It's el Corte Ingles, which is a huge and reliable retailer.

The consoles are called: Aurea and Enigma.

The Xbox One S was cheaper and still flopped.
In the people's mind Sony's brand is worth the extra $.

I mean manufacturing costs.

We know the specs and hardware in the PS5. It's worth considerably more than 399.

From SSD to cooling solution to controller i agree.

the guy who opened up DualSense said expect it to be much more expensive due to internal parts. And their SSD is fastest consumer ssd. It comes at a price

399 isn’t happening. Sony would be taking massive loss imo
Sony would be taking quite a hefty hit at those prices.
I think the digital version launching at $399 is the sweet spot.

That will make it a compelling purchase for many which means many of those consumers will be making most of their purchases through the PS store and services, generating more revenue and profit for Sony as they take a loss on PS5 hardware sales.

Will be available for a month and then they will all be taken away and nobody is allowed buy them ever again!

Considering how little effort Nintendo put into 3D All Stars I'm actually contemplating donating GBP 46.77 ( $60 [USD])dollars to the people who made the Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 "HD" texture packs, I mean, look at this majesty!:

Click them for fullscreen, I made them small to as not to shit up the thread. The work is absolutely top tier, it looks amazing even at 8x Internal Resolution (6x is what you'd use for 4K output) + SSAA. I'm using 6x IR + 2x SSAA and its glorious (4x SSAA removes aliasing even on edges that are only a few degrees off horizontal or vertical but it causes slowdown with some of the 2D/alpha effects), a little bit of FXAA can remove the aliasing the same but obviously thats just blurring it so you lose a minute amount of detail (I'm talking real pedant-shit aliasing complaining here).

I ended up not using FXAA because I'm a sharpness whore. If you just want slightly softened, pixar movie-like IQ then do 4K/6x IR (or whatever you res is) + 2x SSAA + FXAA). I can't wait to try the Super Mario Sunshine "HD" texture pack!

I saw this SM64 "HD texture pack" though... jesu christi... I didn't know my eyes could vomit bile until that moment.

Sorry for being so off topic but this has me overly excited by how good it looks.

Could definitely see the digital only PS5 being £399. Sony would make the loss back via PSN sales.

If Sony makes it to $399, and somehow isn’t taking a huge bath, when games like Ratchet and Horizon 2 look as impressive as they do, that will be quite the feat of engineering.

Tbh, I think it’s kind of possible. We’ll see, of course, but the system and it’s unique design has seemed like a smart compromise between next-gen and keeping the budget down since the beginning.

A massive loss when you buy the diskless console, to them means another slave added to their digital storefront. It's totally worth it for them. Don't expect any ps5 digital games sales in the first 2 years, and very low discount on ps4 games, probably, during that period.

Edit: I doubt the loss is massive, but there is some loss.

Do they have much choice tho? MS came out with 499, so obvious they cannot go any higher than that, both companies saw in this and previous generation how damn crucial the price tag is. Especially if you came out with the weaker console with smaller drive space, there's no justifying factor for the average Joe for the price to be higher. As for the DE, there has to be a lot of saving from the consumers point of view, 25-50$ won't cut it for the exchange of cutting yourself out of the second hand market and being on PS Store prices mercy. 100$ is a lot for the consumers, but Sony would make up that money in no time with digital distribution.

I hope they can make the digital edition at $399. It will take guts, like PS1’s $299 decision, but they can 1.) drop the manufacturing costs over time (SSD prices will keep on dropping) and 2.) they have a strong digital store in terms of sales that can help them recoup the investment and help them grow the user base more quickly and ensure they do not lose users (or minimise the loss) in the PS4 to PS5 transition.

A €399 PS5 Digital it will be a win for everyone except retail stores.IMO at that price and given there is enough consoles available the digital edition will outsell the disc one. Gamers will get a next gen console for a reasonable price, PS Store will grow immensely and Sony will get a ton of loyalties.

Wtfff El Corte Inglés uses AS400 systems? Welcome to fucking 1990
A LOT of businesses still use AS400. There are still airlines using AS400.
When I worked in an airline booking tickets, a few years ago, we used a version of AS400 with absolutely no menus or options, we had to memorize a 200 page manual of commands to be able to search flights and book the tickets.
