Dev states that their game will have lower fps on PS5 than on XSX. Blames Sony (...then Unity, then deletes original Tweet)

I don't understand Sony's PS5 hardware. The CPU is going to bottleneck the SSD. In complicated games, load times will be faster on the XBSX. I'll be posting a video that details this soon

LOL he didn’t watch the presentation but wanted to share his fantasy anyway 😂

Is he still looking for that video?

Quote fixed to be what he should have posted.

Also, it's too bad Cerny couldn't get him on the phone during the past multi-year development phase of the PS5. All this time and none of the world class hardware engineers on the product realized that the SSD would be too fast for the CPU.

What a bummer. If only ... if only the dev behind Orphan of the Machine could have been contacted!

Furthermore, he's using Unity so ...

Maybe the tweet wasn't the wisest of opinions to express, but that's really no excuse to drag the dev through the mud and make fun of their game. Especially when it was clarified that Unity was a big part of the problem.

Maybe they look foolish, but certainly no more than all the people pulling out their torches and pitchforks.

Honestly, has power ever really mattered? Xbox One X is more power than PS4 Pro. Xbox was stronger than PS2 and Dreamcast. Switch is weaker than PS4 and XBox One. Neo Geo was more powerful than Genesis and SNES. 3DO blew SNES and Genesis out the water. Bottom line is, a slight power discrepancy probably won’t really matter in the end if the good games are there.

Well to be fair, it definitely USED to seem matter here at the beginning of this generation. Every other thread was "haha 900p vs 1080p!" over and over again. :pie_eyeroll: Just saying.

But I agree that it really should simply be all about the games at the end of the day.

Who is this no name wanna be a game dev character and why he/she acting like a game dev God? This game is Doa anyway and comments like this only going to make it worse. Yikes.

The framerate probably clocked itself on PS5 and came around the other side. I reserve the right to this explanation being just as plausible as the devs.

Something seems of though. this is one of his tweets

Some OOTM tidbits. 4k/120 on XBSX, 4k/60 on XB1X, 940p/60 on XB1, 4k/60 on PS5, 1080p/60 on PS4Pro/PS4, 720/60 docked on Switch, not sure about Switch handheld mode yet. Those are the target resolutions and frame rates.

just look at those numbers 4k 60 on xb1x but ps5 the same.

More importantly, look at the PS4 Pro/PS4 numbers. Even though the PS4 is a more mature system than the PS5 (he claims PS5 is missing Unity features), the Pro receives no enhancement, but the discontinued XBO X does. Guy's an obvious fanboy.

Unity is missing features to properly work on PS5.
Seems like you interpret his comment backwards.

Yeah. Good point. I’ll never forget those 720p and 900p threads. Good times.

This is where it all began. This tweet was a desperate cry for help because he couldn't get his hands on a devkit.

Well, that answers all the questions right there.

Use a shitty development API, get shitty results.

This isn't news.

Probably an alpha version running everything in software on PS5 for all we know. But it's PS5 fault! The comedy is thick and fast with this soy boy. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Once released 1000fps for Dolphin game or bust.

This specific tweet should be added to the OP, as it contains the most details regarding why exactly.

I appreciate that eventually, he actually explained the issue instead of just blaming Sony.

Is this thread supposed to demonstrate that Sony fans are less likely to get upset about unflattering console comparisons? :)

He's clearly Xbox biased but maybe that's a result of his experiences on Twitter.

meanwhile i am seeing GT7 is going to have 120-240fps mode, a 4K60fps mode, Dirt 5 has a 120fps mode on PS5, yet the narrative push back by some insecure people on the internet: PS5 can't handle higher frame rate. Take a L, Spider-Man Miles Morales will shut you all up with his web attacks at 60fps later this year, holiday 2020!

Dirt 5 runs with 120FPS, right? So... yeah^^
Juat like avalanche said ps4 was better than all pcs yet they could not run just cause 4 at 20fps on console. Overhyped ps5 is obvious. Faster ssd speed will be king for a few months, once pc release pci 4.0 im august with new samsung, ps5 will have nothing. Once again. Obsolete hardware after a year. How i hate new generarions of overhyping bullshit and sheeps defending it

Just wanted to say that this reta... Pardon me, Dev, was the one that said he was not developing for the PS5 because the Dev kit was too expensive.

That's all.
And?
That's a 100% percent valid stance.

If you make it harder for developers to develop for your platform, less developers will develop for it.

Why do the developers with the hottest takes on the differences between these consoles always have games that look like this?

orphan-of-the-machine-xbox-series-x-2-5-740x370.png

Forgive me for "doubting the experts" here, but is the sequel to the addictinggames.com flash Shark game really pushing either of them? I might think that entering the console wars is the most free attention they get...

Exactly. At this point I've got to think stating hot takes about next gen consoles is free promo for small developers. Gets you attention.

I've read indie devs are the most affected by Covid so it's understandable.

I'm not interested in this game (although I'm sure some people will love it, especially my niece) but it shows the same code runs much worse on PS5 and that's very telling. Sony fans were believing PS5 is much easier to develop games, and here we can see how it works in reality 😅👌.

Yesterday he said Orphan can run at 120fps on PS5 but at lower resolution. So even if he will redirect audio resources to the dedicated chip this game will be still GPU limited. That's probably why he is saying 120fps on PS5 is nothing certain, because CPU is not the bottleneck.

Xbox One X can run it this game at 4K 60fps, while PS5 struggle to hit 120fps? I can believe that because I have seen RX580 vs 5700XT comparisons and 10TF RDNA1 wasnt exactly 2x better compared to 6TF GCN Polaris.

There are few examples with 100% scaling, but most of the time it was below 100%. Of course PS5 GPU will be a little bit better than 5700XT thanks to RDNA2, but Xbox One X GPU was also better than standard RX580.

MS has said not every game will show perfect scaling using just architecture gains alone and that's why they wanted to build XSX with exactly 2x more TFLOPS in order to double Xbox One X GPU performance in every game. PS5 GPU is 10TF and that's assuming the best scenario (variable clock), so people should be really no surprised PS5 GPU cant double Xbox One X results so easily.
