I liked your Demon's Souls thread. Looking forward to it.

You must forgive the Sony faithful. I think they've had a hard few months. They really need this right now.

I'm not a "Sony faithful" at all, but the PS5 is some of the most fun I've ever had with a launch console, and I've been gaming since being a tiny kid in the 80s.

The PS5 is bad ass, and these few months have been glorious. 🤷‍♂️

It was impressive 8 years ago. This Ratchet stuff is lightyears ahead of it, man.

Agree to disagree then because I feel only someone who seriously didn't play through that game's campaign could actually say this with a straight face. It was a monstrous visual accomplishment even by today's standards. The two games also don't even seriously merit a comparison based on their vastly differing visual styles. Ratchet is a monstrous benchmark, but when a game looks as good as Ryse did/does even one as impressive as this can never make it look unimpressive.

This game looks so damn good. I just recently got the plat on ratchet and clank PS4, and that game was pure fun from start to finish. I am so excited for this new one. Going to be a big hit I think!

CGI is still computer generated images, so technically yes, it's CGI.

But the point is, it's not comparable with gameplay shots, and anyone believing that are in for a disappointment. Sony are experts at this - just look at the Horizon trailer. Seamless blending between small gameplay clips and longer cutscenes. It works, and it gets people hyped. It's the same story with this trailer. Blending small gameplay snippets with longer cutscene clips. The cutscenes might be running at real-time, but as we all know, there's a gargantuan difference between rendering real-time gameplay and real-time cutscenes.
While cinematic use a different rendering budget being able to frame the scene and allocate assets to what is visible only and nothing else; it is the hope that the ssd allows for such fast asset swaps that the cinematic and gameplay are practically seamless. This is the next gen promise.

Did Sony increase news? Everyday it's something it seems. This looks incredible and maybe the best next gen game ive seen.
Honestly, we've had a fairly good stream of news regarding PS5 and PlayStation in general for awhile now. It's just that some people get really picky and choosey over what qualifies as worthy news. Some weeks were lighter than others for sure but people were also expecting Sony to immediately follow up a news story from their competitors with one of their own. Like when Sony became an owner of EVO, the biggest fighting game tournament in the world, that was fairly substantial news but since it wasn't them buying a studio during all the Zenimax talk it was disregarded by many as rubbish. Yet as others pointed out, it was only a matter of time before some PlayStation games started coming into the spotlight and people would suddenly forget what they were so upset about. Returnal has been enjoying a build up of excitement, after spending so long being ignored and ridiculed, and now Ratchet & Clank is dropping jaws again.

Ryse was really impressive. It's one of those cases that a launch game stays relevant until the very end of the generation.

The graphics techniques used so long ago is being reused now. So your comment has merit.

They didn't over analyse the previous gen games either. That's the point, you hear crickets when it comes to MS games from them, past or present. Those critical eyes becomes conviently blurry when Xbox is involved.
Thats because Xbox exclusives games haven't been as impressive or as numerous as PlayStations.

Crackdown 3 was garbage.
State of Decay was a buggy mess.
Gears looked good.
Sea of thieves had nice water, but barron at launch.
Forza horizon looks great on One X.

Clever trick of the developer with heavy use of high quality Depth of fields, motion blur and film grains, are the culprit of why people often think that this trailer looks like pixar movies. Yes they do look alike for some frames in cinematic but definitely not during gameplay. Pixar movies uses fully path tracing Global illumination for everything in the scene, it takes several hours to render a single frame, which is impossible to run on PS5 in real time.
Nonetheless, this game's visual looks jaw droppingly awesome.
Day one for me.

Agreed, it’s more Dreamworks level.

bUt wHaT aBoUt dUh tEcH dEmO

I mean, it’s no UE5 demo, that is Zilla vs Kong level.

🤭

Pixar have not put out a decent movie since Toy Story 3 and the woke transition started.

Pre woke :

Toy Story
Monsters Inc
WALL-E
Incredibles

Post woke and the firing of Lasseter for giving hugs :

Inside Out
Brave
Soul
Onward

Dreamworks however have been killing it recently.

no stop it!
it does not look pixar level, dreamworks level or sony picture level

it looks like R&C level on a new console generation :messenger_persevering:

Its the closest video game we have ever seen to a high quality animated movie. Its a true next gen title.

If MS had the forethought, organizational management and ambition to make a next gen only game that looked like this you'd be sitting in a pool of your own paste singing its praises from the rooftops.

no tbh, im not fond of R&C artstyle+engine. technically it floats the scene with low quality debris and uses simple surface materials & textures

i was hoping to see some kind of path tracing applied across the board, if we are to meet the hyperbole of pixar quality, but the lighting looks far behind still.

but tbf the series was born in ps2 days, where its strength lies in simple texturing and high density but low quality particles/triangles effects. so there's to keeping to it's roots 🤷‍♀️
