What's been your experience tracking down a PS5?

So I love games and though I feel super lucky to have an Xbox Series X and a high end PC (Ryzen 5800x, EVGA 3080 FTW Ultra) I still do not have a PS5.

It's eating at me. :messenger_grimmacing_

I'm following a bot on youtube and discord to try and land one but so far no luck.

I would like to complete my gaming utopia and so I'm looking for a consensus on how you guys were able to get yours. Did you get it through PS5 queue on the main site?

Were you able to get it in store? Are there any tips and tricks to beat the bots and scalpers that I may not know about?

I got two at launch and sold one to a friend as he wasn't able to order.

Someone shared a backdoor link on Amazon, and the other was through Target.

It's very, very hard to find in the US. Stock is depleted within seconds online and I haven't seen it in retail stores at all for purchase (walk-in).

The same applies for XBOX Series however I already have an S. It seems both platforms are in high demand, even the gaming section at my local Best Buy BARELY has any physical games or accessories for purchase for BOTH platforms. It's bizarre.

First links in the UK went faster than I could load the page. Used stockinformer alerts and snagged one a few days later. Opened that bitch up day 1.

I was able to pick up a Series X in store at Walmart in December. As for the PS5, I keep a look out, but have not seen either model in the wild yet. It really sucks, but it may be a couple of years before they are available to point that you can walk in and pick it up off the shelf.

Basically I joined a discord server that was advertised in the comment section of "find stock" website. I believe this is your best bet. Up to date information and people all crowdsourcing and scouring the web for any information. It was a little intense but I got all the next gen consoles this way.

Additionally, make sure that you have accounts with payment information of all possible website where you can preorder PS5's from. That way you can "add to cart" and quickly purchase without having to enter information at the time of purchase.

Tried in the UK on one of the initial stock drops - got in to the queue in Curry’s quite quickly but the website was crashing and acting up and didn’t have any PS5 at all, despite the fact that they should have had stock. Rejoined the queue and was like number 20k so gave up. Read everyone’s experience on Hotukdeals and every single website was freezing/crashing at check out etc.

CBA with scalpers or playing this game. Happy to wait and hopefully pick up the digital this winter with Ratchet and Clank, Returnal and hopefully Horizon Forbidden West.

I know you don't want to hear it but two at launch. One for me and one for my daughter. It took some staying up late but I managed to snag them before the bits got as popular as they are now.

I was able to get 2 PS5's at launch. Mainly I had all the websites opened on the PS5 page and I followed Wario64 on Twitter. He would announce when the console goes on sale across a myriad of different retailers and I would instantly go and refresh and try to check out as fast as I could.

Tips:
Make sure you're already logged into the website.
Make sure you have a credit card/debit card already linked and ready to go.
Remove security validation to check out (mainly for this transaction because sometimes their systems get clobbered, and you may not receive the security code on phone or email depending on your set-up to check out in time.)

Good luck.

Your bot idea is good. Thats what I used. Its a bot that checks for stock, not to auto buy stock. The streamer even said he suspects scalpers are using his stream, lol.

I think the streamer, whoever runs the bot, etc. needs to be good at updating and posting links when stock is available. And have a decent alarm.

Twitch stream, Discord seems to be better for me vs Twitter notifications.

Got 2 at launch and had many opportunity's to get more since then. Had an amazon one in my basket a week or so ago. Decided i don't need another and don't want to scalp.

its easy if you follow the right people on twitter.

Anyone got any advice for someone who doesn’t have Twitter or social media for getting quick stock alerts?

Bought a Gamestop bundle at launch and got back door Amazon link to sell to my friend. I'd imagine in time it will get easier to find but it could take a while. FOMO is real but the longer you wait the better some bugs and build issues will get resolved. Cold storage was just added and if you wait long enough they will enable the NVME bay as well. Waiting will only benefit you.

I’ve gotten 8 overall.

Kept 1 for myself, sold 6 at retail + 25 to family and friends and yesterday I actually flipped one from the target drop to someone who wanted to blow their stimmy for 900.

I’ve just been lucky with the PS5

According to this he was aware of the Gamestop drop.

This is the US. Antonline bundles are way too expensive. And expect to see more bundles vs plain consoles. It checks lots of stores in the US and PS Direct. And MS site.

Its for both PS5 and Series consoles. Costco and Sam's bundles are not too bad, just an extra controller for the most part. Game Stop...I havent checked in awhile but I think their bundles might be too high too.

I have posted this twitch stream so many times, lol. The alarm is annoying and loud.

My experience:

Good to great. I had numerous times for both a PS5 and XSX, and numerous times it was my own mistakes that made me miss out. One time got thru PS Direct but my bank declined it, lol. I moved and forgot to update my address. Previous card uses were fine until I tried it for the PS5.

He also have tips for having better odds with PS Direct. Something with incognito tabs.

Agree with the post about having accounts at sites that have consoles (Best Buy, Amazon, etc) and maybe look into using form fillers. A one click solution for filling out address and payment info.

Had I known it would be this hard to hunt down a PS5 or Series X I would have pre-ordered. My preference is a Series X and I had planned to wait for the Slimlime revision to get a PS5, but I'm thinking I may get one when I can just for the convenience of playing my PS4 backlog on it.

I have been using the hotstock app to let me know when they are in stock. Had a chance to grab a PS5 yesterday because of that app but I hesitated and missed out on it.

I got mine via Walmart's website sometime in late December/early January. At least at the time, they were releasing them in tranches every 10-15 minutes so if you missed your shot you could try again a couple of times. They also seemed to be good at keeping out bots. Not sure if they're still doing that.

You have to be committed. If you really wanted a PS5, you'd have one by now. I was early to the game with the Series X and still wasn't able to get one during the summer pre-order. I foolishly thought I could get one through All Access but no retailers were doing All Access for launch so I missed out.

But I logged on to Walmart.com and every day since launch I refreshed the page at random intervals until the Series X came in stock and then I went through the process. Missed it multiple times to scalpers, but during one refresh I was able to order it. I had it delivered to my doorstep two days before Christmas.

I wanted it. To be fair, I work in IT so I'm on a computer all day long so it was easier than someone who doesn't have that situation. But that's what it takes. Back in 2005 when we had to go to the store for everything, I did the same thing for an Xbox 360. Every morning at 8 AM I went to Target until one day I saw a 360 in the case.

You have to really want it and do what it takes. In both of those examples I struck out dozens of times before I landed one.

I haven't gone out of my way for it.

I'm embracing the one to two years wait (from the time of this post) to get one without hunting. I'll live.

Walmart is tricky unless you know what to do. The key is to keep refreshing even after it says "Out of stock" because you'll may eventually refresh right as they push out a new batch. Have your credit card info already in there and memorize your CSC and get it in as fast as you can. The PS5 really isn't out of stock until it says "Not available" or Walmart pulls the page. Just keep refreshing.

I got one from Walmart back in December. Used the same Discord server that allowed me to score a 3080 in November.

Instead of waiting I've ordered my Xbox Series X in advanced from Smyth Toys via Klarma. I couldn't be bothered waiting. It seems they have them in stock if you order it by using Klarma.

Have your retailers page up and just keep refreshing ever so often at whatever interval you decide. It can be every hour or at certain times per day. If you're waiting for someone to post it on Twitter, you're already late. You want to be the guy that posts it to Twitter.

Piece of piss. Walked in to a Game store off of the high street when they were taking P£5 preorders and paid my deposit, then picked it up the day of launch.

I gave up in December of last year. Now I'm gonna wait until stock is not a problem anymore so I can buy a PS5 without having to get into Discord groups and all that shit.

Got one the day preorders went live. Then got another on release day. Scalped the first one for basically double to get a free PS5. No shame. Best buy preorder and amazon on release day.

As someone in the US trying to get the DE, its fucking annoyingly hard to find. Never in stock anywhere near me or when it is, long queues and then no luck.

I'll get one this year.. eventually.

Very successful. Walmart did screw up one of my launch units and that was a bit frustrating.

Other than that, it has been good.

in a word, bad. I've only actively tried to snag a console a handful of times, where someone on twitter has a tip that a drop is coming and I keep refreshing to try to get one.

something always goes wrong. the sites are just not built to handle the spike in traffic. I actually managed to get one in my cart yesterday when Target had some supply, but the site wouldn't load my credit card information at checkout (even though I had pre-entered it). Once my card information finally went in, the console was gone.

it's just a video game console, so whatever. but I wish retailers would just make it a lottery when desirable items drop. it's better than forcing customers to waste their whole day refreshing a screen and trying to beat the scalper bots

Walked into Game Stop the day of the Sony conference in which Walmart started selling pre-orders and Game Stop has the console in their System. I politely asked for one physical disc version of PS5 and they let me order it.

Honestly the easiest console I ever got to date. No waiting in line, no fighting other angry hoards of people.

Best Demons Souls purchase I ever made.
