I'm still surprised this thread gets locked when the summer sale is going on. The "it's to inject new blood to the community" narrative has never produced any actual results. Most of the other people in the forum don't give a shit about non-sale related stuff, and you can't get actual newcomers to this thread while having it completely closed. Barely anyone in the summer sale thread will see the "oh btw join us at the SteamGAF thread in community" at the end of the sale. Shit, now that there isn't any daily deals, barely anyone will be checking the summer sale thread in the last day to begin with.
Like last year, discussion on the summer sale thread will fall off a cliff after the first few days.

Even then you see a lot of people in the normal sale thread that only engage in "Steam talk" during a sale. Heck. Most dont even know when a game was 90% off a few days before.

I agree. Makes no sense to lock the thread because most people who post in the Sale threads just stay there on Gaming Discuss. Doesn't help matters that this thread is locked so even if they want to come here, they simply can't.

this might get buried but does anyone have a recommended games list that they use for ideas of what to get during the sale. I'm just looking at RPS' top games of 2017 and some random GAF lists. Its...actually pretty hard to find a decent list of hidden gem games on gaf

There'll probably be a Hidden Gems thread this sale (basically for the exact reason you describe), watch out for it. There'll be a ton of good low-visibility suggestions in there. If you're interested in something particular, that'll also be a good high-traffic place to ask for recommendations. Those threads are always the best.
For bigger titles, Steam generally has them plastered all over the store; so don't worry about missing them.
I've been wanting Hollow Knight since it released but I think I'm going to be patient and buy it on my Switch.

When a Steam sale event starts, usually Toma or Tizoc or Dusk Golem creates a Hidden Gems of Steam Sale thread a day or two after the initial start of said sale. Just look out for that thread over ay Gaming Discuss.

It's banned on GAF. But basically it's a card game were you can rub girls to strip them and make them more powerful.

Its a game you are not allowed to talk about on GAF.
Its a singleplayer TCG game. At one point though it gets really really hard, because the enemy all of a sudden has super strong cards.

As always, i'll be only getting games that are on my wishlist right now that have sufficient discounts. Oh, i will also try for the first time to not buy games that i know i won't play until winter sale (as if that's gonna work...). Reaching 500 steam games was the point where i started questioning my purchase policy - games kept piling up faster than i could play them (even though a big chunk of those 500 is some bundle\giveaway stuff i'm definitely never playing).
So far, the only game i'm going to buy with 100% certainty is Nier, no matter what discount it gets. I've already bought Hitman today, that would be another certain purchase - other than that, i might just skip this sale, unless some price mistakes happen

For you and others? Likely not. However, I bought one ages ago (love it) and have a Vizio TV or something (I rarely use it for gaming) so this works great for me. Also my living room TV and bedroom TV are 1080p because consoles.
