Nixxes Software joins Playstation Studios

It's obvious you won't/can't answer the question about which kind of relationship they had before with this studio. When they were saying they only bought companies they had a deep relationship with nobody said that only made reference to videogame studios as you are saying now. It doesn't matter though, I suppose even you can see the hipocresy in criticizing adquisitions while defending others.

Having said that, let's hope for more Playstation ports to PC soon
You lack common sense. They were talking about video game dev studios. This obviously excludes studios like this

Really excellent acquisition. Looking forward to seeing some top-tier PC ports.

Bolstering their portfolio with such talent is a really smart move.

I wonder whether they'll act as a support studio for larger first party product too?

Dunno them, but not bad to have a talented support studio.

Interesting that they worked on the Legacy of Kain series and there are currently remaster rumors floating about. 🤔

Can anyone explain what's the deep relationship between Playstation and this company? Plastic box fanboys don't really have a lot more arguments to criticize when the other plastic box does something like this
Ported from or ported to Playstation some dozens of games during over 20 years and seems that doing a great job due to related deep tech knowledge.

Nixxes = porters...

It's all connected!
Remember the Netherlands flag on Sam Porter Bridges' back in the Death Stranding Director's Cut.

And they have been working with PlayStation, sometimes exclusively, for more than 20 years.
Do they? Looking at their Wikipedia page they haven't worked on any Sony game. In fact, with Wikipedia as a source, they have only ported three tomb raider games to Playstation and when they did that they also ported them to Windows.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Good news is that PC ports of future PS titles will be amazing

Bad news is that PC ports of future SE titles are going to be a mess... again

SE PC games are always such a mixed bag of shit. This just means that there's a higher chance it'll be shit, which is honestly just expected at this point.

Both it looks like.
People who are fixating only on PC ports are uninformed. Nixxes is so much more than that. They refer to themselves as a "Video Game Co-Development" company.

This is what they do.

In addition to the four bullet points, they also build new console technologies (hardware and software). They created new technologies for both PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. And one of their bigger goals is to increase the efficiency and optimization of games and build technologies around that goal. Basically, they will also be helping PlayStation Studios get better performance out of PS5.

Their role in the PlayStation Studios Head Forum would be crucial and priceless.

Edit: Forgot that they also work on Game Engine development. So expect lots of core game engines improvements across all studios in the PlayStation Studios family.

Apart from providing active game-development support, expect them to assist ICE in improving technologies across PlayStation Studios.

Have they even made anything? Goggle pulled up a Tomb Raider remake and an announced (but non-existent) Marvel project. Bit bizzarre to announce an aquisition without any kind of a pedigree.
I think i remember their symbol in a Deus EX game, it is yellow letters i think.

Great. I like dump investments like this. Instead of investing in studios to make original/big/small/mid games and experimentations, they invest in a PC porting studio. Anything that will lead to Jim being let go because of bad decisions (like this one) is fine me.

Whatever arbitrary standard you wanna use fella. When Sony eventually buy a multiplatform publisher your tune will just change to ‘well they didn’t spend £7b on a publisher’. Predictably boring fantastical nonsense, as ever.
Let us know which xbox ports were canceled when Sony bought either Housemarque, these guys, or even Insomniac.

Rhetoric doesn't matter, what matters is the end result.

This purchase is bringing more Sony games to PC, and better quality ports to boot.
MS buying Bethesda took many franchises away from PS consoles forever.

Keep being a fucking hypocrite, buddy.

How am I a hypocrite? I’m happy for any acquisition from either Sony or Microsoft. Is hypocrite just another word like monopoly to you that you just sling about freely without understanding what it means?

Your comedic ramblings are pretty good content.

Wikipedia only lists Tomb Raider Underworld in 2008, Lara croft and the guardian of light in 2010 and Tomb Raider in 2013 but it might be out of date
Rise of the Tomb Raider 20 Year Celebration and Avengers are the other two. Weirdly they have 2 wiki's that I can see, the nl one is more up to date.

Bullshit.

This acquisition means PC players will get better ports and that their studios that make original/big/small/mid games and experimentations can focus on doing that and not worry about making ports, because this newly acquired studio will be there to make them.

It's a good strategic purchase and Jim is killing it on all fronts making more money, selling more consoles, seling more games and winning more GOTY awards, getting more social media engagement or making more money with game subscriptions than anyone else, in all these cases breaking many gaming history records.

Can you provide a list? Wikipedia only lists 3 games ported to Playstation
I posted it somewhere in the thread. Some games are ported to Xbox and PC (which means that like in many multi games the lead platform was pretty likely PlayStation) and in other games they made the PlayStation port (so the lead platform was other one).

Porting games is a far cry from what Bluepoint does with projects such as Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus.
Yes, but bluepoint started by porting games too. Ico and SOTC collection, MGS2, 3, Uncharted series, Titanfall. It wasnt until 2018 did they finally get to do a full remake.

Nixxes could potentially be given that chance. The studio is arguably the best porting studio in the business. I dont know of a single port they have done in recent years that was bad.

like, this very much confirms a focus on PC ports right?

Nixxes literally is a studio that ports games, mainly to PC... they did that ever since the PS2 days

Great acquisition that fits the Sony and Playstation gameplan going forward. I think everybody will agree that GG spending ANY time working on the HZD port was time better spent on the sequel. Same goes for the rumors of a ND team working on their own ports. Having a dedicated studio with the pedigree of Nixxes to do those ports as well as be a support studio to help their first party lineup get titles out faster is perfect.

Good, I was a little bit skeptical to them releasing their games on PC.

Not because ”I want my console to be the only way to play these games” but because I feared it would make development more of a hassle.

These news relief me. The games may come to PC, but the developer studios can target 1 spec only and then Nixxes Software will handle the port afterwards. Best of two worlds.

Edit: Might add that once again I’m impressed by how Sony does smart aquisitions. This really is. Not necessarily BIG, but smart.

Exactly!

From their own site:

welcometothefamily-708x354.png

Sony Interactive Entertainment (“SIE”) announced today that SIE has completed the acquisition of Nixxes Software B.V. (“Nixxes”), an industry-leading Dutch studio with more than 20 years of experience in game development and optimization. Based in Utrecht, Netherlands, effective immediately, Nixxes will join PlayStation Studios Technology, Creative & Services Group to provide high quality in-house technical and development capabilities for PlayStation Studios.

“I highly respect Nixxes and am excited for this very experienced team to become part of the world-class development community at SIE,” said Hermen Hulst, Head of PlayStation Studios. “They have a passion for improving games and for delivering the best possible experience for gamers. Nixxes will be a strong asset for everyone across PlayStation Studios, helping our teams focus on their most important goal, which is to create unique PlayStation content at the best possible quality.

“We can’t wait to get to work and are so excited to bring our technical and development expertise to an IP powerhouse like PlayStation Studios,” said Jurjen Katsman, Founder & Sr. Director, Development, Nixxes. “We’re looking forward to working with some of the most talented teams in the industry to deliver the highest-quality gameplay experiences for PlayStation fans.”

Good to know that my money expend on console, console fees for third party games, console subscription service and first party games is being well spent on acquiring over the top industry talent.

this can also read to mean they're helping other studios focus on the PS5 versions and them handling the ports to PC

we'll see, but looking at the history of the studio, literally doing PC ports since Soul Reaver 2, this is one pretty obvious impression to get from this purchase

Supposedly doing some remasters/ports of PS4 games currently.

So, an in-house team to handle PC ports then. Should save them money, and ensure ports are great.

Time to repost this classic

Yes and no.
Horizon and Days Gone got ported in-house and there's indications that Naughty Dog hired expertise to be able to do it themselves. So I expect similar from other Sony PC ports.
However, there's plenty of old PS3 era games where current studios might not be so keen to do the work themselves. Nixxes would be perfect there.

Hopefuly they get to develop new unique properties too. Not just slave away at the PC port mines.
