Johnny Depp Allegedly Uses an Earpiece to Feed Him Lines

Fine if you don't care, but it certainly labels him as an extremely overrated actor. Good actors don't need to do this.

Wait, what? Has this ever been implied?

In the OP.

Hmm he may be an ass, but why is this entitlement?

I go to work. I earn money. The money is mine. I can spend it on whatever I choose. Same applies to all.

I think, because the managers are being charged with fraud, their counterpoint is that Depp's money problems are all his own because he feels entitled to making ridiculous purchases left and right.

Which, I agree isn't a totally appropriate word of "entitlement" (it's his money and he can piss it away how he sees fit), I think it's just context for their "It's not our fault" defense.

In most of is output sure. However, it's TREMENDOUSLY disrespectful of the other actors. They all worked harder than he did. And it's not like he's effing Laurence Olivier. Dude is doing a one note amble through his career where makeup and funny voices are his entire range.
Except almost all his old movies, or stuff like Black Mass.

If you define good actors by their ability to memorize lines, soap opera actors would beat movie actors by lengths. They don't even need rehearsal.

For you.

Nah, that's not how it works. Your quality as an actor is not defined by how well you memorise your lines. Never was, never will be.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
Was thinking the same thing. I have heard of more than a few actors that do this.
I personally cannot even fathom how it could be done, but I do here it is in fact a pretty common practice.

I work in live entertainment including theater and there are more and more theater actors who try to wear ear pieces. Some have even used teleprompters on stage. Al Pacino got a shit ton of flack for this in the Broadway play China Doll a few years ago. It also happens in movies and TV as well.

I love stories of the no fuck given/ lazy Brando movies.

Blurting out police radio mid take always cracks me up.

Brando was always like this but I don't think people realize this. He had a notorious appetite, for women as much as food, even when he was a young hot stud and was known for drinking gallons of milk, eating several steaks in one sitting and just gorging himself. Before he was slated to start filming many of his classics Brando would go through some rather harsh starvation stuff to lose the weight he'd put on last minute.

Where? Apologies if I'm missing something, but I can't see anything.

It's just the managers' charge, but:

The new complaint also suggests Depp should submit to a mental health evaluation during the proceedings.

"Depp's extravagant spending has often been marked by a lack of impulse control," writes Kump. "In retrospect, it appears that Depp may suffer from a compulsive spending disorder, which will be proven in this action through a mental examination of Depp ... and expert testimony. On information and belief, Depp's flagrant bragging about his senseless and extreme spending to The Wall Street Journal is further evidence of his psychological issues."

Yeah, after his mother died, Brando just stopped giving a shit about taking the job seriously, though he still managed to produce some of the best performances of his career. It was only much later in life when he realized that it was a job to be proud of, but by then he was way past his prime and probably not that far off from his death.

Not that unusual. A guy I know who was an extra on The Departed mentioned Nicholson had the same thing. He flipped the fuck out when the guy on the other end didn't do it to his liking, too.

Nicholson was having trouble remembering lines at all by that point. He retired in part because he just couldn't memorize them properly anymore. He wasn't lazy, he was just getting old.

Sounds like a non issue to me.

He should stop being in shit movies

Yep. Black Mass was just ok and public enemies was a real disappointment (albeit still worth a watch as a Mann fan) but Depp was pretty dope in both

This news is no big deal. And I honestly assumed he was doing this for years considering how often he would mention brando doing it

who cares honestly? he is a professional at the top of his field, he is making huge Disney money, he has been doing this for decades. he can invest in his craft. he can spend the money he made how he wants to. if the movies made that much money, largely because of him, imo he deserves this stuff.

"14 residences, 45 luxury vehicles, 70 collectible guitars and enough Hollywood memorabilia to fill 12 storage facilities."

this is the US, it was founded on the idea of the free market, about if you want to make tons of money and then spend that on stuff, go for it. it is the American Dream. is he hurting anyone? is he swindling these people or not paying his bills? no, this doesn't say anything like that, just that some lawyers are unhappy with how he spends his own money. as for an earpiece. again. Disney movies. huge, giant blockbusters. he can have a fucking sound man. he can have an earpiece so he can get a mix and hear what he sounds like. this doesn't make him lazy, he is investing in his craft. these movies are actors talking to green screens later filled in with cgi, this seems like creating a controversy out of nothing. these lawyers trying to get a piece. no wonder they are his former managers.

To be fair if I was rich as fuck, then time becomes the most valuable resource. Why spend time memorizing when I can spend money to achieve the same thing?

Of all the crazy costs in Hollywood, paying someone to prompt an actor for lines hardly seems extravagant at all. Whatever.

If it works, I see no issue

What is this? As if I'm supposed to just recognize an old black and white movie.

He also had an appetite for lots of cock.

Yea I don't really give a shit if he uses an earpiece or not. Hell I can't blame an actor if they do use an earpiece of if someone just reads it to them before the take. Whatever works for them works.

I don't care per se, but this is when an actor is just phoning it in. I mean, it makes so much sense. I always just figured age made him crap, but he just doesn't care apparently.

A lot of actors when they stop caring start doing this, or using que cards. But it never makes for a good performance. If it doesn't get in the way of a good performance, go for it.

As long as the public realizes he's an entitled, untalented fuck who doesn't deserve the recognition he getting.
