Is there any chance, say in December, this thing could have been misdiagnosed by an urgent care PA as viral bronchitis?

I was legit sick for two weeks with a nasty dry cough, shortness of breath (I couldn't even read to my kid) and a low grade fever...

Probably overthinking it but still, has me wondering.

So when they say 60-80% will be infected, is that the point where no one can infect anybody else because there is no un infected left since 96-99% test negative.

Anyone wanna take bets on whose work (that didn't let them work from home even though they can) will get an outbreak first?

Hell, there's already exposure, reported to management, at mine going on and management gives no fucks. So the odds are in my favor, but still.

I have a feeling this is going to be one of the next series of news stories that's going to start coming out in the US; outbreaks at employers that wouldn't budge.

There's some lip service and some actual good measures going on at mine. I actually just talked to my boss because I found out a lot of smaller factories in my area are shutting down and got in a bit of a panic, but my job should be okay. If it hits the factory really bad and knocks out our older workforce young salaried guys like me will probably be temporarily "conscripted" into the union positions.

Our product is pretty stable in this market as well, as a lot of it goes to China.

So glad my firm is being proactive; though working from home alongside 75% of global employees sucks balls.

Well, read that a teacher in the school district where I live has it. I have no kids, but there are two schools that I can look at outside my window and my wife still has to work every day (retail). All I can think is please don't be either of these schools near me, especially with unknown amount of kids in my apartment complex (120 units). I can feel the darkness closing in.

been a really long day for that tracker. near 16K new cases for the day still about an hour or so left I think

Is your VPN slow? My company is in the process of switching to a new system with local servers.
It has to be something with their infrastructure, yea. So I imagine it's something like that. I don't think they have any plans to move servers or anything, we'll see. It honestly feels like running a 386 on dialup at times. Driving me crazy!

Imagine if this happened to your town/area, what would you do?

Supermarkets here are already kind of picked over, but we're big enough I don't really fear for restocking.. but imagine if you were out of the way a bit.. and people came in and just bought everything right out from under you.

How did they get it back? The busses could fit everything?
Yeah, I'm calling bullshit on that one.

My family lives 400kms from Melbourne in a small town and the locals have already stripped their supermarkets of anything worthwhile. That lady is just looking to blame Melbourne and doesn't want to accept that when push comes to shove even her local community isn't so lovely and caring anymore.

I'm hoping our new one is faster. I do process control work (along with a lot of other hats) so I do have to be on site for PLC programming, but a lot of my job is data analysis and troubleshooting. Pretty much all the data in my area of the factory is available to look at remotely, so I can diagnose issues and direct our operators to fix problems or speed up production. . .but it's slow as hell and freezes a lot.

Yea, good luck! Our work can be done remotely, lots of entitlements processing and database stuff, but also slow as hell and freezing right now.

"European leaders have moved to shut the EU's external borders as they grapple with the quickly spreading virus. The measure is expected to apply to 26 EU states as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. The ban came as deaths continued to soar across Europe. Italy remains the worst-hit country with another big surge in cases today. Spain has also partially locked down its 47 million inhabitants In Germany Chancellor Merkel has banned religious services and venues including clubs, bars, leisure facilities, zoos and playgrounds will also be closed. In France tough new restrictions have come into force. No one can now leave home without a government form - that they print out - to justify their reason for being outside. For the next two weeks, people are only allowed out - to go to work, to buy essential food or medical supplies, for a family emergency, or to exercise or walk a dog - but they must be on their own -- facing a fine if these conditions aren't met." Americans should "only purchase enough food and essentials for the week ahead," FDA says

The US Food and Drug Administration said in a statement Tuesday there are no nationwide food shortages, although some stores may temporarily have low supplies of some items before they can restock.

The agency said it is in close contact with grocery stores and food manufacturers to monitor the food supply chain for any possible shortages.

“While we are confident that stores will remain open and supply will continue to meet demand nationwide, we ask all Americans to only purchase enough food and essentials for the week ahead," FDA Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn said in a statement from the agency.
In the statement, the agency said it was relaxing some of its requirements to limit disruptions in the food supply chain.

Sounds about right.

The TSA can declare this rule change because the limit was always arbitrary, just one of the countless rituals of security theater to which air passengers are subjected every day. Flights are no more dangerous today, with the hand sanitizer, than yesterday, and if the TSA allowed you to bring 12 ounces of shampoo on a flight tomorrow, flights would be no more dangerous then. The limit was bullshit. The ease with which the TSA can toss it aside makes that clear.

All over America, the coronavirus is revealing, or at least reminding us, just how much of contemporary American life is bullshit, with power structures built on punishment and fear as opposed to our best interest. Whenever the government or a corporation benevolently withdraws some punitive threat because of the coronavirus, it’s a signal that there was never any good reason for that threat to exist in the first place.

Each day of this public health crisis brings a new example. People thrown in jail for minor offenses? San Antonio is one of many jurisdictions to announce that, to keep jails from being crowded with sick citizens, they’ll stop doing that. Why were they doing it in the first place?

The federal government charging interest on loans to attend college? Well, Donald Trump has instructed government agencies who administer loans to waive interest accrual for the duration of the crisis. But why on earth is our government charging its own citizens interest anyway?

Broadband data caps and throttled internet? Those have been eliminated by AT&T and other internet service providers, because of the coronavirus. But data caps and throttling were really just veiled price hikes that served no real technical purpose. Why did we put up with them?

and now I get to panic, wifey told me somebody she works with has it....I can just feel a panic attack coming

Hang in there brother, and keep us updated as much as you need to. Also, all my years of poor impulse control that led to a giant backlog of games might be vindicated through quarantine.

Keep calm the best you can. There is no proof your wife has it, nor is it a death sentence. Just stay indoors and keep a close watch for any symptoms that may develop.

You will be fine and for what it's worth, GAF has your back.

If you actually look at Italy it looks like they may have peaked a bit, some leveling off. But we will see. Deaths as well.

Italy is stabilizing right now, they have some tough weeks ahead though.

For my American buddy's, guy's I think your in for some trouble.

So, that corona shit has come to my country. And honestly, I think most people are insane. It is a god damn flu with a possibility to kill you. If you're younger then 60 you have extremely high chances of survival. More then 90 percent.
I went to buy filter tubes today to a local supermarket. I was shocked. People like fucking animals grabbing food, tp and other stuff. Fucking panicky hoarders. Honestly, I'm more afraid of people then the actual virus. This corona shit has people so hyped up and the media is just pouring gasoline on a fire. When people panick, they tend do do become like animals. And that's what worries me.
And this is gonna crush the economy. Isn't a better solution to just get on with our normal lives? If the survival rate is more then 90%, why not just go with the flow? Keep older citizens in isolation and everyone younger then 60 without some chronic lung condition just continue with their normal lives?

So what exactly are the details with Trump's possible plan to cut checks to people?

Will you need to go to a website and sign up to see if you're eligible because me an person I care for gonna need some help asap.

Has Trump given details?

I won't be taking a check because even though I desperately need it I won't support the redistribution of wealth. Every dollar that's given to one person is taken from another person. It's nothing but theft. I recognize the truth that this is nothing but the start of the Universal Basic Income. There's nothing in the constitution that supports social programs like social security, medicare, food stamps, or the UBI.

Fresh data from Korea (3.17 00:00 ~ 3.18 00:00)

8,931 newly tested
93 additional cases (8,413 total)
139 released from quarantine
3 additional deaths (84 total)

While the daily increases are still in the double digits (as opposed to the triple digits from last week), it jumped back up into the 90s. Guess the watch is still on.

The economy concern is legit. However, do you want to be the one that brought back a virus that, while you got through it with a few coughs and sniffles, ends up being a devastating blow to your parents or your aunts/uncles, or any other elderly relative/friend you've got?

Don't get me wrong, I don't think your concern is baseless or stupid, but you do have to be able to look at the other side of it--especially since COVID-19's infection rate is ridiculously high.

But that's what I'm saying. Get the older population in isolation and problem solved, right?

I just went to taco bell and it was totally empty except for one other customer. I'm not too awful worried about getting corona virus in my town because there's not a single case in the area.

I’m in Western Australia where the cases are up to about 30. The federal government has banned meetings of 100 people or more but yet still continues our workfare program ‘work for the dole’. I’m okay working for benefits but keeping it going now is just insane. If I didn’t have to go out to the city 4 days a week on the bus and train, then I would be basically quarantined. Is suspending workfare for 1 or 2 months so, so difficult? I am wondering if workfare will be cancelled first or the city of Perth completely locked down, i’m betting the city will be locked down first. Disappointing times.😕

We should of literally quarantined people over 55. If you are over 55 stay home for 3 months, no contact with people except essential services. Put some people to work to deliver food and meds to them. We can video conference on smart phones with them to talk to them. Old age homes would require testing and other precautions/protections.

Sure it would suck for those old people to basically lock them away. But would that not have been better that stopping the entire world? Clearly in today's world you can't do that but I guess if you could go back in time when the first 5 or 10 cases broke out in your country and you could chose to lock away all the people over 60n a hard lock down, or everyone which would you chose?

That’s the immoral action, why would you refuse having money stolen from you by the government returned to you?
