this like they’re constantly hemorrhaging staff.

It's been in the works for over 4 years now. 4 years and two trailers later with not even a hint of what the gameplay entails is far from normal

Most games gives at least a clue of what genre\gameplay someone can expect after 2 trailers, the last game wihout any clue was death stranding, it's not impossible but it's very uncommon.

Also a game doesn't get rebooted if everything is going mighty fine, but maybe that's just me.

The gameplay seems to be an up to four player co-op game with levelling depending on wildlife taming, this seems to enable you to approach more difficult creatures in different ways as you progress.
They actually say this in the video with the mouth full of fish creature.
It must be that certain creatures you tame/help have a relationship with other untamed creatures.
Seems quite original and interesting to me.
