Look at this image and tell me this isn't the best party you've seen in a long time for a JRPG

Mature designs, diverse looking, 3 males, 3 females, you can tell the role of each character in battle, MC's armor even looks like it came out straight out from Dark Souls minus the helmet (looking at you Artorias) and all of this while still retaining the Anime look from the Tales of franchise,

This has to be the best looking JRPG party in a long time, the only party coming close to this one is probably Dragon Quest XI's, anyone else agrees?

I'm legit so about it

Best looking game of the show for me

Could use a quirky animal character, I always love those

I'll take it though

Another Tales cash in, but looks like they spent $3 more on it this time. :messenger_sunglasses:

It's one of those series that doesn't do enough to bring in more players, I played Symphonia, Symphonia 2, Vesperia, Graces, and one of the PS2 games I can't remember the name of, they are all awful and it's clear I don't click with this series.

Generic jrpg party from the looks of it. Did you play the game? Did not think so.

Heres the actual top so far:

Doubt it'll beat these two.

I mean I get it, design wise I like Persona 5 too but can you tell from their designs that Makoto fights with her fists or that Joker uses a dagger to fight? can you tell that Futaba actually can't fight and it's just a support character?

As for Yakuza I mean they work for their franchise but come on most players expect other type of designs for JRPGs and yeah I know that Like a Dragon uses a Job System so their designs change still not good IMO but again they are ok for their franchise.

Ehhhh Tales games have some insufferable characters. I’ll reserve judgement until I actually get to see what their personalities are like.

It's okay. I think previous Tales had better character designs. Then again, I don't really care about diverse/mature thing and just am okay with whatever is aesthetically pleasing in the first place, lol. Still very anime-like and that's what I like.

They look alright. I would have preferred more unique characters. Maybe some animal type people, some non organic human like characters, and maybe a unique pets.

The blonde and pink haired character kind of look like generic anime characters to me.

Even the main guy's face looks like a character creation option.

This is a Tales game so it’s gonna have:

- bitchy ice queen who doesn’t put up with the hero’s shit
- edgelord
- annoying loudmouth brat
- studious yet socially inept scholarly character
- naive, innocent young virginal girl
- grizzled warrior dude

Not sure which one is which yet

Haha, funny that you mention that and I mean you're right and yet Tales of Vesperia's cast, the biggest offender of archetype tropes in JRPGs is also considered the best, most diverse, most charming party in the franchise.

Archetypes just work and that's why we see them repeated time and time again, however Tales of Arise seems to be taking a very serious approach to it's storytelling this time around, or at least I feel that with every trailer they release, I'm not seeing the usual goofiness found in this franchise, we'll see, but personally I'm not againt tropey characters

I did, it was awesome, loved the job system.

Motion Captured actors is not really my idea of good character design sorry.
Oh I see.... My bad then.

What about Trails of Cold Steel 4, it also have great characters and it kinda fit the color scheme (white haired mc and pink haired party member).... Maybe that's why I don't appreciate much Arise character design, it reminds me of many other anime/game characters, while in other Tales, like Abyss for example, was more unique even though was still animu as hell.

I was going to disagree, but after looking at the trailer from games fest again it looks like a lot of the goofiness has been dropped.

but best party, in a world with FF7 remake? no

This game just looks awesome all around. I haven’t cared about a tales game in a long time but when I saw the trailer for this one I was instantly hooked.

Trails of Cold Steel 4 is actually up there as one of my favorite JRPGs period and my favorite in the franchise, but the problem with the cast in those games is that it's so big that I was obviously bound to find characters that I didn't like, going by design alone I don't like Elliot, Millium, Altina, Fie, Towa (clearly not a fan of Lolis xD) I really like the design of the villains in the franchise though

But in General I do like most characters in ToCSIV that's why I gave a like to AmuroChan AmuroChan who posted the image (y)

I feel that's one of the aspects that makes me appreciate it more, the big cast reminds me of the Suikoden games.

The more the merrier and allows to have different designs, even if some end up not being popular... Damn... Now I want to play Suikoden 5...

With all due respect, i think only a deeply rooted denizen of the weeaboo/animaniac echo chamber culture, the kind of culture that can get moved to tears by the 100,000th white haired young girl saving the world in a short skirt, could possibly think the character designs on that photo are, in point of fact, in any way distinguishable from those of countless other anime games and mangas.

Maybe it's because i live in Japan so I'm inundated in this stuff but no, no, no, no, this poster does not in any way, any way, speak to me of new precedents, mature design, anything you said. Sorry.

The game, on the other hand, I'm reasonably interested in. Love the tales series, but none of these characters look remotely as cool as Lloyd Irving.

Well if you want to blow it out of proportions and literally include all of japanese media like you just did, instead of actually reading "In JRPGs in a long time" sure the designs are in fact nothing special.

Oh and I don't share your sentiment of Lloyd being cool at all, I find him really generic actually.

At least he looks slightly less derivative than everyone in that poster there. I mean, white suspenders and a restrained hairstyle I'll take whatever crumbs i can get in this derivative orgy lol

"Jrpgs in a long time" is such an open ended, malleable phrase i won't even try to adapt my point to fit with your yoyo clause

I don't know man you can try, you live in Japan, you have access to all the JRPGs out there, go to Akihabara pick any JRPG and write it down after all the designs for Arise are super generic, pretty sure any will do right?
