Despite PS4 being lead platform it's still gonna be a hit. Looking forward to it. Gonna look razor sharp on PS5. PS5 owners going to be much happier when you consider faster load times and gameplay that won't struggle to hold 30fps. Still don't have a PS5 yet but I'm sure by the time PS5 are more available Sony will have announced a PS5 Pro. I'll have that to look forward to. Which is nice.

Sorry but there is nothing to look forward to when it comes to this sequel. Wolverine and spiderman 2 all the way. Maybe even the last of us remake but not God of War cross gen ps4 lead console Ragnarok.

This shit is so depressing why can't they understand we bought a ps5 to play ps5 developed games. That's why you made it 4X more powerful and then you base this game off 2013 hardware and say we should be grateful.

i must admit, i am slightly baffled by people not happy with the way the new god of war looks, that scene where they pull in under the bridge to the village on the boat is simply staggering to me. So much detail, so stunning.

The first god of war was a looker, this for sure will have locations and vista's that will outdo it.

I think people should be looking at the game as a complete package, stop worrying about nothing, its going to blow your minds.

From have never been known for graphical fidelity. They purely concentrate on gameplay and story. Graphics are a lesser consideration.

God Of War remains the PS4’s greatest graphical showcase other than TLOU2. Perfectly understandable to be underwhelmed by a sequel that so clearly does not push the Ps5 in the same way.

It is genuinely baffling.

There are 6 or 7 scenes like that in the trailer that are just way beyond anything in the first game. And almost all the rest are of the sort of snowy, rocky, or kind of moodily lit environments that the original ALREADY did virtually perfectly.

E.g. did people seriously expect a huge upgrade to the Kratos model? For me the new version STILL looks better than the new Aloy model in HFW, and her new model is itself WAY better than the one in HZD. That should tell people just how advanced some of the visuals in the original GOW were.

I have to admit it didn't look like a huge step up from GOW but then again, GOW looked so good that it would very difficult to make huge leaps. Diminishing returns with new hardware + having to design with ps4 in mind means we have settle for iterative improvement not a dazzling revolution in graphics. But hey, I'm very confident the game will be tons of fun anyway.

Because it's the easiest thing to promote. And for game studios, it's probably easier to find an uber artist than an uber gameplay coder.

And many gamers internally (whether they know it or not) equate great visuals = great gameplay. So they go together where the industry's biggest strive for greatness is graphics first. Aside from HAVOK or Frostbite which promote destruction and crazy physics, every other game engine seems concerned with which one can do the best nose hairs and gaseous fart fume animations.

On the other hand, many of the best selling games with lots of users dont have the best graphics. Instead they have a fun gameplay loop people love coming back to. Minecraft is probably one of the best examples in modern day. It's really just a bunch of colurful blocks, but people love the creativity and sharing content. The game came out over 10 years ago and is still doing well.

I'd love to hear examples of cross-gen games where the results of the effort ended up better than God of War or Horizon Forbidden West. They've spent years creating the game and its engine for PS4 God of War. You think they're just gonna throw that and all of its assets away after one game? PS4 owners will purchase the sequel in the millions as well as PS5.
