Sort of torn in the middle here, on one side, i can not get a ps5 and don't see it happening for a long time.

My trusty ps4 pro is still a wonderful piece of tech and it is still providing me with untold hours of entertainment.

So i am super glad that the transition will take longer as supporting the ps4 real is a big plus for me.

Saying that, i want to experience new experiences like Demon souls and R+C, i really want to use a dual sense in Asrtobot and most importantly i want those ssd reduced loading times.

I am sick of loading times on ps4,

I loved Days gone, and one day want to do a new play plus, but hell no with those loading times again.

So the sooner we are out of this generation, the better.

Agreed. Some great responses we have in this thread. Lets all pretend PS5 exclusive Ratchet and Clank isn't coming out on June 11th.
Don’t forget Demons souls and Returnal, lets pretend all these games do not exist and ms is the true generational console here with around 0 exclusives. Also as answer on another guy here, Xbox one will hold back the XSX because ms said all ms exclusives would come on all ms consoles for at least 2 to 3 years, which of course is true if they would release anything to begin with 🤣. It’s hard to hold anything back if it doesn’t exist.

Xbox Series X|S are the only next gen consoles with real next gen exclusives coming in 2021/22, take this as a fact and don't be nervous.

In the past games like FFIX, God of War II or Persona 4 released exclusively on the older system despite the newer one was already on the market. Sometimes important exclusives launched basically together with new systems but on the older generation instead, like Spyro 3, even if a next gen version would have helped extremely a poor line up and no bw compability (like GT6 or Beyond Two Souls).
Now luckily cross gens help to avoid those missteps.

I hope in full next gen games soon

I think you have misinterpreted that statement.
They mean that all their consoles are their own generation, opposed to Xbox, wich will probably do incremental updates down the line mimicing a PC platform.
Not really.

At the time MS was touting all games released for at least two years would be playable on the new “Series” models, as well as “One” models (man their naming schemes suck so bad). Sony’s statement was a rebuttal to that. And it was truthful, as we have true PS5 exclusives, including one that was amazing on launch day. It had nothing to do with incremental hardware launches and everything to do with having software that exploited new hardware to the fullest.

There’s a lot of outrage over Sony supporting last-gen. Why wouldn’t they? Last gen has a huge and active install base and current gen will take a while for market saturation... about 3 years. We’re almost one year in.

Xbox One S launched at $299 and is still in production. Xbox One S Digital Edition launched at $249 and never had an official price cut before it was discontinued In July 2020.

They don't drop the prices that low any more. Sorry.

Err, both the xbox one s and digital were on for $199 multiple times during peak sales periods such as black Friday. Same with ps4. So your statement is completely wrong.

3 years of transition? I will be tired of PS5 in 3 years. I dislike these 5 to 7 years console generations. It's soooooo sloooow.

It's mostly Multiplats and other games that make sense on PS4. Sony will continue making PS5-only games with all the risk of smaller player base exposure to drive more gamers to migrate to PS5 fast.

So it's OK that Sony is going deep into this generation with a 8 year old machine but a machine with 3-4 times it's power is somehow "killing next gen"? I think its time for people to drastically drop that silly position.

Holiday sales aren't the same as permanent price cuts.

Holiday and periodic sales represent a very large portion of console sales, so yes they count, some would say even more than the regular price. What was being stated was the seties s would never be cheaper, that's flat out wrong.

the ps4 is still a beast for sony and i dont expect it to be fully abandoned for another 2 years. nearly 120m install base. the thing is, spiderman miles morales, horizon 2 and even god of war ragnarok started development as ps4 games. you cant expect them to just scrap the ps4 version and release on a ps5 with no stock and a small install base. its more a business thing to use cross gen in the early part of the generation until you got a decent install base and good supply. sony have a good mix of cross gen and ps5 only. i expect them to move god of war to ps5 only too. they would have already announced a ps4 version if there was gonna be one.

In a recent interview with AV Watch, Sony Interactive Entertainment Vice President Hideaki Nishino confirms the PS4-to-PS5 transition period should last around 3 years. During that time Sony will release a mix of next-gen exclusives and cross-gen releases

"The current assumption is that the transition from PS4 to PS5 will take about three years. In the meantime, how can I keep buying games on PS4? Can the purchased games be played on PS5? That is important. At a certain time, we ask developers to develop on the premise of "cross generation" of PS4 and PS5. Of course, we also need to improve the library to make it easier."
I told you guys, it was still early for the Next Gen and PS4 gives for more, but there are many people to have the PS5 without really Next Gen games.

I hope to get the PS5 in 2022 As I said before.

This pleases me. That's where the Sony gaming population is.
People want PS5 exclusives just to justify the excessive amount of money they've spent clearly too hastily.
And I'm here for the drama.
Gimme more PS4 games.
Excessive amount of money 🤣🤣🤣. 399 dollars for epic hardware... excessive amounts of money is what one would pay for a single 3080 card with which on its own you can do absolutely nothing.

Yeah, I bought my PS4 with spiderman. I think it was a Walmart deal in 2018 for $199 and spiderman had just released like 2 months prior so at the end my PS4 costed me 140 lol.

Some People here should relax. Why should Sony throw away 130 million PS4 players and they also have the right to be supported. They are not second class gamers only because you have the newer version of their console.Sony is doing the right and best thing, they are supporting PS5 with exclusives from the get go and the cross gen Titels are best played with better graphics on PS5.This way everyone is or should be happy PS4 and PS5 gamers. What Jim meant with we believe in generations is exsactly what Sony was always doing exclusives for newest console but older one won’t be left behind immediately. It would be extremely unfair for PS4 players when Sony would forget them as soon as the newest console would be out.Like i said everyone should relax PS5 gets lots of exclusives and the best versions to play.

Lol
Which exclusives are those?
Returnal and Ratchet and Clank are both PS5 exclusives in 2021 as is Gran Turismo 7 and Final Fantasy 16 in 2022 so.........

Now is the time for valve to try PC in a console shell again with disc drive for $399. But only to play games on and offline.

Bam, Valve is back.

has been asked to post in 'Grounded' mode.
This is fucking gold after what we saw from the run up to launch. This is even more of a longer timeline than what MS shared!
They're still making next gen exclusives though, we had one at launch, a 2nd one weeks ago and another is coming on June 11th

Agree. But you still payed 399$ for what has been, up to around 2 weeks ago, a Demon's Souls machine.
Not to count scalpers and people who payed north of 600$ for powerful hardware with no software.
And now they scream at cross gen games, to my endless amusement.

They tried to take the ps3 store down and got fucking crucified. Of course their gonna support ps4 with brand exclusives. Especially because Horizon was originally announced during the ps4 era. Development started on the PS4. I don’t think any game that had an announcement during the PlayStation 4 era won’t end up on PlayStation 4 as well. God of war Ragnarok wasn’t announced, I think it’ll be PS5 exclusive because it likely started development on the PS5 to begin with. But I don’t think any game that they’ve talked about while PS4 was the primary console will be exclusive to PS5. I’m really not seeing the huge issue. There are a ton of first party studios and plenty of games will be ground up PS5 during the next 2 years.
3 years is a while for sure, but we are already a year in. (Assuming he’s meaning 3 years from the PS5 launch)

The transition taking 3 years makes sense.....it will be that long before the majority can find and buy a PS5 easily anyway.

Maybe for you. I enjoyed a lot of stuff on it already, DS, Returnal, MM, Astro and many 60fps upgraded ps4 games and just my old games which all run better. It’s worth it for me if it’d be 600 dollars, but it’s not really fair to put scalpers in your reasoning as that has nothing to do with the official prices and all.

Sounds like some will still be cross gen but of course others won't like Returnal and rachet and clank. Sucks to hear, as I want them to really take advantage of the ps5 features, hopefully not many major games.
However seeing horizon cross gen has eased some of my worries.

Did they say whether the next God of War is crossplatform as well? It would be odd to not include it on ps4.

Isn't GOW4 Sony's best selling PS4 exclusive, like 20M units? So they can either A) use it as a PS5 exclusive to encourage people into PS5, but then again, as we all know isn't needed as the cosoles sell out immediately anyway, or B) capitalize on that 20M fanbase. I personally think it's gonna be the latter, unless the game will be designed around SSD like Ratchet.
