Yeah but that's like saying PS5 and Xbox Series S are the same, they both run games. I just find it typical that Microsoft comes with a new feature to enhance their BC offering even more, and you are trying to downplay it by saying that it's the same as your TV is doing.
How? No not even remotely close to the same thing. Auto HDR has been in TVs since 2016. What Microsoft has done is pretty cool as it is a lightweight post process layer running on Series X which reduces latency before scan out to TV, and the tune it on a per game basis which could be better than a generic algorithm that TVs usually have. Your TV can do the same thing but I expect latency to be higher. They all use different algorithms to achieve the same thing.

LG = Thinq Ai whatever its called.
Samsung = HDR+
Sony = Xtended Dynamic Range

And I do remember Microsoft advertising Series S as the same as Series X except for 1440p resolution.

Could you tell me what MAJOR difference we've seen so far with third-parties that makes the Series X the DEFINITIVE console for multiplat games? Because so far, I haven't seen any yet and don't think we're gonna see any major differences throughout this generation because of 1.87 more TFLOPs. There's more to the console architecture than just a theoretical TFLOPs number, it's a useless metric when it comes to comparing performance with another system.
If I buy a multiplat game on the XSX and it performs less well than the ps5 version, then the developer is at fault. I can walk into any game store with that guarantee in mind. That’s why it’s the best place to play multiplat games unless haptics is your thing.
And that’s coming from someone who’s ordered both

I see it as exactly the same thing. You've got two devices that do the same thing, but now people try to play down what Microsoft is doing with Auto HDR by comparing it to how TV manufacturers do it. That's as ridiculous as saying that the PS5 = XSS. While we all know the PS5 > XSS, just like Auto HDR > TV HDR effect.

Creative Director for Google Stadia

I'd be more worried about losing my job if I were this guy. Considering how Google's spine jumps out of their back once a project they've trumpeted to the heavens doesn't live up to expectations and meets the axe. What a missed opportunity for Google to combine their fiber optic services and Stadia. Oh well. Anyway, with the way next-gen game prices are working out, it wouldn't surprise me if publishers start nickel and diming streamers the same way the music industry nickel and dimes YouTubers.

Also I dont understand your guarantee, if the game performs worse on XSX then you can walk into the gamestore and do what exactly, tell the guy behind the counter that its the devlopers fault and you want your money back ?

IMHO the charger is the greatest add-on possible for a PS5. I could finally charge without looking for a USB port of a active computer.

Yeah, I have had one since the PS4 came out. Never have to worry about running out of battery since I have a spare charging up.

Check mate, lazy devs. The sub 20% of gamers buying on an Xbox now have your number

I predict multi-platforms to work oh-so-slightly better on Series X too. Granted, this may take Digital Foundry to point out, and even then you have to ask if it's worth it. For many people that's all it takes. Which is fine. It will be interesting if any multi-platform game takes unique advantage of PS5 SSD and I/O. If so, there could potentially be a visual difference. More than likely not, though.

I expect ps5 to perform better slightly but not by much for 3rd party, especially in ray tracing BVH.

Sony first party to be quite a distance ahead.

Yeah do people not realize there are loads of charging stations for PS4 controllers? lol
The cool thing about the DualSense is it has new dedicated connectors along the bottom for that PS5 charging dock. It doesn't need to use the USB port, so the controller doesn't need to be docked upside down or whatever.

Don't all DualShock 4 charging docks have to use the mini USB port on the top of the controller?

Yes; but you just slide them in.. not really upside down, at least not the 2 I have.

But that does sound better. Is it like a contact-based thing where it's just metal plates that touch?

Its some sort of proprietary pin connector. Sony says its a "click-in design" and calls them "Charging Terminals" on their spec sheet.

I just appreciate its simple looking Sony made solution for this daily thing, ready on day 1. And for only $30, its well worth it to me for something I'll use for ~ 7 years. Plus it matches the console and controller design too, bonus.

The goal is to tone map from say Rec. 709 to ST2084 at 1000 nits without blowing out highlights and retaining detail in darker regions. Thats all they are doing but with different algorithm. Its like when Xbox One launched and the upscaler applied a higher contrast to the image that crushed the black level giving a high saturated contrasted look. PS4 on the other hand produces a flatter image that preserves details in the darker region but if you want a more saturated contrast look you can simply turn up the contrast level in your TV. Auto HDR is pretty cool and does not need defending. But your TV if you have one that has that feature can do the same thing.

I've already said what I think will happen, they will aim for the same framerate and resolution, XSX will hold both better and as machines gets pushed as time goes on that gap will widen. It won't be as big as X1X Vs Pro but it will be there.

I suspect it's the PS5 CPU that will downclock when smartshift kicks in and that could become quite obvious in taxing games.

Nice!

Way less janky than shoving a controller into a port; the existing style work OK but always feels a BIT sketchy like you'll break the port or charger dock.

You have come down from 18 % to parity with possibly better stability in 20 pages....with promises for the future.

There is movement. Lets revist in 20 more pages...... :messenger_beaming:

i expect exactly the same. i made the same statement many pages back too.

Oh I expected the same, but after hotchips and what games i have seen running, either Sony first party are wizards or there is something up. But we have not seen much 3rd party running yet on ps5, so thats fair.

That's all 18% can realistically give you, plus a CPU advantage and a memory bandwidth advantage. If the PS4 was 40% more powerful than X1 and it translates to 900p v 1080p it's unrealistic to expect more. Unless Smartshift is a bigger hit than Sony are letting on.

Neither of these things are "truths" lol
Actually it is true

Your data is meticulously gathered, categorised and then sold for impressions and clicks as ads. Google make a couple cents everytime you see an ad, a couple dollars if you click it.

If you have a habit of seeing and buying things off online ads they will even categorise you as a high value impression and charge more

Does anyone here have the Sony 900H TV? I ordered mine from amazon and its finally arriving tomorrow. I am excited but this thing took 12 days to get here and i spent them youtubing the tv and now im scared it wont be a massive jump from my KS8000.

Thankfully i bought a 75 inch one which alone should be a big upgrade from my 55 inch ks8000, but I hope the colors are better too. VRR better work at launch. I bought this tv just because I didnt want to miss out on hdmi 2.1 features.
