Jim Ryan and the denigration of Playstation.

As we know, Playstation has been a brand where it has had many games, especially original and unique games.

These times have unfortunately changed since this nefarious man named Jim Ryan arrived.

This idiot is not interested in the Japanese market, nor its productions, he has completely destroyed such a wonderful studio as Japan Studio, he has turned Playstation games into Hollywood products, with a denigration in the sagas, productions that have put the SWJ , where wonderful games like The last of us, have been decayed in a sequel that is not up to the first game.

The decadent way in which he treats Japanese productions, not to say discriminatory, the fact of censoring Japanese games for nonsense, but respecting the rawness of animal cruelty in The last of us Part II, as well as its sexual scenes, this wants say the great denigration it has towards the free artistic style of Japanese productions.

This stupid Jim Ryan has made dire decisions, launching the ps5 console in times of pandemic where not only does it not have games that sell consoles, but there are also no Next-Gen productions, and the limited availability of consoles that exist.

Poor hardware quality on PS5 where there have been problems with yellow cases on some models or freezes.

Total repudiation of this person for his foolish decisions

Yawn. He didn't come into power until 2018 I believe? I don't think he's directly to blame for a lot of the issues you're referring to.

I think the most destructive thing he's doing it his $70 stingy pricing on games and pc ports.

I think you’re reaching a bit here. There are many factors at play here. COVID-19, studio changes, and just the hardships of launching next gen consoles during a worldwide pandemic are just some of the challenges the industry is facing.

I’m not saying Jim is perfect or even “good” , but blaming him for all these bumps in the road is a bit overkill.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
You thought too much about it OP. Just don't buy the console like the rest of us bitter ex-sony lads.

With that said this gen has just begun. Who knows, maybe they really start focusing on japanese titles again. Because yeah, maybe japanese people are not so focused into consoles but there is still a market in the west for japanese styled games.

After many years leading Sony’s gaming operations in Europe, Ryan assumed leadership at SIE in early 2019, when PlayStation’s domination of the last console generation was undeniable, having shipped nearly 100 million PlayStation 4 units (now over 112 million as of August 2020) with exclusive games consistently topping year-end lists and selling well (July 2020’s “Ghost of Tsushima” has sold over 5 million units since launch). The success of 2018’s “Marvel’s Spider-Man” was so vast that developer Insomniac became the latest addition to SIE Worldwide Studios, with follow-up game “Miles Morales” leading the launch titles for PlayStation 5’s November release. Now, it’s Ryan’s job to guarantee another generational win for PlayStation as he works on updating the PSVR headset and adding subscribers to PlayStation Now in order to better compete with Xbox Game Pass, but the PS5 is off to an exceptional start already, reportedly nabbing the highest domestic unit and dollar sales for a launch month of any gaming console in history (per the NPD Group).

Yeah the $70/£60 thing is annoying, I hope prices go down 10 bucks in time. PC ports I think is overblown as there's been so few. It's not like with Xbox where if you have a gaming there's no point in owning the console.
Why should they be fussed about Japan?

The market has switched to handheld gaming and Nintendo is absolutely rampant. Case closed.

Surely he's doing the smart thing focussing on Europe and US.
Agreed, it's just not economically viable to spend big money on games that only really do well in one country. The tastes there are very specific in the main, the US and Europe are more important markets, and home to the majority of top developers. That said we'll see some low and mid-budget games targeted toward Japan this generation.

What does SWJ mean? And, how was TLOU2 inferior to the first? It is markedly better in every respect. Did you not see the reception to Demons Souls? Have you forgotten the FFXVI reveal? Or that Silent Hill is in development? The bellyaching over Japan Studio losing a producer is concern trolling to the fullest.

Seems Jim Ryan doesn't care unless games sell 4-5 mils atleast, i love the PS blockbusters but i also like the smaller games like The Last Guardian, Gravity Rush etc.... and it seems we'll be getting less of those, a shame but

Gravity Rush was average and people didn't care enough to buy it. You should get over it at some point, we all like games that weren't successful, or even good.
Gravity Rush 2 was pretty good tbh, but neither games were masterpieces and I'm glad Toyama is diving into horror again with his next title.

I want to know if these external dev teams being set up by people leaving will still have a relationship with Sony via whatever Shuhei Yoshida is doing now.

Change happens. Key developers leave and markets shift. Can't blame it all on this guy. The only thing I'd like to see in the future from Sony/Microsoft is using their subscription model to bring AA style single player games back into the limelight. Create small studios with small(ish) budgets that take more risk with shorter, but highly focused, single player content. Those types of games can't survive in the current $70 console landscape. They can thrive like television shows have on various streaming subscription models, though. At the very least they should be watching whatever pops up on Steam and try to poach games tiny developers make. The high quality ones of course.

You're right. I should have written "not great". Both games certainly have many good things about them, especially the second. They're just not the masterpieces some people here make them out to be.

People always find the need to make things they like and others don't seem like masterpieces when they're not, makes their opinion feel more justified if it's some masterpiece hiding in plain sight.

I did the same with some films in the past, thankfully I've grown from that (as far as I'm aware! 😂)

You know, i would be the first in line to say that fuck Jim but also, none of your issues had anything to do with him. All the last batch of games released had the old management in charge, next year at the earliest we are gonna see the new team management results. This type of things take time.

I am a little worried about playstation Japan tho, but hopefully they can pull through, their lasts games have been hits even if not big productions (team Asobi)

Jim Ryan is doing a great job. PS4 broke many records and PS5 is doing it too, even if had to launch it in the middle of a pandemic.

PS has a ton of awesome games, and this decade most if not all studios released their best games, many of them became GOTY or GOTY candidate material.

Regarding Studio Japan, they are fine: just released two awesome game and this generation released many awesome guys. Sure, a few guys left. But it's normal in all companies, as hiring new ones is too. Games are made by several hundreds of super talented people, one or two of them in a game don't change a lot of things, can be replaced.

I don't get the reason of these childish attacks to the CEO since don't make sense at all, many of them are lies and the other ones aren't related to the CEO.

Japan doesn't give a fuck about playstation anymore.
They want their switches and mobile phones. That's it.

If I was Sony, I'd put way more time and effort emerging markets like India, middle East. That's gonna pay off for you.

Ps5 will sell less than Ps4, and ps6 even less than that.

Most of those issues were there before Ryan. Not seen enough to hate the guy yet. I don't trust him after allowing people to be mislead regarding cross-gen titles, though.

But their output was so low. GR and BB where the only "big" releases. I havent even heard anything about puppeteer.

I dont think they will give up on japan entirely

Maybe they will invest in new jpn talent later on.

Cant let japan die

They just remade a cult classic japanese game (demons souls) and it just might be that they will remake Legend of Dragoon as well. If these games perform well we might see more serious jpn games
