Phil Spencer confirms that some new future Bethesda titles will be Xbox and PC exclusive

I don't think its vague at all.

Do you think they are going to say Bethesda will be fully exclusive from now? They are still making Doom 3 PSVR, Ghostwire and Deathloop. And lord knows what else they have that was signed as multiplatform long ago (Indiana Jones?).
If that is the case, it wouldn't have taken any extra effort on their part to clarify that.

Some games will release on other platforms, absolutely.

That statement means Elder Scrolls Online and other games of it's type will continue to release on all platforms. It means perhaps games that are already well into development on other platforms like Doom PSVR will not get shit-canned. It also means mobile games will continue to release on mobile from the mobile studios acquired with Bethesda.

BTW, if the above image triggers you somehow, you really should take a break.

What has changed since 7 years ago?

Funny, it's not like these games wouldn't have been released on Xbox anyway.

So atm, nothing has changed. The only thing that has changed is that these games will be on GP.

These are the least likely to be multiplatform.
The only thing I can see Playstation getting beyond what's already announced/agreed to go there are any small budget, indie-esque projects that might need broader reach to be successful and maybe any future MMO's.

Putting heavy hitters like TES6 on PS5 will not help the Xbox brand or GamePass grow. PS5 owners have no reason to get a Xbox and GP if they can get TES6 for $70 on PS5. If Xbox wants to make that $49 from PS then they might as well put Halo, Forza and Gears on PS5 right now.

I hear what you're saying -- the only difference in my mind is that Halo/Forza/Gears are already exclusive. MS have done quite a good job (in my opinion) about garnering good will with the gaming community the last few years. They had a pretty massive mis-step with the Gold shit, but they changed course quickly.

I think they look at Elder Scrolls, Doom, Fallout, etc as "we can get a lot of goodwill from gamers in general, and still get that $49 per game times millions of users who don't have an xbox"

If you've got users who are dead-set on not buying an Xbox, why leave that money on the table? -- I understand MS also has exclusives, so it's not like they'd do this with ALL their properties, but again, I think historically multiplat games will remain multiplat.

If they want to make a big statement they should make all Bethesda games exclusive.

Instead they just seem so indecisive. Just like Kinect, don't know what to do with the thing, instead half in / half out.

Exactly. It’s wording confused on purpose.

If MS had ALL Bethesda single player games fully exclusive they would let it be known in this very statement bragging about Bethesda joining Xbox.

I mean doing this is simple-

“Starting today games like Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6 will be Xbox/PC exclusives with day one gamepass availability”

But no, all we get is “some”
Wow, are you for real?

Why the fuck would they announce Starfield or TES6 exclusivity in a fucking blog post? They will do it on a live stage after a gameplay trailer for maximum effect. People expecting exclusivity for games in a blog post must be living on another planet.

Yes? Because Ghostwire and Deathloop exist. So does ESO and F76. All those are on other consoles.

If the only ones coming to other consoles were those ones, they'd just have said that.

It's deliberately vague because they want to hold out the possibility of the biggest stuff being exclusive as long as they can, but the reality is "some", in PR speak, means the odd one here and there.

Imagine if they announce both of those games going full exclusive, fanboy denial will be in full swing and the "well will be shit games anyway so im not missing out"

just let devs make new games and show us new games , all i need, just gives us new games, doesnt matter who owns who, who makes what, just stop making crap and make great games and more of them.

Its deliberately vague because announcing exclusivity for massive games in a blog post is incredibly retarded. They will wait for an event. Kind of like, you know, e3 which is coincidentally in a few months.

Some new games excluding Ghostwire Tokyo and Deathloop. Like we all knew from the beginning. Told you.
That isn't what that means at all. Just your assumption. I'd be careful about the "Told you" statements right now. In fact don't be surprised if Starfield comes to PS5 especially if they were already far in development of it.

What a colossal fuck up for Xbox on the messaging front. Imagine someone trying to explain why the Xbox is worth buying.

"Well it has Halo, Forza, and some Bethesda games"

"Some? Like what?"

"Well, I dunno really. Guess it depends."

PS stans: "This means TES6, Starfield and Fallout will be multiplat and MMO will be exclusive"
Xbox stans: "This means MMO will be multiplat and TES6, Starfield and Fallout will be exclusive"

They know what they are doing with that wording
Maybe, but only one of those statements makes sense business wise.

(it's the second statement, of course)

Thanks Phil for Clearing absolutely nothing up what so ever!!

What I really want to know is if Starfield or Elder Scrolls 6 VI are going to be exclusive.

I've been waiting to decide which console to buy and now the choice is still not clear...

??? The one thing we know for sure is that Xbox has all the Bethesda games going forward, that has been a given all along. What we don't know is what, if any, future titles Sony will also have.

Right now there are more exclusive Bethesda titles announced for the PS5 than there are on Xbox. It's absolutely terrible optics.

That's just your wishful thinking. They didn't need to say ANYTHING about exclusivity in that post, did they? Couldn't they have left the subject for a later date, if communicating via a blog post is "incredibly retarded"?

The fact is all they've confirmed so far is that some future games will be exclusive. That could mean 2 minor titles, or it could mean all major titles. There's really nothing else that can reliably be said. But the restraint of the term "some" implies to me that it's unlikely to mean all the big games without exception.

They lack the confidence that Sony has, which is understandable when you factor in how bad the Xbox one did compared to the 360.

They are basically “leaving the door open with that statement” which is weak imo.

They just spent a billion dollars, they should let their nuts hang and make these titles exclusives, show some confidence in your console..... 😆

There is so much salt. Why is anyone surprised that MS would use an acquisition like this to finally bolster its first party offerings which people have been complaining about for years? You don't just spend $7.5 billion to get the ability to publish games on your competitors' platforms.
Read the room. There are just as many Xbox fans annoyed here because we still have no idea if it’s actually some substantial games that are exclusive that could potentially grow the platform or if it’s just The Elder Scrolls Blades and Fallout Shelter or whatever minor game they have lying around.

They need to stop using this vague shit PR, it doesn’t help them or the users in any way.

I agree with you that E3 (if it happens) would have more media coverage based on non-enthusiast media taking note. But why would they give up potential sales in hopes of making a splash before people buy consoles in the next few months? Once someone locks into an eco-system, its harder to get them to switch with so many digital purchases occurring these days. And regarding the disparaging note about blog posts, MS recent history suggests they completely disagree with you. I'm pretty sure E3 was not going on in December 2019. https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2019/12/12/microsoft-unveils-xbox-series-x/

Big missed opportunity right here.

Imagine announcing the finalization of the sale with this big bang:

- Starfield Exclusive on XBox and PC
- Elder Scrolls 6 Exclusive on Xbox and PC
- Fallout 6 exclusive on Xbox and PC
- Doom 6 Exclusive on Xbox and PC

I mean that would convince millions to pick up an xbox over the ps5 in the crucial next few months as many hardcore gamers decide which console to get first. This wouldve been the perfect oppurtunity to convince people that xbox is THE place to play the best RPGs. It would directly pit them against the Action Adventure Sony titles and who knows who wins out that battle. I think Bethesda RPGs are far more popular than Sony exclusives so this couldve really changed some minds. Especially now that they arent really fighting bad press over kinect and always online.

Oh well. Exclusives seem to be a thing of the past looking at Sony's latest moves to PC. I guess no one really wants to win and the war and everyone is just content with sharing the piece of the pie. Not the worst scenario tbh.

Please tell us how many AAA games from platform holders get announced in blog posts. This isn't an indie game. They won't commit to what is and isn't exclusive until trailers start dropping and only Xbox logos are visible at the end.

E3 is in a few months. Consoles are supply constrained anyways. I don't see why they would need to send some big message out now.

This way keeps people speculating until May/June.

I know people refuse to believe this, but MS isn't in the console selling business anymore. If you have a PS5, MS can still get your business, they just have to make you subscribe to Gamepass.

Games that’s not even close to finish will probably be Xbox/PC only what’s soo hard to understand? You probably gotta get a good PC or buy an Xbox for the new ES6. Not a big deal.

I guess some would say it's no different to the Sony threads which get overrun with fanboys and all kinds of FUD.. I mean have you seen a BC thread lately when Xbox wins? Or the discussions about RDNA2.

Par for the course around here.

It's not worth getting emotional about it though.

They need you to fund the game on gamepass.
Id rather have you pay for the development of my MP experiences.
So an early thank you is in order.

You'd think Microsoft would throw their base a bone. Give them something to latch onto, but nope. Back to vague, nothing statements while PS5 has actual exclusive Bethesda titles announced for their platform. Undeniably horrific PR.

Of course people don't believe MS left the console business, because they absolutely still are manufacturing and selling consoles.

They just released not one but two next gen consoles. I hate to be rude to you since I respect you as a poster, but this is a ridiculous thing to say.

Gamepass will never be on Playstation so they cant get your business unless you buy their game and they get their 70% cut after Sony takes their 30% digital cut.
