I'm sorry you are having financial problems right now. I am too. In fact, I don't have a dollar in my pocket. But I'm not taking any checks they send out. If I'm mailed one, I'll tear it up. I do not support govt. bailouts of businesses or individuals. No where in the constitution of the USA does it claim that the government has any right to give money to private businesses or individuals. Now, when it comes to personal donations from one person to another, I'm all for it. People need to pool together and help each other. I would strongly urge you to look up food banks in your area - especially those ran by churches. If you call one of them and explain your situation, they might even meet you at the church even if their food bank isn't officially open.
You can donate your check to me.

I'm frustrated because this is getting a lot worse than I ever expected and the person I care for is elderly and sick. I'm normally pretty broke but now my work has come to a halt. The food situation is bad here and I don't have any money and no transportation so I can't hop from store to store. I don't know where to get help other than hoping maybe govt money comes through with Trump's proposal.

I didn't think it would come to this but I feel really fucked right now.
Look at the subreddit for your local area and see if anyone's made a post about where to find relief. If there isn't one, ask. Also, google around for any food banks in your area or charities who are providing services.

Look up churches in your area. If no one answers their office number, look up their pastor's phone number and call him. Or go to their websites, get their email addresses, and contact them.

Indeed. Almost like people should calm the fuck down. Asswipe is one of the USA's largest productions. We import 2% of asswipe. We have stockpiles to supply the whole world. But you dumasses are lining up because our trucks are only so big. There's a reason why Costco, Sam's Club, Safeway, etc have a fresh stock for you dumbasses to buy first thing in the morning.

I'm going to be annoyed at the first gofundme where someone bought up the tp and can't afford their rent because of their selfishness.
Some local stores have started limiting purchases of high demand products and I think that should be a thing everywhere. You wanna buy 50 packs of TP or bounty on Amazon? You have to send in a request to get more than a 16 pack and prove your providing for a larger number of people or something. Honestly people how much TP do you use in one sitting? I wipe around 5 times and I use a single damn square section for all but the first. You don't need a wad of TP encompassing your hand every time!

You just use a single square? Somehow I imagine your ass to be unsanitary.

I spread wide before starting and don't stop wiping till it's all clean. Now obviously if I had some sort of digestive issue I'm gonna use more but if it's solid yeah just one at a time is good and two fingers. Also I guess I use the nicer Charmin stuff. Used to use store brand and would double that up

Regarding food banks, I'm going to check those out. It's really hit and miss since quite a bit if it is expired. At least that's been my exprrience.

Plus I don't even have money for transportation. Even so taking the bus is a risk, especially here, where there's a lot of gross people on them and I have to mention again, I care for an elderly sick person so I have to serious social distance.

Plus I'm gonna need money for more than just food.

As far as charity, people are all looking out for themselves. 99 percent of people don't have the money to spare and charity is limited. Shit, if I had money to spare, I'd be helping people out here.

Again, I despise socialism but I'm not against socialized programs like the ones we have but especially in a crisis situation such as this.

But then again I'm not some hardcore libertarian type or whatever.

They're limiting things because people are being stupid and buying 6 years worth of TP. There is absolutely no reason why people should be buying so much TP and when their rent comes due, I will have absolutely zero sympathy when the person who can make a fort out of their stockpiled TP is suddenly asking for help. They didn't give a flying fuck about their fellow citizen when shit went down.

People really do turn idiotic. We can ignore idiots until they come out in great enough numbers to effect everyone negatively I guess

The one thing that's concerning about the stimulus is that people are going to save it. Let's hope it gets spent.
I know this might not be possible but a "debit" type card that has a time limit to be spent so you can't hoard. That's one idea. Plus making sure money goes to people who actually need it.

If I'm not mistaking, only certain people are going to qualify for the free money. Not everyone is going to get it, like opa Yang Gang style.

Yeah that's technically a good idea to encourage spending (no card fees either), but then you gotta spend money managing that. I just prefer they hand out cash now.

Civilisation is predicated on the belief that government will keep shit under control. A tweet like that can tip the scales.

So, that corona shit has come to my country. And honestly, I think most people are insane. It is a god damn flu with a possibility to kill you. If you're younger then 60 you have extremely high chances of survival. More then 90 percent.
I went to buy filter tubes today to a local supermarket. I was shocked. People like fucking animals grabbing food, tp and other stuff. Fucking panicky hoarders. Honestly, I'm more afraid of people then the actual virus. This corona shit has people so hyped up and the media is just pouring gasoline on a fire. When people panick, they tend do do become like animals. And that's what worries me.
And this is gonna crush the economy. Isn't a better solution to just get on with our normal lives? If the survival rate is more then 90%, why not just go with the flow? Keep older citizens in isolation and everyone younger then 60 without some chronic lung condition just continue with their normal lives?

The issue isn’t just the survival rate as such. The virus spreads fast. A big enough percentage will require hospital treatment that hospital capacity will run out. The issue thus is hospital capacity. If we run out and people who need respirators can’t get them then the death rate starts climbing. That’s why we need to slow it down and flatten the curve.

The virus can use tools now? We are so screwed!

Mnuchin himself says he expects unemployment rates to hit 20%. 20% unemployment of a nation that is approximately around 350 million is 70 million people unemployed.

With no sign of financial relief in sight, how long do you think social order will hold up? Barring up windows seems like a logical step at this point before hardware stores sell out.

edit: Even discounting age ranges that's probably around 25 million able bodied adult individuals who are unemployed and pissed off.

It really feels like Canada is on the verge of a lockdown, they have done everything except lock down a few public facing industries.

My gf and kids have been home since Friday and everyday I’m leaving for work again, and I’m sure they see me as radioactive when I get home.

Now I just play this as I’m leaving.

What are you talking about?

Italy had ~3,500 new cases per day for 4 days in succession. But the growth would have had to be much higher if the lockdown had not started to work. Italy had a growth factor of 0 (zero) for the last 4 days. Educate yourself. You just have to look at the percentage growth in all other countries or in countries with lockdown about one week before the lockdown was forced. The figures of Italy give real justification for hoping that the peak will soon be reached and that the number of new infections will fall daily thereafter.

Of course, 90% of people here don't understand this. It's just easier to whine and if you don't have balls anyway, you just don't care and you just cry like a pussy.

They also did less testing so those numbers could mean anything. Next days will tell the whole picture.

Four in a row indicates a tendency. Of course everything can get worse again, but if the majority of people stick to the lockdown, the numbers will fall soon. It's just a law of nature.

Looking for some advice, preferably from those here that have a better understanding of the science of Covid-19.

Regardless of what the US government says, we'd like to stock up on essential grocery items, enough to last us (family of 4) the next two months or so. We just recently started using grocery delivery, and obviously now things are kind of a mess, delays and all. We'd make it if we got serious about rationing, but if we can provide some normalcy for our kids, I'd prefer it. They are far from spoiled right now.

Because a lot of things are out of stock or delivery windows are booked out days in advance, my wife is frustrated and told me she is thinking of going to the grocery store near us. I told her we should only consider it if she is willing to take a lot of precautions. As I've mentioned before, I'm 2 years into a clinical trial for cancer, doing great, numbers wise (markers for detection in my blood). We've been on self imposed quarantine as an extra precaution, and haven't been around anyone else for the past 2 weeks.

What can she do beside wearing a mask, keeping distance from others as much as possible, and washing up well when she gets back / washing her clothes immediately? I'm hearing mixed things about how long the virus lives on surfaces, so the last time we got a delivery from target I had the person drop it off in our open garage and let it sit out there for five hours before we brought it in. Any produce we buy will be fruit that has a skin that can be peeled or have the skin removed like apples oranges and bananas.

Again, I don't trust our government to do the right thing, and want to make sure my family has enough to get by for the next two months, but I'm seriously hesitant to send her out and potential bring the virus back home. I understand that there's only so much I can do.

I'm making some amends to people right now. I'm feeling hopeless and I don't think I need to go any further but I think you know where I'm headed.

It's both due to my finances, living situation and health. Sorry but that's how it is and it sucks.

(I'm saying how I feel not necessarily action)

Nah, man, it's not all that bad. I like your posts. Maybe just stay off the net for a bit. At least social media. I'm thinking of doing the same. Deleting FB already. Orwell was right, we don't want to live in a society like this, but it's our choice what our life is really like.

One of my most inspiring quotes, is by Buddha, "It is your mind that creates this world."

Doesn't matter who you are, a believer, an NPC, a conspiracy theorist, an atheist, a flu bro, a failure, a winner, (or a loser like me too!) you can find peace in this life.

The birds are alive outside my window, the sun is shining, I know I can say prayers and make amends too. I can practice meditation, I can read. I know there are people in the world like me, better people too, we're not lost, we can only be found, it just takes time.

Edit: I saw your other posts about how serious it's gotten for you. Sorry then, I guess as you're dealing with all that, just know that life can change for the good in an instant.

Good shit, I agree. I've never been a fan of social media because I feel like it's just a way for narcissists to indulge in their worst instincts, and most news media are businesses who probably prefer that we stay scared and docile. We are going to be ok. Sure we can assume that the world is going to go to shit and that everything is going to fall down around us but it sure does feel more comfortable to think that maybe this will make all of us examine what's important in life and start to cherish it more.

Maybe going on to forums and arguing with one another over which plastic electronics box is the best will turn into more time spent appreciating that we even have these magical boxes in the first place. We will get through this.

No, no... 5 residents.... but that’s in just ten days.

This is a care-home, btw. Of note is the word ‘home’. A very large one, in this case. Our facility is NOT a hospital. We don’t have the same equipment as a hospital, nor are our staff as well trained (nor are they as well paid - not nearly).

Essentially, ours is a home that happens to be filled with elderly people who have sever immune deficiencies.

Quick summary:

Day one: a single nurse is diagnosed with Covid19, but unfortunately she’s the first ‘community spread’. This means that in B.C. the virus cannot be traced back, and therefore cannot be contained.

Day 10: 17 residents are positive as well as 14 care-givers (at least). 5 are dead. More are sick. Staff members are so frightened they aren’t going to work. Everyone’s overworked and completely stressed. Everyone’s fighting an enemy they can’t see. It feels like it’s everywhere.

If you had told me that within ten days of one person testing positive all of B.C. would begin to shut down, I would’ve walked away thinking you insane. Which is exactly how my family and friends treated me for the first seven days. I tried to warn everyone about what was coming - but all they did was get angry. Finally they’re coming around. Weirdly, they seem to think that they knew perfectly well what was coming - and that I was just being hysterical.

Lesson to be learnt: Care Homes are going to be hammered.
———————

BTW, one of my favourite residents passed away today after testing positive three days ago. I will miss him.
Oh man I am so very sorry :(

Please be careful and stay safe.

Good grief! The infected woman in my town flew into the local airport on the night of March 15th and called the hospital the next day with Covid symptoms. What an absolute moron. God knows how many people she infected along the way.

Oh fuck, imagine the economic impact...

We need cure within months from now.
It's situation where commie states are prepared much better than capitalist countries and when planned economy works much better.
at some point, we will need to reopen everything and just all get infected probably... or we will all die because of econoomic reasons anyway :p
