ELDEN RING releasing 21.01.2022 - Summer Game Fest TRAILER 2021

That PS5 UE5 demo was one of the worst things to happen for next gen imo, as so many people think thats the level of graphics we are going to be getiing once cross gen ends.
Well they are in for a rude awakening.
Nah, I think we’ll get a cross-gen game that looks like/surpasses that next year.

Gotta say guys, after sitting with the trailer for an hour - felt pretty much zero hype. Im getting it day one and I'm sure it'll be a great game. But in terms of E3 hype meter, it's almost non-existent. I think in time people that can just rate the trailer itself as a piece of marketing will call the trailer underwhelming. First minute 30 nothing happens. Rest of the trailer is a ton of disjointed scenes in extreme slow motion.

How does graphics matter so much? The art direction is always the shit to look out for and From has it in spades.

And people complaining the game will be like Souls is weird as hell. First, nobody has played it. Second, another Soulslike is exactly the thing people have been asking from From.

That trailer was absolutely amazing in terms of content, a trailer that truly sells a game.

The funny thing is I remember people shitting on Sekiro exactly because it wasn't playing like other Souls games but now people complain because it plays like Souls games.

Its losing battle trying make people happy, they are never happy, there is always something petty they need complain about.

I don't think this take will age well.

There is more to visuals than just raw graphics, I didn't like the direction Bluepoint went with the remake, so no matter how technically more advance Demons Souls (PS5) graphics are on paper, Elden Ring just visually looks so much better.

You cant beat better art direction with raw graphics.

I hope they release a trailer more focused on the open world exploration. We all know how the combat is awesome and it will be filled to the brink with cool skills/magic/armor/weapons but I'm very curious to see how From will deal with wide spaces. Their design philosophy and gameplay loop is very interconnected with tight levels.

Aside from the trees, rocks, and tables in those shots, you're right, it looks better. This is less about me comparing it to Elden Ring and more about me challenging that poster's claim about UE5.

It’s crazy how this guy looks like he’s made up of corpses. The multiple of hands attached to him is also pretty crazy. Maybe he can grapple you if you get too close. It makes me wonder why the enemies look the way they do.

Thats exactly why I love about them, they look mysterious and creepy which makes me curious to know more about them and where they came from.

This sums it pretty well.
Bluepoint folks missed the point entirely. They were just focused on making some sort of tech demo, and forgot they were remaking a game that had an actual direction.
Unfortunately what most people care about in NeoGAF is textures, polygons, ray tracing and looking realistic.......fuck aesthetics and art direction, right!?

Not gonna lie, upon a second rewatch of this trailer, one of the most artistically impressive titles I've ever seen. Some designs are just batshit, but what a beautiful fucking presentation on this game. May just give it a shot even though it may not exactly be for me, but then I don't know everything about it yet.

I don't know why people say it looks bad because it looks like ds3... Ds3 is my 4k benchmark. The game looks incredible with all the detail and i think it is underrated visually.
This looks the same or better in spots so good. The art, uniqueness of everything and detail is what makes from games visually. All the statues and geometry in bb and ds3

So Blue Point takes a finished linear game and takes years working on solely the graphics to be compatible with PS5 only and we expect an open world game made from the ground up for hardware from 2012 and expect it to be technically as impressive? That was Blue Points sole purpose, making something for current gen only for one hardware specification. No original ideas, no having to think up a story or new enemies, weapons, etc. Shit isn't fair at all.

The pandemic delayed ER for sure. I bet this was supposed to come out at the end of last gen or in March of this year at the latest. It looks amazing to me despite all of that.

Because developing game is not magic.

Let me ask you this, why God of War (2018) even with better tech and more budget has less enemy/boss types than Bloodborne which no where near as high tech as that game?
You do realize we will eventually reach a point where both are possible right? I mean no one here should be crazy enough to start a fist fight with father time.

I didn't say that nor implied it. I even agreed that it looked better despite that very disadvantage.

And... I agree with you and I agreed with Danjin above.

And you do realize not every developer have the team and budget for high tech graphics.....right?
Which is why the engines, tools, and assets will also keep evolving to help push them forward, like usual.

Horseback battles! hell fucking yeah! I just hope there's a mechanism to not have to travel like ng distances every time you die otherwise I expect spending 200 hrs to finish it.
I've played all souls games, 30yrd of gaming and still icant gitgud or whatever the fuck.

I have this conversation with each generation and still same story, you can’t expect every developers have the luxury to give you high budget AAA game.

Of course not, but games like these, made from single developers, wouldn't look as good as they do without the engines, tools and assets of today:

Thanks to things like UE4 and UE5, indie games don't have to be stuck in the early PS3 generation graphically while everyone with money gets to enjoy the bells and whistles.

DS3 is heavily inspired by Bloodborne. lol what you said makes no sense.
I don't know. I just really disliked BB when playing it. I thought I didn't like the genre until I played DS, now I love it.

Maybe I'll give it a second shot on PC, but something with it didn't sit right with me. I also wasn't a fan of the setting.

Demon's Souls Remake looks graphically better

Demon's Souls Remake made this look 1 gen behind.

Is that for nextgen? It doesn't look nextgen

You guys are judging the game based on a short trailer. Generations are dead now too btw. Low settings: Xbox One and PS4; Medium settings: Xbox Series and PS5; Low-ultra settings: Steam.

For all we know that was the PS4 version.

Just watched the higher quality video and it does look alot better. I just wish from software would update their hair and material physics tech. It looks so stiff and last last gen. If this game had realistic cloth and hair physics it would so much better.

Looks like this is going to deliver what people want. Not much surprise in this trailer, but I suppose the game will get the job done.

This game will probably be one of the goats when it realeases, but its a shame it wasnt developed for next gen primarily. It shows. I cant wait either way.

After the first watch of the trailer, I was extremely hyped and satisfied… But now after several viewing of it, my hype and satisfaction are just getting higher and higher.

After the initial announcement, in 2019, several interviews of Miyazaki hinted that Elden Ring will be a “Dark Souls like”. And I am really happy that it is. Soulsborne are so unique (and in my opinion, almost no other games succeed to provide a similar experience despite people calling them “Souls like”) that I am all for a new Soulsbornering.

From the trailer, it looks typical Fromsoftware : not impressive graphics (but charming for me), focus on gameplay and art design (which is wonderful. The open world shots are gorgeous).
It’s Dark Souls all over again, I love it. We see different build/playstyle, cryptic lore, what looks like summoning (coop and pvp I guess). The scale of some of the bosses looks massive.

I am really curious about their take on open world due to the really vague nature of the Souls game. I am not expecting quest journal and rally point from them. Curious to see if they can make their world interesting to explore (by looking the Soulsborne, I am expecting lot of hidden stuff) without giving clear direction.

I am also curious about the mounted combat. I am skeptical on the idea but I liked the few shots we got from it.
Also I love how the apparition animation from the mount.

I want more detail but it’s already pretty sure it will be a day one for me.

i agree and i'll just add that, yes, seems like Dark Souls here and there but honestly fighting a giant dragon with a double jumping mount is not exactly Souls style (and there is stealth too), this is kinda huge in terms of gameplay.
However yeah day 0.
