Building the best hardware, GPU, xCloud and BC through VM.
Zenimax buyout cements that vision. Seems more consolidation to come.
You just cant convine Satya Nadella to open the warchest, without substance behind it.

Why even bring Playstation into the conversation? MS failures to deliver all these years are on them alone. What does PS5 have to do with Xbox's future? Sony is delivering right now and have been delivering for years both in games and accolades and they pretty much dominate the console market based on their own merit.

To each their own but for me, Xbox Series X is the better long term choice for various reasons while PlayStation 5 is just for their exclusives. Currently, I have 9 announced first party exclusives for Xbox Series X and 4 announced first party exclusives for PlayStation 5. Just overall better value with Xbox Series X and if Microsoft/Ubisoft work out a deal to add UPlay to Game Pass, oh man, even better, especially for me. Either way, it's going to be an amazing generation!!

What are they really basing this on though? Gamepass? New studios? Long term plans? Future games? Promises? Backwards compatibility? Gamepass and backwards compatibility is already on the XBox One. Did it honestly help? One thing I wonder about is how good will these newly acquired studio’s games be and will it really drastically increase the appeal of the XSX like people are predicting? Bethesda will be a bump, but I don’t think it will be enough to really damage the competition.
We know Sony and Nintendo can consistently create great and compelling software, but can these new Microsoft studios make the XSX a better investment than the PS5 in the long term? Too many questions and uncertainties to determine that the XSX will be the better console in the long term imho. More studios and games does not equate to better software. The brand also had a shortage of studios and teams. They are investing billions to fix that problem. Hard to release a ton of games with 4-5 studios and little budget to buy exclusives.

Phil has been the head of Xbox since 2014. It's already been a long haul.
This is the guy that was excited about Halo Infinite before that disastrous reveal. The guy that has no real exclusive games hitting his next-gen console until 2022! Maybe Halo makes it, but it's not going to go from what it was to an "award winner" in under 12 months.
The Zenimax purchase is basically desperation at still not having enough going. It's been all talk, talk, talk. For like 7 years now!
How in the heck can anyone think this guy knows what he is doing at this point and that he is playing some secret master game of chess? Good software is very hard to make. The way he has been handling Xbox is the way he will handle Xbox.
It's just all talk, smoke, and mirrors at this point. If you want to see the division improve you should be calling for him to be removed and get someone in there who actually understands the medium. It's plain embarrassing at this point.

Funny, Xbox is the one console that is decidedly the only one I will not own thanks to Game Pass for PC. Sony's exclusives are top-tier and MS doesn't really have anything that can compete outside of Forza. Nintendo does Nintendo things, and if you want it you're buying their console. MS is bringing the exclusives they do have to PC for free with Game Pass. Absolutely no reason to own an Xbox, and I say that as a hardcore Xbox fanboy for Gen 6 + 7.

Sony could not go into a bidding war with Microsoft to get Bethesda. Like Phil said, they are not our competition. Microsoft started last gen with like 8 studios and now look at how they ended the gen. Xbox generating more revenue in history, 23 studios, Game Pass Digital Gaming Service and X Cloud Streaming. Xbox is now the largest gaming company in the world. Microsoft killed it last gen and still have not really gotten serious yet, alot more is coming. Sony did good too, they sold PS4s.

Yeah this is where I'm at too. Nothing to play on either system so why even bother buying?
Perhaps Holiday 2021 will give us more reason to buy but if COVID fucks with us for another 6 months (ie before vaccination is complete) we'll probably have another year of fucking nothing.

If you don't want to game on PC, primarily play 3rd party software, and you also value backwards compatibility with previous Xbox consoles, it's kind of a no brainer. Otherwise, I don't really see the point.

Microsoft has no problem with this as long as you are using a Windows based PC which everybody does anyway. Also dont forget to check out PC Game Pass.

This really is a good question. I bought both and finished Sockboy and Demon Souls by the end of Nov and those imo were the only two exclusives worth buying. Since then I'm been revisiting games via BC on the XSX and of course Cyberpunk and haven't even touched my PS5. Let's not pretend that it's not in the midst of a software drought itself and that the BC capabilities of the XSX give it slightly more legs right now. Sure that will change once tons of next gen stuff starts to hit but that will not be for months and until then the XSX does have a edge in what it offers right now

ESO is great, people like Doom but I'm not really a fan, same with the newer Wolfensteins. Fallout 76 was not as bad as people made it out to be. The lore was fantastic, but launching with 0 NPCs besides some robot was a horrible decision. I loved my time with it (played for like 3 months after it came out) and recently tried it again. After playing silky smooth games like Spiderman, Forza Horizon 4, CoD Cold War, Demon Souls, etc it's certainly rough going back to it.
I'd say their best game since Skyrim has been Fallout 4 besides ESO. But yeah actually looking at the list it isn't too great compared to some other companies lol
