So apparently Cyberpunk 2077 does not have a toggle option for Quality/Performance on the PS5

I was under the impression that this is a PS4 game being played via backwards compatibility. So like Sekiro and Evil Within 2 it just runs at a higher unlocked frame rate.

If you’re looking for “performance” modes waits until next year when the current gen version releases.

There is no "current gen version" though, by which I take to mean full retail release, right? It's just an update patch isn't it?

I'm debating if I even want to play this game at launch or wait a few months. Mostly because of bugs.

My PC (RX 5700XT + 3700X) definitely can't handle this game at 1080P/60/High and up.

So I either wait for the official PS5 upgrade or hope to get my hands on a new Nvidia 3080Ti.

It's unfortunate how unoptimized this game is for the latest and greatest.

That's unknown so far. Presumably it will be a full upgrade to a native PS5 version since there's no smart delivery and two versions of everything on PS5. Rather than a patch going to a native PS5 version requires redownloading the whole thing based on how games like Borderlands 3 work now (i.e. can't copy over PS4 version, or install from disc, and upgrade, have to download entire PS5 version from the store).

My guess is we won't see a retail release of the PS5/XSX versions until both DLCs are out and they do a complete/GOTY type release.

Well I would be pissed if it was a full retail PS5 release, I tried to determine what their plans were before the game came out and I preordered the PS4 version because everything seemed to point to just a patch.

I know for the Series X the next gen update will be free. They already confirmed that. I don’t know why it would be different for PlayStation.

You guys need to forget about that toggle, 30fps is horrible.

Meh. I check on a game by game basis. My eyes have never been that discerning about FPS rates as long as stable. That said, they’re also not that discerning about resolution difference sitting 9-10’ from my 65” TV either.

Thus I usually go for performance if it’s just a resolution boost in graphics mode and graphics mode in something like Miles Morales where I really liked the ray tracing and thought it felt fine at 30fps (shame the new 60FPS RT mode wasn’t there at launch, will check that out if I replay down the road).

No one’s saying it won’t be free for current owners in both. CDPR already confirmed that.

Some, presumably collectors as I don’t care as I’m buying it digitally, are wondering whether they do a printing of that version that ships in PS5/XSX packaging for people who didn’t buy the last gen version (or want to collect PS5/XSX versions).

My guess is there won’t be a physical version of the PS5/XSX version until the inevitable complete/GOTY release after the two DLCs are out.

You will still get the ps5 release for free.

Digitally yeah, if they release a physical copy I'll be pissed that I bought in early.

I'm buying digitally now since the disc is useless since it doesn't have any of the 800 patches that are sure to come. I'll grab a physical PS5 GOTY edition for $10 a few years from now for my physical collection.

Same. Well that and I only buy physical to sell when I’m done and the disc version will likely be worth little buy the time the DLCs are out and I’m done playing them anyway.

So what is a list of the differences that the xbox series x offers with its performance/quality mode over the PS5 version (other than 60fps)? Is it s a higher resolution, is it more effects? Is it nothing and they are the same? We have five pages here and I haven't seen any definitive details other than PS5 is at 60fps.

When they first delayed the game to November, I thought this would be a good thing to play it on a next gen console.

I even bought an OLED TV for this game

Now there are no consoles available, no XSX, no PS5, but even if I had one....
Cyberpunk not having native next gen versions ready at launch is really the biggest fail of all.
Imagine having a PS5 only to play the PS4 version of this game and having to deal with the limitations of 7 year old hardware.
At the very least I would have expected a VERY small updated version at launch with ramped up settings, resolution and the amount of NPCs

I understand a next gen version is coming, some time next year, but who really wants to wait? the game is out there in a few hours

I'm so tired of waiting

Everyone here seems to be happy with that PS5 footage? Am I the only one who thinks this looks nowhere near the potential of that console?

anyway I just bought it on steam, my I7 4770k thought he was retired but he has to work for me one last time! ;)

XSX has it tho
MS tooling allows granular updates to a One game to add partial SX features / hardware support. Sony on the other hand has no "blurry software units", a developer has to literally upload a PS5 version to add true PS5 support.
The most they can do is take the PS4 version and uncap things when it runs on a PS5 (no idea if there's even a proper way to detect that you're not on a PS5 with the SDK on PS4).

That's why most of the "boosted on PS5" Sony games have these weak upgrades / changes and no DualSense etc. support.

People with a PS5/SX are actually going to waste this game by playing the last-gen version? Are you mad? After nearly a decade in development, I'm not touching this game without a 3080 or 3080Ti. At the very least I'd wait for the real SX/PS5 update.
Same here. PC is first option then Next gen consoles.

If its months down the road it sure is relevant. I'll be done with the game and so will millions of others. The patched version will be relevant to those who waited or who aren't able to get a next gen console until next year some time. The game should have been delayed till next year with all of these bugs and no next gen version to be honest.
like most people ? who even has next gen console beside 2-3 million people.

Most people bought witcher 3 years later. It will be fine , and lmao no you wont be done with game considering there will be multiple expansions and multiplayer mode coming

I would suggest anyone who has PS5-XSX to wait but they likely won't lol. It's gonna be light year difference when next gen edition releases next year. NPC count especially change how game look , without NPCs game look barren dead.

Also ray tracing is game changer in this.

Im getting conflicting signals here:

As owner of both ps5 and xsx is the best course of action to just buy it on ps5 even though the current version will be worse due to ps4pro settings but then when the next gen patch comes out it will be better since ps5 > xsx ?

So in quick summary:
PS5 > XSX

I knew getting it for the PS5 was the way to go. Thanks for counting the pixels.

I didn't post a low figure for PS5 but I never saw it go as low as 1080p. Can't be sure since I'm looking at different scenes between the platforms.

Pure gut feeling is it may have the higher average res in perf mode. But both settle around 1200p mostly

DF and other places will have the final say :)

I figured this was worth sharing for those of you on the fence re: what system to purchase it for.

Lots of people have already gotten their hands on it, and it appears that there is no toggle feature for quality vs performance for the PS5. It has been confirmed to exist on the XSX version. This is based on the comments by fellow members in our official Cyberpunk thread, along with posts in the OT for Cyberpunk on that other forum.

Thought this might be thread worthy because this information is sorta buried in our OT and this is the first I'm hearing of it.

edit: to further clarify, PS5 will run in performance mode only

XSX has the option to select performance or quality mode
it's because its running @4k/120fps MAX everything by default, no need you warm toilet seat <3

Was always going with X1X version on Series X, it was always going to be the best console version at launch. No surprise here, One X was a beast of a console.

No such thing as a beast machine with a tablet CPU that was outdated in 2013.

Graphical comparisons between Performance and Quality mode on XSX. I really hope PS5 has a toggle because the traffic & NPC settings in performance are disappointing personally.

The perfromance mode on the XSX version doesn't look anywhere near as smooth as the PS5 version.
Yep plenty of framerate drops on this footage, particularly in the streets. And I agree with you here. All PS5 footage I have watched showed locked 60fps.

I think they added a 30fps mode on XSX because the framerate wasn't stable enough at 60fps. PS5 might not need at 30fps mode because its 60fps mode is stable enough.

The gameplay footage we’ve seen so far on the PS5 matches performance mode on the xsx

which isn’t bad, I’m currently playing with performance mode.

ps5 is not running in quality mode

they broke this down in the OT on the other forum btw

Who would want to play in performance mode when the streets are so barren? I'll take 30fps and quality mode if it means the city looks like it's actually inhabitated.

I posted about my collapse in the OT

tldr: I have a week off work and the official launch trailer made me take the plunge

glad I did

edit: I was starting to get tired of Valhalla so this is a very welcome break

gotta figure a way to fit Yakuza 0 into my playtime

All the footage I have seen so far, I would say the PS5 is running a lot smoother with less dropped frames.
That just means it’s running performance mode more smoothly, which is possible

I was pointing out that the quality mode isn’t available on PS5
