Rumor - PS5 to have 650GB of usable storage

That's what i'm thinking too... one of the side plates probably sides off so you can access the hard drive bay(s)

We've seen the inside of a sideplate with lots of little spikes, it makes my ass clench thinking of pulling that off and risking breaking one of those spikes on a $700(CND) machine.

So far Sony hasn't shown how we install the expanded memory in the PS5. I guess we'll see it soonish? I'm guessing you pry the side off and jam it in somewhere?

No I mean is there TWO places. Like the Xbox series has a internal AND a external port for another one.

- $499 / $399
- No PS1, PS2, PS3 BC
- 10.23 TF
- No Free Upgrades
- $70 Games
- No Gamepass Equivalent
- $60 PSN
- Gigantic
- They actually don't believe in generations
- 650GB of storage for 4Kish gaming
+ Super awesome SSD
+ Cool Exclusives

For fuck sake I hope their games come to PC. I'm not getting ripped off out the gate, I'll wait till everything is discounted and the console size is reduced.

That would be unfortunate. At least game installs are rumored to be smaller. Not sure if it makes up for it though. 175GB for the OS seems a bit extreme no?

It does. But then again, check your PS4 storage - mine has ~800gb useable out of 1TB

It'll do for the first year or so but man, I can't click delete on the exclusives and they pile up, it's feels like killing a flock of doves.

lol I love this post! It seemed so normal and forgettable until the last statement

Everyone’s uses vary
But for me that will be enough space

I never saw the reason to have more games on my hard drive than what id actually be playing, for me that’s 1-3 games tops

Those people who like keeping vast collections as their disposal though, hopefully there will be options for you guys, be it off the shelf ssds or whatever

Makes sense tbh. The OS itself is probably only a fraction of the reserved space. Majority is 4k video buffer and quick resume cache. Where else do you think the memory dump would write to??

Most of the games are around 50-60 GB, there are only a handful that get up over 100GB, so it's not actually that bad at all.
We started last gen with 500gb, remember?
The problem is that the few games that go over 100GB are GAAS.

It's the stuff people have installed at all times. Call of Duty with 200gigs, GT Sport, Destiny 2 and GTAV with around 100Gigs... someone who is into all four games has serious storage problems, especially after COD, Destiny 2 and GTAV get their next gen upgrades which forces you to install them on the internal drive.

Will wait and see what compatible SSDs cost next year before passing judgment. Sucks that prices seem to have flatlined the last few years, wish there was more space to drop. At this point SSDs are standard, they’re commodities. Shouldn’t be paying a premium for them at this point unless they’re bleeding edge with huge speed increases.

The Gen 4 NVMe drives are going for about $200 for 1TB and $360 for 2TB.

Where did this come from? Is it just more FUD?
What is the source?
The source is segmentnext and it still just a rumor so it could be right or wrong we will find out soon enough but so far the rumor and leaks are more right than wrong so take it how you will.

less redundancy needed and more compression
That would make this the first generation where game size actually decreases.

I'm not buying it. I fully expect 100+ GB installs to be the norm in a few years, with a few games that heavily rely on content updates hitting 300+.

Don't pass gaas, it is your Destiny!
After seeing what’s left of 1tb on the Xbox can see it being in the 600s

It’s a shame but no way around it really. Just gonna have to get used to 2-3 big games and lots of tiny one installed at one time.

On the upside, it looks like the compression is much better and the games should be smaller.

i don't how you can be that confident.
spiderman ps4 is 45 -> MM 55gb
bloodborne is 40gb -> dmr is 66gb

and those are cross gen games....
disk space is what will cost me the more by far to play now everywhere :D
drawback of ssd.
but who knows how fast price will drop with massive production

Already paid for my XSX 1TB card.

The more news that comes out for next gen, the more disappointing it gets. Only thing im looking forward to right now is a remake. Nothing else on either consoles screams "day 1".

If Demon Souls turns out to be coming to Ps4, I will hold off on buying a Ps5 till there's a slim or pro. Who thought it was a good idea to appoint Jim Ryan as the president?

Of course they've got you on the hook for more storage but be smart and find it on a sale down the line. You don't need it now anyway, the library isn't there.

I can't wait to see the SDF defense of the pricing on the PS5 CERTIFIED(only CERTIFED drives will WORK in a PS5) this is gun be gud.

EDIT: Sony fans really attacked MS for their expensive expansion drive cost, but they might be shocked when they realize how expensive their own expansion drives will end up costing.
You can use any driver that fits Sony specs (actually you can use these that doesn’t fit the specs it will just not delivery the performance or even run PS5 games).
They will have a list of which ones works well but that doesn’t mean you can’t try yourself others.

It is after a off the shelf driver sold by several companies in the PC industry.

Well, since every generation has led to significantly larger install sizes, this may be the first time where the next-gen games are actually smaller than the last gen. Imagine how much worse it would be if we were seeing PS3 to PS4 type increases.

Ultimately, storage always sucks for the first iteration of a console. But the prices will come down in a few years when the tech isn't as novel. For now, I'm just happy the games aren't getting bigger.

Spider man PS4 including all patches/DLC more than 70GB -> PS5 55GB
Spiderman MM ps4 52GB -> PS5 50GB

You're saving over 15GB vs last gen.

As long as there is an easy/quick way to transfer games between the internal drive and external HDDs (for storage when not playing), then it won't be a big problem.

Remasters paywalled behind buying a different game.

No info yet on compatible PC SSDs. Cerny said in his March show PCs showed be at compatible 7gb+ SSDs by now where there should be a master list of PC SSDs that are compatible and you can just plug in. Where's the list?

Cerny said it would great to have a compatibility list by launch but "it's likely to be a bit past it". I wouldn't hold my breath.

2TB for me then. Next-gen storage space is no joke!
I bought one for my PC and installed it earlier today. I guess I'll get another one for the PS5 or get the Samsung 980 Pro, assuming that they're compatible.

That's like the other way of the rumor that RedGamingTech just reported on. PS5 has 1TB, explains that 1TB is not actually 1TB but slight more or whatever, and then 175 is taken up by the "OS" or something like that and the usable storage is 825GB. But this rumor says the it's actually 825GB with 175GB reversed for OS so actually only 650GB 🤔 Someone is off.

I'll wait on official numbers. I do enjoy the mini-meltdowns whenever a rumor like this pops up LOL

Neither console has enough storage built in and that was always going to be a problem when moving up to SSD's thankfully external HDD's are very cheap and you can get 5TB for $110 and just swap your games back and forth, I'm sure most people here already have some form of external storage so this really isn't an issue.

That was then, this is now. Like you now I know better, GAF has taught me that no one and nothing is credible, except maybe meme worth bad news... and 4chan. We brother's now, brother.

I think you forgot the part where i said "I'll wait on official numbers" but you probably glossed over that. Good job reading.

isn’t it “max 10.23 TF (variable)“? At least according to the official spec sheet from Sony.
