Star Wars: Squadrons to run at 4k/60 and 1440p/60 on Xbox Series X/S, with 120fps modes.

the game will not offer any significant upgrade on PlayStation 5 — while that version will features “improved lighting,” it will run and look like it does on a PlayStation 4 Pro, which runs the game with a dynamic resolution somewhere north of 1440p at 60 fps
"game runs with a dynamics resolution"
"it will run and look like it does on last gen console"

im having trouble accepting both of these statements as fact. if the game is running at dynamic resolution, then wouldn't a power boost inevitably make it look better than a last gen console?

i mean help me out here. just seems like the wrong conclusion to arrive at if it uses dynamic res scaling. if there is more CPU/GPU power, wouldn't you get higher resolution? its not like it is locked.

How can it be BC mode and have improved lighting at the same time?
Framerate and res is capped.
Edit: Mind that is a point. Why have they only done that and nothing else with it? We know the XBox BC automatically ups the resolution and framerate. But we also know that PS5 doesn't unless it's uncapped or patched.
It looks to me that they've done a little bit of work with the lighting on both consoles and called it a day.

Obviously the PS5 can do it if the XSS can, but i wonder why its not though. And no, i dont believe Microsoft paid for exclusive settings in Star Wars Squadrans lol.

I agree that they have not done a lot of things but if the lighting is improved it means they have worked on a patch for the PS5 which means it's not running in BC mode.
It seems more likely they didn't devote enough resources to it. The interesting question here is why they did with XSX

the game is $40? PS5 games cost $70. it's almost half the price of a new game.

because Xbox has no new games, might as well put that money into BC. this also is why they are leaning on Gamepass so heavily. Halo won't even be out for at least another year.

Of course not, the person who took the screenshot highlighted the text via selection. You can't be this uninformed.

Oh! THEY did it and you just happened upon it. Instead of using the one from the article that isn’t highlighted. I see. You weren’t able to take your own screenshot of it without THAT part highlighted. It HAD to be that screenshot. You know you can take screenshots on your phone right? You can’t be that uninformed.

Sure, clearly no one paid anything here.

Pretty sure it's linked to PSVR and lack of VR on Xbox.

It's a lot easier just adding better lighting on psvr versions. Changing res and fps needs a lot of testing on psvr. Like I said, Sony didn't even make PS5 compatibility out of the box for psvr (needs a free adapter) so why would the publishers bother?

Maybe they just upped a setting somewhere. A full patch would probably be work. It's also unneeded on the Xbox so they probably just called it at that. And it'll still be working in BC mode, it;s not a full new upgrade?

They are just running the PS4 code in BC mode on PS5 because if it was a native PS5 game they would have to drop PSVR support. And they figured more people care about VR support than 120 fps mode.

Sounds like the 120hz mode only works thanks to VRR. Suggesting its typically running significantly under target.

Kinda weird there's these PS5 games that are outputting in 1440p but the PS5 doesn't support that resolution.

Nothing, I just masterfully coerced hiks into eksposing himself. Then he sent me the obligatory lol and triggered emoji afterwards signifying his shame. See for yourself, I was able to quote for posterity. ;)
I am not sure if you're serious, or if you're trolling. But I am laughing, that's for sure!

What’s weird is seeing people in an enthusiast forum mix up internal resolution with output resolution. Like... really?

You played your 900p Xbox one games all this time and you don’t have a 900p tv.

So first evidence show power gap between PS5 and seriesX. Expect this with lot of multiplatform games. Series X is a beast
Not for me. There will be some kind of reason behind this. If it was just XSX, then yeah maybe, but the XSS is doing as well, and obviously PS5 is more powerful than XSS.

The comparisons between the launch multiplatform games will be a fairer showing of where the power is.

Well, he’s been embarrassed enough, now you’re pouring it on by laughing at him. That’s not nice, but you have something to smile about today at least.

Ehhhh, it's still 4kish 60 so whatever. My setup can't do 120fps anyway and I don't plan on upgrading any time soon.

Jesus Christ! Now we are in highlight wars?

Does he think the news will magically change if you didn't highlight the text? I don't even understand anymore. 🤪

This does not explain the improved lighting though. It makes no sense

I don't know exactly what they are doing with the lighting stuff, but I know for a fact that this isn't a native PS5 game because PS5 games don't support PSVR. It must be BC mode only.

I don’t think that’s how the ps5 Upgrades works. I think You have to download the ps5 version. You will still have a ps4 version.

Actually thinking about it, it makes sense. The dev team already said they werent doing a 'next gen' version, so the game on XSX and XSS is probably just pure BC, and this is the results. While BC on PS5 needs a patch right?, so i'm guessing they arent doing a patch.

That's only for games that have an actual PS5 version, this game doesn't from the sound of it. It's just the same game as PS4 getting some boosts in BC mode.

For example, Hitman 3 has a PS4 version and a PS5 version. If you want to use PSVR you download the PS4 version, if you want the next-gen enhancements you download the PS5 version.

Calling it now it only a matter of time before MS buy EA it might be next year or 5 year down the line but MS and EA are really close and i think MS will buy EA in the future.

The Xbox version is locked to 60fps, if XSX and XSS is going to 120fps is because they are patching the game for XSX

Regarding the OP, this is strange for sure. I'm curious to the reason behind the difference. I wonder if this game is going to hit EA play soon, and with it's inclusion in gamepass ultimate, they wanted to add an incentive.
