You know...if stores are getting consoles almost a MONTH ahead of launch date...what's the point of holding on to that storage space for 30 days? Just seems odd to me for stocks to be building up this early when there's still a month to go?
some of these consoles were manufactured back in june or july when the assembly finally began. you want them to have a 3080 style launch with just a couple of thousand xboxs out at a time?

also, they need software to be ready and there is no point launching this console on october 22nd with no games.

Dammit! Burst my bubble and fantasy of getting a console EARLY, why don't you! :)

I know, I know....I'm just READY! I wan't to just wake up tomorrow and it's November 12th and we're all posting online about how awesome it is! :messenger_winking_tongue:

Lacklustre XsX performance could be Microsoft’s fault. Bad SDK, bad api’s, bad o/s, bad hardware setup. Games aren’t in a vacuum, it’s a synergy of all those things.
Xbox Series X hardware is fine. The issue is bugs and bad timing of API GDK not running properly till September 2020 with various bugs and features not working properly, Covid 19 and some devs legit not getting the debug consoles hardware to late. Microsoft does have some blame here. But the Xbox Series X hardware it’s self is fine.

Also GDK is a in a great spot now. So I believe you will start seeing better games quality looking games for Xbox Series X soon. But Some Launch titles pushed through some crazy obstacles to be launch titles.

There’s trade offs and benefits to it, as with many features of next-gen, if the developers feel it will benefit what they’re trying to achieve then that will be up to them. Don’t see the need to downplay it.

I would also add this which falls exactly in line with what I said. Brian Karis on the use of compute (primitive) shaders in the UE5 demo:

I suspect it's the PS5 CPU that will downclock when smartshift kicks in and that could become quite obvious in taxing games.
What the hell are you talking about? Did you never educate yourself with SmartShift technology? SmartShift has nothing to do with CPU downclocking in ps5, SmartShift only comes into play when cpu is not hitting its power budget to max so that it can supply its extra power to gpu. Both cpu and gpu can be run max clock all the time without downclocking anyone.

There is a very high possibility that DF among others already had a PS5 since like a week, but the NDA doesn't even allow them to talk about the NDA. :messenger_grinning_squinting: But i think DF once slipped or purposely teased it a bit in on of their videos, forgot which but it was like a week ago. Made it seem as if they are testing it.

Basically they cant: mention, talk, discuss, tease, ....etc. whatever comes in between to anything of their experience testing the PS5.

So you are saying the common SDK which is PC is not right and games transferred to PC and XSX will not run as well until its fixed, and so early PC and XSX games running using this SDK will be missing some performance ?

Or does it just apply to XSX even though SDK is common. Will 5700 PC games loose performance built using this SDK and DX12 ?

I dont buy it but we will see. I can imagine some freatures such as VA (blending in late MIPs) and Direct storage being optimised and maybe ray tracing and VRS etc, but not the standard code and its performance in general....we will see on PC and XSX.

that's weird. But we already have seen rest tracing in xsx games.

I missed that. What games have shown running on XSX and with RT? I was looking for that the other day, thinking the same and I couldn't find anything. Gears 5 being redone was the one I THOUGHT was with RT and I think a lot of people thought that...I'm pretty sure I had read that it was. Then we had it confirmed that Gears was NOT RT. So now I'm confused.

Aaah c´mon ya overreacting!
People often forget that the actors for these roles need to fill certain requirements. The hate on Holland is ridiculous. "He isn't a convincing Drake." He's a convincing Spider-man, and Drake is basically just less-talented Spidey with a gun. And Tom can pull off the comedic banter. Similarly, Sully has to be able to handle both action and comedy as well. That's like Wahlberg's calling card. You don't want Mark Wahlberg for a serious film, but Uncharted Sully? He actually has a chance to knock that out of the park.

I'm less worried about the casting and production, and more concerned with the actual script. Is it a good storyline? Is the dialogue going to pass big-screen muster, or are we going to get dialogue built for a 20hr game, copy-pasta'd into a motion picture? IMO, that's what will make or break the film.

I absolutely agree. I think Tom Holland will do just fine as Drake. Especially if they start out with a prequel "younger Drake" story. I think a lot of people can't get their minds around Nathan Fillion NOT being Drake like we all thought he would be for a while. And I think Nathan would have been perfect, but.....he's too old now. Missed that window. I think Tom Holland does great with Spider Man and will do good as Drake. Like you say, what REALLY matters is the script and storyline. I'd like to think that since they got someone like Holland to play the main role that it will be good, but of course, that's no guarantee. We'll just have to see how it shapes up!

That’s exactly what a bad developer does. Blaming the tools instead of his craft. The XSX Dev environment isn’t in a vacuum. It’s DX11U.

Looking from that perspective, the Xbox consoles shouldn't be releasing at all.

Its some sort of proprietary pin connector. Sony says its a "click-in design" and calls them "Charging Terminals" on their spec sheet.

I just appreciate its simple looking Sony made solution for this daily thing, ready on day 1. And for only $30, its well worth it to me for something I'll use for ~ 7 years. Plus it matches the console and controller design too, bonus.

The DS4 controller has the Ext port and does the exact same thing!

The USB port is at the top, this Ext port is at the bottom of the controller.

The Ext port can also be used to add a small keyboard or other extensions...

I agree with you. And as I have written before I think the decision to unify the development environment for XSX, XSS, X One, X One X, PC and the servers will come to haunt MS. Here is a good twitter thread on this topic (more relevant posts in the actual thread):

Watched through the video last night on my TV so properly in HDR, and kudos to DF for putting out an HDR encoded video on YouTube for this. Though I'd like to see some side by side comparison with the regular version. I'd also like to see how easy it is to toggle this on and off - can you do it easily mid game for example?

It's a great idea that, in it's current state based on that video, I'd probably only use on a few games. Stuff like Geometry Wars looks fantastic, but most other titles - even Batman - seem to have some downside that negates the advantages. Overly bright whites on the HUD, blown out detail in highlights or crushed detail in the dark areas and over saturated images. Sunset Overdrive looked particularly awful. HDR is about a more natural image, not just the bright spots, and this seems to concentrate on the latter. I'm sure it'll improve, but might end up needing fine tuning on a per title basis from MS. Impressive that they've even tried and certainly useful in some titles.
