The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ |OT| 200 More Hours of Bad Keeper Runs

Some devil item rooms are so good its dumb NOT to take them if you see them, and only a few angel room items are really good, so your call really.

You can still get to an angel room even after taking a devil deal via sacrifice rooms

There's also an item you can eventually get that spawns both angel and devil doors.

Mega Satan
might be a pain but at least you can hold r to win for Greed/Greedier

I think for Stan, I'll just get the key piece via the Sacrifice room as another character and then try and find a Missing Poster and then just die in front of the door and respawn. What helped is I had crazy high luck for some reason and the Contract from Below, and so I was often getting double chests. Blank Card + Jera on those chests, open two of them, see if one had a Trinket, if it did, clone a billion of them until I got the Poster.

What made the Delirium run a particularly good run was that I had Holy Mantle. Without that, I would have probably went and fought Mega Satan on this run, instead of Delirium.

It's not quite as easy to cheese Keeper, though. I did get the Clicker once and did Keeper's ??? fight, but that was one time out of pure luck. No way would I be able to do it consistently enough to fill his entire post it without actually doing most of the run with him.

Holy shit this game is so good! Never got into this genre before but caved and bought this because I wanted something else to play on the switch.

Just beat mom for the first time after about 8-10 runs. It's so fun seeing how diverse and crazy the items and combination of items can be. Definitely a just one more run type of game, perfect portable game too.

Do items unlocked in the base game show up in the challenge runs?
So so hooked on this game, didn't like the ~$50aud digital price but I'll be damned if I don't do a run or two on my switch whenever I can.

I believe so. Only Daily Challenges have all items unlocked.

Good lord Mystery Box + Void is stupid. Had an all Razor Shot AND Tooth Shot with God Head + Sacred Heart. Had ~100 damage with 3 fire rate. No way they leave this like it is now

It's the most broke the game has ever been. They're absolutely going to fix it. You can grab infinite items from whatever pool you want.

Had my first run where I found and killed Satan! I was playing as Eden. By the end of the run, I had 5 familiars (although one was the dead cat) and like 20 flies around me? Satan died in a few seconds and it was glorious.

This game is so much fun.

Hey, is it just me, or are the first few floors buffed in difficulty in Afterbirh+ compared to Rebirth / Afterbirth?

Most certainly.

I think this is the weakest the item pool has been (in terms of percentages/ratio of weak/strong items) in all of Isaac, especially during the first floors and when you don't have everything unlocked. For example, angel rooms are basically objectively worse compared to devil rooms until you get the Mind/Body/Soul trifecta (and arguably still worse after that).

Loving this game so much! Did about 7 or 8 more runs last night and mostly failed when I got to the depths. Not even been to "womb" rooms yet, unfortunately., Last night was plagued with bad luck and me doing daft stuff like getting confused with the controls and dropping bombs on myself.

Is the game playable using the joycons? I played it for 100+ hours on PC, and I'd like to buy it to play in handheld mode now, but I'm not sure the joycon sticks are decent enough to control a fast pace twin stick shooter like this...

I played TONS on PS4, and I think the joycons are fine. Never played on pc though.

My wife is laying unintentional bombs, but I don't know if that's a faulty joycon issue, or she's just getting used to new controllers. It's happened to me maybe once.

Apparently he wants to upgrade the Angel Pool via Booster items.

It's going to be hard to do better than the Devil Pool, though. Very rarely will a not good item be in the room.

Abbaddon
The Pact
Guppy Pieces
Dark Bum
Satanic Bible
Book of Belial
Brimstone
Lil Brimstone
Rotten Baby
Incubus
Succubus
The Mark
Coal
Mega Blast

That's a lot of items to water down Brother Bobby and Dig Deeper.

Meanwhile Angel Rooms have Holy Water. They probably thought throwing Delirious in there was meant to be the Devil version of Mega Blast, but it's not. It's a bad item. And the Void and Lil Delirium, which could be decent Angel Room items, are in both pools.

You'd think there would be an Angel equal to Brimstone, using the Angel boss lasers, but there isn't.

Angel Rooms are kind of in a bind right now. Even the Holy Trinity of items, as you mentioned, I'm not really sure The Body is really that great. And all three are found in treasure rooms.

Also add to the fact that at most you only get one item if you do at all. And even when you no items in the devil deal, you still have multiple chances of getting guppy items

Every facet of Angel Rooms is done poorly

- Only one item. Devil deals can have up to four (rarely)! And you can take all four if you have the health.

- Dud Devil deal rooms contain either three red chests, one red chest and two black hearts, or three dark bums. All three of these are more useful than three Soul Hearts, Three Infinite Chests, one Eternal Heart, or one Eternal Heart and four Soul Hearts that require keys to get.

- Angel Rooms appear to be designed so that the player needs to make the choice of if they want the powerful Devil items, or hold off and get even more power via Angel Rooms. Except that hasn't ever been the case. The idea seems to be that you sacrifice early power via Devil Rooms, for even more power later via Angel Rooms. But in reality you just sacrifice power for the entire run because only like 2 items in the Angel Pool can match stuff like Brimstone.

- Without the need to get key pieces via Angel Rooms for all but one character, their one actually positive niche was removed

- The game is set up to encourage the player to be at one or less red hearts, so Devil Deals set up a situation to lead the player to that end result naturally. Angel rooms don't, and a few Angel items even boost red health.

- Seraphim isn't as good as Leviathan and is harder to get

Things they could do

- The easiest is just grab a metric ton of Angel items from the Workshop. Make all 10ish items they add Angel Room items, no exceptions. Make them good items, or at least on par with Devil room items.

- Make red hearts more valuable, so Devil Deals are a bigger loss. Add items that encourage you to have a certain number of red hearts.

- Add more items to the Seraphim transformation. Add Seraphim to the Seraphim transformation (it isn't, which is hilarious)

- Remove items like the Seraphim, and Mind/Soul/Body from the treasure room pool. Way too many Angel items aren't exclusive to Angel Rooms.

- Add better dud Angel Rooms that don't just throw Soul Hearts at the player. The ones with the glowing infinite chests are a start, but maybe add a variant that has a Golden Key or a Paperclip that spawns next to it. Maybe a room packed with Trinkets.

- Add multi-item rooms. Three item rooms where you can only pick one. And two item rooms where you get both.

- Lower the frequency of dud Angel rooms. It seems like they're way more common than dud Devil deals (which seem to rarely come up).

Just unlocked Azazel and he's a ton of fun to play as. Even beat boss rush my first try.

After beating Mom's heart I stupidly went into the chest instead of moving on :/

Got this game thinking I wouldn't like it, but I was curious. I'm hooked. I get it. Might switch to digital version on switch so I don't have to worry about cart

The physical was so tempting, but yeah. Digital and I always have Isaac available. It's pretty great.

Oh shit, I've done that the two times I've beet mom's heart. What is there to move on to? New to this game btw.

More! It's spoilers, but this game has been out for so long now (and isn't very story-oriented)... but without getting too much into it: much more.

You might still be early enough in the game where the opportunity to go further hasn't popped up yet. If you kill Mom's Heart and something else appears along with the chest, like a Devil Door or whatever, you can keep going. If there's nothing besides the Chest, you're done.

I think my game borked

There's a very rare Devil Room that has an Angel Statue in it. Think of it as super deep lore.

Does this game HAVE lore outside the what they say in the manual? Like... is there a story you unlock as you play?

Got my copy a while ago but I haven't gotten to play it yet but I had no idea there was any lore O:

There are several endings that peel back at what's actually happening but that's about it. Don't expect something like Dark Souls, it's still a game about shooting tears at poop.

There is in the sense of piecing together the author's interpretation of what is going on. Nothing too major, but a fun conversation to have.

I tried it on the PC (the original barebones), deleted it after 15 minutes. Couldn't see the hype. I got it free on PSN for my Vita, it was better since it was handheld and had one more DLC I think? It lasted 1 hour and I was frustrated I kept dying. Deleted it. Then i got it for iOS and hated the touch controls even more, deleted again.

Last try, I got it digitally for the Switch. Wow, I actually enjoyed it and have been playing it daily. I guess I didn't appreciate the dying and roguelike-ness nature in the beginning. This is a game you have to endure and play a few or dozen games before you start to appreciate it, it's like fine wine.
