First look at PS5 UI

It’s weird to think of a From game, and everything they’re known for, as having guides built in
I don't see the problem, unless you can't disable.

For those who whining about 'too much hard' will be fine. For me I'll disable right alway.

I really don't like that weird menu that pops up when you press the home button.
that should simply open the home screen, which looks way more organized

Looks like the leak was true. I remember seeing that load up animation with the dark background a good week or two ago somewhere.

With the dark background it has an Xbox vibe to it.

Looks fine! But all those "activities" things... Couldn't those be inside the game and not on the console ui? Could be kind of immersion breaking.

Aside from that the ui looks nice and clean. :)
Since they are global, you have the chance to quickly jump from game to game depending on activities you choose.
I'm pretty sure you can choose to turn them off on a game per game basis anyways.

Not real sold on it. I don't like the idea of it being a menu within a menu but really that ties to the game last played so quick resume into a game is great. It seems like it would be a bit of a pain to switch games though. The fast load times should mitigate that though right? I worry that those cards will make it seem like everything is a mini game too but I really doubt that will happen.

I'll rewatch I guess to see what I missed.

Also, did I catch them saying the game tips are tucked behind a ps+ pay wall?

Is that that much different than XBOX Snap Apps?
the idea is the same but execution is very different, in Sonys favour obvs

i just wanna know if you can do that with twitch, youtube and stuff, worse thing about SNAP was how it made your gameplay screen smaller but the fact this one has ability to put it over your gameplay should make it more useable

Weird != problem. It's weird to imagine because their history and rise to popularity is centred around not knowing everything and communities figuring things out together, hence the messages players can leave and summoning.

If your controller can do voice recognition can I say "Hey Dualsense, launch X game' in the middle of playing something else and avoid all these button clicks?

At least i'm not calling 1-900 tiplines anymore!

So the picture-in-picture wasn't next-gen to you?
To be fair, I used to snap videos while playing on my OG X1 to watch football while gaming. It is a good idea and better implemented, I just don't think people are going to get super excited for pip. I've been wrong many times though

Looks amazing and the new features are very cool. Now we know they implemented some of the related patents they had about it. Can anyone remember them to see if there are some potential unnanounced details?

As I remember, it was mentioned in some of them the option of user created activities (maybe something like 'beat my lap record in this track of this racing game using that car') to share them with others. And I'm not sure if it was even mentioned that other players were able to play them via streaming, which I'm not sure if it meant that they were able to play them without owning the game, making them like some sort of user generated demos.

Nothing mindblowing but overall it looks convenient enough, all I really is need it for is launch games fast

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Looks functional but I agree with others that it's pretty busy. It seems like the activity cards might be tied to trophies - which if that's the case is pretty cool because I'm constantly cycling between the game and the trophies app in a lot of games to see what kind of stuff I can unlock next.

In-game hints are cool but locking them behind a paywall is kinda dumb, but understandable. Having the store integrated into the OS is an interesting choice but if it's fast I won't complain.

PiP isn't that amazing, it looks like it pops a borderless window - GT:S has somethign similar when you watch tutorials before loading into the race/challenge. The streaming a friend while playing is pretty cool though.

On the whole it looks ok.

Not a fan of how busy the cards make things look. They should really apply a gaussian blur filter to the background of the cards (over the paused game) to improve separation and legibility. Another way to do it would be to make the background of the cards full screen and then make background element black with about 50% opacity.

I think they've already done the latter to a certain extent at the top and bottom of the screen of the cards page (where the time is for example) but I don't think it's enough and as a result the page ends up looking busy. This will especially be a problem with colourful games.

The key is having it integrated at the OS level from launch. These should just be calls made by the OS to game/live data. Giving it universal support should hopefully allow it to be widely supported.

The layout is ok (very similar to PS4). But damn those new features looked like the jam! Very much a console designed for the post social media world. Color me impressed! The hints are great and I hope developers utilize this feature. Also loved that ability to pipe in a stream and PIP it on the game you are playing. Just slick.

None of the games were closed, When he set the PS5 to rest mode, you didn't see a message that the PS5 had to close one more game.

So it looks like the PS5 has "quick resume".

That was within the same game. It looks like PS5 doesn't have Quck Resume feature. I didn't see the dev switching games from where you left off.

Really like it but I wish the game tiles were a hit bigger
This. I feel like they focused too much on making the interface looks good versus usability.
Seriously, I’m watching the video and I can hardly recognize the logo from my sofa without my glasses. I don’t have a really good view, but it’s not that bad.

So I guess "Activity" is replacing the existing Trophy...? Very nice. The hint videos are nice too - that I often have my phone nearby to check - and it's nicely compartmentalized for the subject.

I wish the PnP feature is extended to other media too, like spotify music, YouTube, etc.

Would be cool to play games while listening to your favorite podcasts, or seeing walkthrough from YouTube and many more.
