Do you think it was the right decision for Sony to skip this specific E3?

Sonys skipping having an E3 conference this year (and booth space) which seems kind of odd to me because this is the E3 and general time period (June where new console talk hype is strongest, this even includes Stadia, a new gaming platform which imo will fail but it's still going to ride the hype wave.

I think that if Sony wanted to skip event they should have skipped the PS exclusive events and gamescom (which they are) and kept E3 open. But now it's ind of strange that for the first time in years Sony isn't apart of the E3 hype.

What do you think?

It's good that they're not going to E3 itself, the show is an irrelevant dinosaur at this point and Nintendo shows that a company doesn't need to be on stage there. However E3 month is still important so if Sony skipping E3 means they're skipping out of the whole E3 hype train, then that's bad. Nintendo show the way; do your own thing, but do 'something' to ride that train.

ITs dumb to skip it because it’s for the fans. That being said Sony has a die hard fan base and they aren’t going to lose any fans by not going.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Sony has been there since the beginning, E3 without Sony is kinda like Avengers without Ironman.
I have zero hype for E3, even watching MS conference is not gonna be the same without Sony's follow up.

If they had nothing new to show, yes it was the right decision. Now, is it the right decision to not have anything new to show is a different question. I think that is where the wrong decision was made.

It'll be fine as long as PS5 is either more powerful than the new Xbox, significantly better priced, or has some absolutely killer exclusives lined up. If it isn't, it might backfire on them a bit. It won't seriously threaten their dominant position in the market (especially in Europe and Asia), but they'll be missing out on a lot of hype.

It's an impossible question to answer until the years out. If there's a massive PS5 reveal event coming up I'm sure that will make up for them skipping E3.

It will probably be a bad move for Sony to skip it, but they won't start to feel the tides turn until next gen.

Conference yes (for a good reason), but Nintendo is still at E3. They still also have E3 presentations and live events.

Which didn't stop them from going to E3 the last 3 times.

Why spend the money when they're about to unveil the PS5? That's the difference. The last 3 years they weren't on the precipice of launching a new console which will have it's own event to itself with all the media that goes with it.

Not having the PlayStation brand represented at E3 I think is a mistake.

However I would expect a State of Play sometime soon or a controlled “leak” will suddenly just drop regarding next generation.

While Sony won't be having a show at E3, they will more than likely have a major presence.

I would be very shocked if Sony doesn't make some noise sometime after the MS press conference.

Voted NO.

I'm a Sony guy and while I understand their decision, it still sucks because you have everyone else still being there and having a showcase so why couldn't Sony do the same? Granted, we would be seeing the same few games as last year but im sure they could get some Japanese games like Granblue Fantasy games, Judgment and others as well as Control which they have the marketing rights to and a few other third party titles to round out an hour showcase.

What Sony truly needs to do is eliminate the stupid presentation ideas. It's simply fluff, overdone, not needed and a waste of money. Just have the stage itself setup great and give me game after game after game and im more than satisfied.

On the positive side, Microsoft is about to have one hell of an E3 showcase and the third parties will have good to great showcases as well plus Sony will return next year for E3 2020 as they will be showing PlayStation 5 and the launch titles. So while I do believe that it was simply the wrong decision, I do understand it even though I don't like or agree with the decision.

Honestly yes, if they showed up it would be a really bad E3 because they dont have anything to show at the moment

It doesn't matter.

They're leading this generation and they some of the most anticipated exclusive games lined up to finish this generation. Not only that, Dreams seem to be getting a lot of attention and I think it's only going to grow when consumers get their hands on the project and start creating games.

Don't have anything to show?

They clearly stated they have exclusive games that are going to be announced soon and I'm sure they're just picking the right time to reveal them.

Well. If Sony has nothing to show, then why pay a mass ton of money to have a booth and so on? Can't imagine that it's cheap.

If it wasn’t for GAF, I’d care very little about E3. So no, I don’t think Sony made a mistake.

Quite frankly the whole thing is out of date imo. Id enjoy a PSX or Xbox...X (lol) vastly more than E3 or TGS

Seems like Nintendo might be right about live conferences at e3 not being worthwhile. Put together a controlled video and achieve the same amount of hype.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

I imagine it'd still be a small price to pay. All the multiplatform games are now being presented by Microsoft. Sony's going to be losing some mindshare I think.

If they honestly had nothing, or very little, of anything brand new to show after last year, and honestly felt it would be an underwhelming show, then I feel it’s the right decision.

Clearly they aren’t ready to unveil the PS5 and will probably do that on their own turf.

Sony should have the PS5 ready to show at this E3. It feels like the right time, since they have no new PS4 software to hold us over until next year.

With all the YouTube Facebook Twitter Instagram of this world , I think the E3 is becoming more irrelevant . Did Sony did it because they realize it too ? Go figure

But NO. Major mistake for PS, unfortunately.

Sony is giving me shades of 05 with their cocky attitude, and that’s especially sad given how much Tretton built it back and have so much fan service to us.

Giving XB the only major stage of the big 3 is such a bad move.

Obviously we can't know yet, but probably yes otherwise they would be there with some exciting content, right? If they showed up with nothing against the conference we're expecting from Microsoft, it would be brutal.

I'm not reaching for shit. Putting E3 together isn't free. You're ignoring the obvious. The world doesn't stop bcs Sony skips E3. Sony doesn't need E3. E3 needs Sony. Is that simple enough to understand?

You're reaching badly. Sony isn't spending 50 million in r&D on e3.

Silly for them to skip and give Microsoft free reign to market games unchallenged. All the media hype and information for the next week will have Microsoft name attached to it, even if much of the games are multi plat
