Poll* Microsoft owns Minecraft, how many of you would jump ship to Xbox if Microsoft made Minecraft console exclusive to Xbox only?

Yes I would jump ship to Xbox.

So the PS4 has outsold the Xbox one 2 to 1. For crying out loud the Nintendo switch which just came out a few years ago has now outsold the Xbox one by 20 million units!!! I originally traded in my PS2 for an Xbox because of Halo and ever since I have been an Xbox fanboy so to watch the Xbox brand take last place this generation really pisses me off.

If Sony had been the one to acquire Minecraft they would have definitely made it console exclusive to PlayStation it would have never ever been on Xbox. If I had been the one in charge of the Xbox brand I for sure would have made Minecraft XBox exclusive it would have never been on PlayStation!

Can you imagine how many millions more Xbox ones would have sold if Minecraft had been XBox exclusive? It easily could have sold an additional 20 million units I bet.

The Xbox brand is dying and they need to do all they can do to revive it to its former glory! They need to make Minecraft console exclusive to Xbox and then maybe Xbox could be the one selling over 100 million units!

Nothing against Minecraft but it’s just not that popular on here. Try asking on Reddit or something.

Edit: Actually I think will ask this question on Reddit.

That would be the dumbest move they've made yet. If they wall it off to a large portion of it's fanbase that play on other devices, that user base will not just happily jaunt off to the store to buy an Xbox. They'll more likely be really pissed off and hold a grudge against the asshole company that took their favorite game away. If Minecraft has been made an Xbox exclusive from day one it wouldn't have sold 1/20th the copies it did across all platforms.

For all their fumbles over the last decade or so, they've made some really good choices regarding games on other platforms. They're selling games on PC again, and they are doing well in the space. They've released Ori on the Switch, and it was a perfect port somehow. They push cross-play across all devices and when they bought studios they honored contracts already in place so the games released on competing platforms. The Xbox brand isn't dying, it's still growing. It has grown beyond the console it spawned from and it would be foolish to try to force itself back into that box.

As awesome as Minecraft is, there’s not a snowball’s chance in hell I’d go exclusively with Microsoft due to this. I guess this particular scenario doesn’t necessarily pertain to gamers such as myself who game on several devices. I’m all in on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC so I whore myself out to many platform holders. Regardless of the IP, I don’t believe there’s a single franchise that’s able to capture an audience with its appeal. There’s entirely too many choices.

How the fuck is the Xbox brand not dying when it's looking like it's not going to sell more than the Xbox 360 did? The PS4 has outsold it to one, the Nintendo switch has outsold it by 20 million units and the Nintendo switch has only been out for three fucking years!!!!! The Xbox brand is being left in the dust by it's competition.

The reason I ditched my PS2 for Xbox was because Xbox had a game that was so awesome that I couldn't play it anywhere else but Xbox, that game was Halo.

Let's just look at it this way, what do you think would have happened if Sony had been the one to purchase Minecraft, do you think it would be on Xbox to this day? No Sony would have never done that, and Sony knows how to win obviously since the PS4 is doing so well.

I think we've seen this thread or a variation of it and its argument way too many times. At this point I would just prefer MS to do it so I don't see them ever again. Answer is no.

They bought it well past its peak.

It means nothing now. The kids who grew up playing it are like 16-17 now and couldnt give less of a fuck about it.

Who still plays Minecraft in 2020? Kids and casuals. Not gonna find many of those on neogaf dot com.

For right now, the general audience here is 40 year olds that have been console warring and circle-jerking over AAA cinematic experiences for the past two decades. Take a guess. : P

I still don’t think many would react well. It’s Microsoft’s good faith and multi-platform strategy with Minecraft, that’s allowed it to continue doing so well. Making Minecraft accessible to everyone, playable with your friends, and continually a fun experience, is key.

Microsoft’s best play would be to make the Series X version something truly special in terms of visuals and raytracing — a natural fit for the hardware. Even then, PS5 gamers shouldn’t be frozen out of those features.

Wouldn't jump ship, as Minecraft alone just isn't enough. They would need at least 20 more big exclusives to make me want to switch ecosystems -- especially since I would be leaving a less GaaS-orientied platform and hopping straight into the home of GaaS.

Also, there's zero chance the PS4 outsold the X1 by a ratio of only 2:1. All indicators (e.g. X1 selling 17K a month in NA and PS4 selling over 100K in the same month) point at a 3:1, possibly higher split.

MS doesn’t give a shit about how many boxes they sell. It’s just about the eco system and subscriptions.

You’re asking the wrong crowd that question. Besides minecraft is well beyond any foe exclusivity has ever faced.

I don’t think any adult, who cares about video games, would even play Minecraft. A kid’s game from 20 years ago.

Well since Minecraft was forced bedrock on everybody using the worse code out of all the platforms I'd say Microsoft making Minecraft a console exclusive Xbox does everyone else a favor.

But since Bedrock Edition is all about cross platform etc this will never happen.

However they still might get the whole 4k ray tracing thing exclusive which kinda sucks, but at the same time I still don't care because Bedrock Edition sucks even more and I would rather just not play.

"Bu-bu-but guys, it has ray tracing on Series X now!"

Lmao, no. I'd never drop Playstation to play Minecraft. I've never seen the appeal of the series. It looks like another treadmill game like Animal Crossing or Fortnite that people glob onto because their casual friends play it.

I think if they done it at the start of last gen it could of made an effect.

This gen I don’t think it makes much difference.

Fortnite is the new Minecraft

126 million active players not bad for a dead game. It’s just not popular on NeoGAF and you’re all to ‘hard’ to admit it if you do.

People here are not the mine craft fans. Mine craft fans are not really console players either.

Minecraft 2, assuming it was truly a superior game to Minecraft, would probably get me to pick up a cheap XsX down the road as a Minecraft 2 machine.

But I already have Minecraft on several systems. I wouldn't jump ship for a game I already own.
