I always wonder what made the MC of Persona 3, 4, and 5 able to change their Persona despite "being special or so the player won't get bored". If you think about it everyone in the Persona universe who can summon their Persona is beyond special but the MC is like so utterly uniquely unique. Even if he can only carry 8 Persona's with him he's basically a highly mobile army with ulmost limitless power. Is there a piece of lore that explains why some individuals can Summon multiple Persona's?

The "lore" reason is basically just "protags got special Wild Card powers, I dunno." The real-world reason is that they were going for a very specific tone in Persona 3, where they wanted the other major characters to feel like independent entities from the protagonist, which is why you couldn't control their Personas or even what they did in battle (outside of broad "tactics"). Later games just carried that over because "that's what Persona 3 did."

Which was a smart decision for sure.

Worst part is that I didn't manage to get the treasure persona there.

I hadn't gotten my stuff set up to abuse criticals for a knock down and no weaknesses = bad times.

The one time it spawned for me in 6 was in a tiny room full of tables and chairs that you can take cover behind. I couldn't even attack it and it ran away because pressing X kept putting me in to cover. I was so salty.

I just used the Gun special skill that auto-downs from the Tower Persona.

Palace 6 Spoilers

Also now that I can actually
look at Shadow Sae's model, I'm super curious if she actually has any real world tattoos. Most likely not lol

I really recommend reading this interview about Persona 3, which has a lot of insight into why some of the systems in that game (and later Persona games) are the way they are. Note that it does have some major P3 spoilers in it. Regarding the Wild Card in particular:

SO IF THESE PERSONAE ARE THINGS THAT YOU BUILD BETWEEN YOURSELF AND OTHERS, IT IS EASY TO SEE HOW THE HERO MIGHT HAVE MULTIPLE PERSONAE TO UTITLIZE… BUT WHAT DOES THAT SAY ABOUT HIS PARTY MEMBERS AND THEIR INABILITY TO HAVE MORE THAN ONE PERSONA?

HASHINO: That was a compromise we had to make for the game. The player needs to relate to the Hero more than the other characters, so we game the player a tangible system through which they could manage all of the Hero’s personae. It is completely reasonable to think that, in terms of psychological personae, the other characters had various ones for when they were shopping, hanging out with friends, and doing a multitude of other things that the Hero has absolutely nothing to do with. We just couldn’t bring all of that into the mix because we needed some way to create a definitive separation between the Hero and the other characters, from the player’s point of view.

SO A SIMPLE WAY TO EXPLAIN IT WOULD BE TO SAY THAT THE ONLY REASON WHY THE OTHER CHARACTERS ONLY SEEMED TO HAVE ONE PERSONA WAS BECAUSE THAT WAS THE PERSONA THEY HELD FOR THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE HERO.

HASHINO: That’s an excellent way to explain it.

SOEJIMA: I… had no idea.

HASHINO: Did you really think the other characters were just one-dimensional? Of course they have complicated minds and hearts, just like us. We just couldn’t make that a part of the gameplay because messing with and controlling other peoples’ personae would have just been…

…WRONG?

HASHINO: Yes! It would have been wrong, for this game. There are a lot of RPGs out there where you can control every aspect of your party members, including what kind of underwear they are wearing… but because we wanted the player to relate to the Hero more than any other character in “Persona 3”, we wanted the other characters to feel like “other people”.

SOEJIMA: It was important to make that distinction. It helped to emphasize the concept of Social Links, and it also allowed us to show off the improved AI. It would have been extra cool if the party members had been completely free of player control, but we knew that would be pushing it a bit too far, so we gave the player control over their equipment at least.

HASHINO: It’s true that we got some feedback stating that the party system was “too difficult” to control effectively, but I’ll honestly say that I don’t regret doing what we did with it. I’m glad we stuck to our guns on that one.

The MC being a wild card is something that, if I remember correctly, Igor mentions as the MC's heart affecting others. Like, all the characters in the story would not really even interact with each other without the MC being the chain that holds them together. And the whole social link aspect is the effect of being the wild card, and is why personas of that arcana get stronger when someone pours out their feelings in front of the MC.

Although, it is also just because it makes the gameplay more fun. :p

edit: cool, never saw that interview before ^

It's hilarious that Hashino also talks about the moral implications of P5 ten years prior to its release.

Edit: Wow.

Re: The 4th palace arc

Totally solid all around. First off, the lead in to this arc was great; Medjed throwing down, the mysterious Alibaba, murmurs from the government, some shocking reveals and a departure from the previous format. I had a vague idea of how things would play for the first two arcs based on pre-release info alone, but I was totally in the dark about this one. I didn't expect Futaba to be so strong as a character either. She's crazy compelling, and she ties into the narrative in an interesting way. Great character, and Erica Lindbeck just kills it when it comes to voice acting.

The dungeon itself was fun to explore. Enemies were pretty interesting (wassup Thoth/Anubis), the puzzles were good and I just loved the feel of it (been a while since I explored a pyramid in a game). The boss was a step up from the previous one too, though not in terms of challenge (Ryuji and Yusuke just obliterated with their multi-hitting phys skills), but most because it was just fun and enjoyable.

The game's throwing up a ton of plot threads at this point and a part of me just wants to gun it, but I'm going to stick with my current pace. It's only going to get more crazy from here.

Lol, all the Mishima haters need to rank up the Hermit confidant fast. Rank 5 light spoilers:
Futaba straight up calls him an NPC right to his face because she finds him completely unremarkable.

Thanks for the link and introducing me to this info! I read about a third at what's on the link. Will finish the rest later, sadly I need to go and be a responsible adult right now. I love learning about stuff like this.

I had 3 and got "just above average". No idea how you get to 4 by that point in the game.
You take advantage of rainy days at the diner. I had 4 by that point.

That all said, I don't think it's worth focusing as much as I did. I kind of regretted getting Knowledge up so early.

So it's been a while since I've gotten another Mementos request since the second one (The Bark and Bite of a Bully). Do I have to do this one before other unlock?

, would you say thats about half way? 4th arc is starting to shape up too.

Everyone is kind of unnecessarily mean to Ryuji. Pretty much constantly provoking him in conversation lol

I mean he is a freaking idiot like all of the time. I have a hard time believing anyone in the cast would have let him join them if he had not been with you at the start.

i hate the look of those 2 students MC is following to listen for gossip. their heads are wobbling like cheap flash animation. looks totally off, like shoddy work.

So that's the type of guy you are, huh Ryuji...

9/9:
Sometimes I wonder if Ann has considered dating Ryuji lol

Nah, Ann is clearly into the mc. Problem is that even if you're already dating her at that point the game simply doesn't care and doesn't adjust the conversations to reflect that lol

That part was weird as hell for me, my gf asking me what kind of girl i'm into hahaha

Goddammit Ryuji...

Edit: Of course the best selection here is
a painting of Ann.

Thanks! Is there a difference for top 10 or ace?

The trophy? I haven't actually gotten it yet but plan on it soon since fall exams are coming up for me.
