That is much better than spending 70$ per game, plus 60$ a year for ps+ just to play first party games.

Ratchet, demon soul, + 60 ps+ is already 200$. While xbox players get gamepass ultimate for 180$ a year, with all 1st party day 1, other day 1 games. Other gamepass games. Can play on pc. And on their phone.

One party managed to get 2 games and year ps+, while the other party got huge library of games and Xbox live 1 year for 180$.

Play Anywhere and Gamepass justify what he is saying, it's a much better value proposition and you even get save games across formats. I play Gears 5, Forza Horizon 4 and Sea Of Thieves on PC as well for no extra cost.
It's the best deal in gaming for a reason.

Exactly right. I vastly prefer Steam, but I don't HAVE to buy any of my Xbox games on it if I don't want to as I've not had problems using the Xbox app to download any games. Before the Xbox app it was def. hit and miss whether the store would work properly or not and I remember having issues downloading Forza and Sea of Thieves, but since then, no problems.

Sony could create their own mechanism if they wanted to... or also talk to other stores.. like the one from a company they part own, if they wanted to.

Well he's right. With Play Anywhere and Smart Delivery you do buy the game once and play it on whatever playform that has Windows on it. I skipped PS4/XB1 gen, but some of their games I bought on PC during that time are now available on my XSX, with all the progression and save games. Just like that. Sony did nothing for me as a PC gamer, and even tho they have recently started porting their games to PC, it's not as user friendly, to say the least. But I understand that Sony wants to have as much people as possible on PS5 first and foremost, and the EGS/Steam releases are rather targeted towards people who wouldn't get the console anyway, but thean again, with such strategy they'll never convice PC gamers into their console.

And on the opposite end if the spectrum I owned their last 2 consoles and will never buy another Xbox console as long as they treat another platform I already game on (the PC) like their primary platform.

So I'm not sure why anyone would think they are doing a better job of convincing PC gamers to buy their consoles when they are literally telling you not to bother.

While I think it's hypocritical for Phil to criticize Sony for this after complaining about console wars toxicity, I dont think he's necessarily wrong. The fact of the matter is that he IS making his games available on PC on day one and Sony is not. I am a 100% convinced Sony will eventually put their games on PC starting 2022 on day one, but right now, Phil is right. He is doing something Sony is not.

Now, this is Sony's own fuck up. Neither Sony or Nintendo have to put their games on PC. They are just not in the PC business. They are hardware manufacturers who only produce software to make sure people buy their consoles for games they cant play elsewhere. That's literally the only purpose of first party software. NOT to put it on PC. NOT to make more money. And definitely not to be pro-consumer and offer PC gamers games without asking them to invest in their eco-system.
