Despite online rage, The Last of Us: Part II "has one of the highest completion rates of any" PS-4 game

How many players follow their own criteria and how many succumb to artificially inflated online dramas?
While this may prove many different things, one thing is clear: the vast majority of people are not interested in what Internet forums or tweeter warriors think about stuff, whether they are right or not. A 10/10 score on a well-known/favourite gaming site or a widely recognized brand still means so much more to them.

Therefore, phenomena like review bombings on Metacritic are infantile and meaningless, and to the point where you genuinely feel sorry for all these bitter souls. :lollipop_pensive:

With how many online have said "People played half of The Last of Us Part: II but then returned it halfway due to the narrative choices," PlayStation trophy statistics prove them otherwise as:

Higher completion rate than:

  • Final Fantasy 7 Remake
  • God of War
  • Spider-Man (PS4)
  • Days Gone
  • Death Stranding
  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
  • Ghost of Tsushima
  • Horizon Zero Dawn
  • Detroit Become Human

So, love it or hate it, it seems that the majority of people who played The Last of Us: Part II were interactive/emotionally compelled enough, with hate, rate, or love, to complete the main story. It appeared to have kept them hooked throughout the whole adventure.
Compared to open world games? Don’t know if I’d say it’s apples-to-apples comparing the completion rate of a 12-15 linear game with those open world games that are 2-3 times as large. I imagine most people wanted to see what all the fuss was about regarding the second half of the game, given that reviews pointed towards up a particularly dramatic twist in the last couple of hours . Just as easily an “aw fuck it why not “ as an emotionally gripping narrative from what I saw.

Can you elaborate and try to deny what I said?
EDIT
More proof:

Which other Sony exclusive got discounted this soon? No one.

And why?

I'll let you think.
Spider-Man. Most exclusives actually lol

Lol because apparently I can't "judge" that game until I finish it, and many others just wanted to see if it's gonna get any better from the start.

Also weird comparison for a 20-30 hour game but okay.

You are confusing rage with making fun of something.

It's low, for example 72% who bought trash like rdr2 didn't complete it.
A large open world game with an added multiplayer mode would have a lower completion rate than a linear single-player game. But probably most of the 42% of people who didn't complete Naughty Dog's most anticipated sequel didn't end up liking it either. Still, this was a highly-anticipated PS4 exclusive so I would have thought this exclusive with "one of the highest completion rates" would be much higher (70-80 percent).

Haven’t we had enough threads for this game yet, both pro and con? And yet, we rarely see a good Super Mario RPG thread.

I feel like I've noticed a trend with PlayStation exclusive games this generation. They tend to have very achievable platinum trophies. They don't tend to require and particular difficulty level used and no multiplayer even if it has it at all. Maybe it's just confirmation bias, but Bloodborne, God of War, Spiderman, Horizon zero dawn, last of us 2, etc all had easy platinums.

Sorry this was off topic, but it made me realize the statement above
Bloodbornes platnium was rough. I'll never forget those fucked defiled chalices.

Last of Us 2 was consciously made easier though. If I remember correctly, the devs wanted the platinum to be realistically attainable by handicapped fans so they made it pretty easy. Spider-man was just an easy game in general (even on the hardest difficulty). Agreed on Horizon and GoW though. It's a good push IMO. I never liked the insane timesink/grind plats.

Tbh, I finished the game because I was just hoping for things to get better. The first game was so solid. Well written, directed and well paced. It's the main reason I kept playing tlou2 until the end.

The wife, who was more optimistic during her playtrough, eventually just wanted the game to end. It was the story and the weird pacing made the game tedious around halfway for her.

With that said though, the gameplay is freakin great! Feels so good to play. Animations blend so seemlessly. The gameplay was the second reason we kept playing. We aren't usually fond of violent shooty action games, but tlou suits us just fine. At least it in that regard it was a pleasure to play.

Well, didn't most of the rage come from people who never actually played the game and never had any intention of doing so?

In my opinion they almost couldn't have made a better sequel (some minor flaws, but which game doesn't have them?), it's probably the game of this generation, a technological masterpiece and a benchmark for many years to come.

Just.. Insanely well-made, impressive, inmersive and great. I was genuinely blown away and now I'm so spoiled it's hard to appreciate other games.

This game and the first one are two of the only games that ever made me feel genuine emotions playing them.

Spoilers or whatever,

It's a solid game (as far as third person shooter AAA games go, it's a pretty mechanically fluid experience) with abysmal pacing, only really bothersome on second+ playthroughs. It's been brought up before in more eloquent detail, but having a narrative structure that builds up to a climax only to stop RIGHT BEFORE said climax and restart from a different perspective is...not good narrative structure.

Say what you will about specific plot events or quality of writing (I'd say it's about as well written or contrived as it's always been, whether that's a pro or a con is up to you) but I feel like it's the ping ponging of narrative tension that harms it more than any female biceps or golf games. By Abby's Seattle day 3, I was feeling more tension and sense of stakes because I was aware we were about to go back to Ellie. That shouldn't be the case when the plot was focused on an entirely different area. I should have been most invested in the Haven war and all that, and the fact that I just wanted that shit to get over with so I could see the theater conclusion was....eh. Certainly could have been managed better, I think.
These are my feelings exactly. Thank you for writing it out so well

That's exactly where most of it came from. Heck the game had like 30,000 0/10 user reviews on Metacritic the moment reviews were allowed to be posted. None of those people even played the game. Just a bunch of babies.

Ha ha, good one.....

Never seen a game terrorize kiddies and give them so many nightmares. They were plotting against the game since "ND is bad for crunch, Druckmann more like cuckman, because he defended his game after a leak, they said this game would not review well, then the 94/5 Meta shook them to the core, they then went on the review bomb the game....Then they said sales will be bad because these reviewers got paid and they will stop buying this game when persons report it's really the worst game this gen" News then came up that LOU2 broke records after slighlty under 2 days of sales. They said sales have tapered off, till when ND blows their eyesockets out with the latest numbers for LOU2, maybe a few days after they release it on PS5......

This is Sony's biggest game, it would have been a victory for some if it reviewed bad and tanked, it is also from Sony's best developer and most prolific GOTY winner, also the studio at the top of the graphical foodchain.......LOU is like PS's excalibur, the plotting the wishing, the attempts to defeat it has been unrelentless, but the more they fight excalibur, the more bodies stands beneath it's wake. LOU 2 is overcoming every plot and warrior sent it's way with extreme prejudice....So you will see some really hateful and vengeful posts in here soon...
TEAAAA!!!!!
Can we pin this comment? Or can I save it?

No. I lost interest even before the controversial second half. The only reason I pulled through is for the easy platinum and so I never have to touch it again. It was one of the games I uninstalled the fastest after platinum, seconded by Ghost of Tsushima.

Forever fascinated how the amazing immersive environments & journey aren’t enough for some even if the story is not resonating. That aspect is simply unmatched.

For me, it hit on all accounts. There are no videogames that can compare to the narrative presented here.

People were in disbelief that they’ll pull such a ridiculous twist and ending. They couldn’t believe it and had to finish the game and see for themselves. Not surprising.

When you fucked it up, but need some stats to brag about.

An example: I write an "indie" game. Show it to a GAFer. He completes it.
Yeehaa, 100% completion rate, come and beat it.

What time is it?
Was hoping someone had play some Smashing Pumpkins on the in game guitar but alas it was not to be.

And then Ellie realized the folly of revenge while standing on a mountain of corpses she'd murdered in her quest to avenge Joel.

I remember playing Shadow of Colossus remake on PS4 and noticing a huge drop in players completing each new boss, especially the harder ones. If I remember correctly less than 5% actually completed the game.

I don‘t criticize the gameplay or graphics, that made the game bearable. I also don‘t criticize the second half (the gameplay was better there anyways). The story was dead to me the second the Joel scene happened.

I would love to get a good MP mode for the game so I can revisit it. But the SP, at least in terms of story, is void to me. Sadly this is a SP game, the replayability equals null if all you have is story missions.

12-15 hours?? Try 25-40 and it took me well over 40 hours

How many more threads about this game are we going to be subjected to from the Sony (tm) fans on this board? Just curious, not calling for it to stop or anything.

I dropped it to play GoT, but I want to finish it before jumping into the next Gen.

Tlou is one of my favourite games ever, 15h in Tlou2 and I am mostly bored. Too much focus on human interaction and love affairs instead of the cordyceps outbreak. Maybe the game will turn into another direction later, I hope.

I am leaving the topic to avoid spoilers 😜

Most people don't care about online outrage. They either like it or they don't but they don't get this carried with things.
Goes to show just how entitled and influential some of us think we are, but it's all just silly acting behind a keyboard that amounts to nothing, nobody cares beyond your bandana squad. Some people even esteemed themselves to be fighting for a cause, a life and death situation if you will, a problem that was threatening the world's existence and our mortality at an alarming rate.....Some people are so serious about this thing, I have never seen such lunacy before in gaming circles.....Man I'm so glad LOU2 defied all of these odds, well in retrospect, a very loud and bitter but small crowd outside was all this noise was.....In the end, talent always wins, that's the cold hard truth...

Come to think of it, I think there is a "rage against the machine" for pretty much every thing out there, everything under the sun. Some people are even against some people's right to breathe, speech etc.....I really don't know how we got there. Well maybe social media has empowered many a flat footed soldier behind keyboards....The rage online and even now offline as they become more emboldened is seething....

On social media and online forums, people take a hissy fit because;

I dont like how Tidus looks in FF12 remake

I dont like how Jill looks in RE3

An issue between two workers at a studio, let's shutter it down and threaten lives

Abby is buff, how can I play this...Ohh no di Ellie just kiss that big nosed girl. Just absolute mindless, trivial and inconsequential drivel really

People working hard for a living, let's shutter that down, lets go smoke weed and hang out all day on social media, let's instead look for acceptance and an ego boost by trying to fight and go against any target we see, for likes or emojis from our inner circles, our fud klux klan that comfort our bruised and fragile ego's, that we are fighting for a good cause.

There's more, but for said hobbyists to go to the lengths they did to fight against the best studio and probably the best game this gen, regardless of what they prefer, I have never seen such desperation and degeneracy. The console war, was just some light back and forth, humorous stuff, some light jabs here and there, funny banter between opposed factions who still all loved games, but now it has become bitter and personal. People are trying to affect people's lives, get them fired, shutter studios because it's not aligned to their own console choice.

...Fanboys!

This really doesn't mean shit, as evidenced by much better games having lower completion rates (like The Last of Us 1, for example).

But hey, you guys were overdue for a thread where you can jerk each other off. Have at it.
We don't know the completion rate for the first because there were different trophies for completing it on different difficulties. So they will obviously overlap. So you don't have a point here.

Honestly, you can't just equate this with one side, though. Full disclosure, as previously stated, despite my issues with the pacing of the narrative and some plot points (I really would have preferred a trilogy, with the actual Part II being the hypothetical Part III) I enjoy the game. A lot. But...

I feel like A LOT of the vitriol is a direct result of the SJW scene taking up torches and pitchforks against the industry in years past. Everyone knows "it's just a game," no one (who is sane) is losing their shit because of choices fictional people in a fictional world made, but the liberal media has been running a narrative that (similar to race, religion, and gender) that a large majority of people (in this case, gamers) are toxic and need to be broken down and built back up in a more Progressive way. Nothing radicalizes folks quicker than being told by a group of strangers that they're essentially evil for taking part in something that they've enjoyed/been enriched by for years.

TLOU was a fantastic game, and it garnered fans Left, Right, up, down and center. A lot of folks feel like the lean into leftist politics, the Twitter antics, and the youtube DMCA escapades were Naughty Dog (specifically Druckman) essentially saying "not only do I align myself with these viewpoints, I actively admonish those that DON'T. Which comes back around to what a lot of people have said before: just keep your ideologies out of games. You can reference the Bible without having to preach six sermons and make me pay 60 bucks to hear about how much of an evil sinner I am.
