iOS Gaming December 2016 | It's app-me, Mario

Probably, in your mind, it happened this way. I said that because there is a study that compared freemium to gambling, but you dont know anything about that, right?
But "marketing" and "studies" aren't the same thing?

Defend a washed down version of a real game to be even better to those that are real games

Same answer as above
At no point did I imply that Pokémon Go was better than the console games?

Again, a product of your preconceptions and fears
Wait, so what was I supposed to fear? So you can't see that your aggressive way of addressing the votes was wrong?

I just did a sentiment call, as a gamer. You then mentioned me that word which I didnt know it existed...
And now you know that word. It's something you do.

If you werent pissed off you would come back at me with that 'belittling' thing. You are just lying now
Wait, what? I'm a liar now? Because I don't feel pissed?

Awesome idea. Pachimari, bye bye. I cant believe I am having a rough time because I said an opinion, my god...
You missed the point again.

oh yeah i forgot gaf has an ignore list

problem solved
Sound suggestion. I'll make use of that.

People is just getting mad ahead the imminent launch of Super Mario Run :_)

Calm down, guys! There are copies enough for everyone!

I'm actually wondering if the servers will be down at launch. Depends on how much we have to ping the server to play the game!

I thought the same thing, now with the game requiring an online connection and all. And it has like 20 million people signed up to be notified of the release, wasn't it?

Can someone give me a quick rundown on Bully? It's one of the few Rockstar games I never got to play, what makes it different/unique compared to the GTA games?

There are more people downloading iOS updates right away than there are people that will download a game on the app store right away. It'll be fine, what you may encounter is the "game not up yet in my local store / refreshing doesn't help" latency.

But those are Apple's servers, which are mostly fine. SMR's servers are the ones of DeNa/Nintendo. We don't know how it's gonna hold up, but one would assume they have prepared in advance.

Well guys, I am making an iOS INDIE Game of the Year later, where people can vote for indie games. I wont allow big corporations of big franchises, so that thread wont be populated with casuals who only played Pokemon GO (and add other 9 titles just to put it in :p). You arr welcome.

This isn't nessisary, put Indy games on your game of the year list. The whole point of the GOTY threads, lists, features, to me anyway, has always been the lists building up to the final decision. I could care less what wins GOTY, I want the list of games I didn't play that were in the running. I always find stuff I've not tried, or am motivated to buy games that I had held off on earlier.

As far as I'm concerned, it's the also-ran's that really matter. You individually may not agree with the game of the year, but all these other games get another chance to be in the spotlight. Casuals playing Pokemon Go won't even open the Indy thread, meanwhile someone voting for Pokemon Go in the GOTY thread sees, The Battle for Polytopia or Solitairica.

You may be right. I just think of the millions of gamers who have had issues with day 1 game servers being hammered into oblivion. Hopefully it's a non-issue. I'm going to remain positive until the servers prevent me from playing. :3

DeNa has experience with this kinda thing right? They've launched some pretty big games in the past. Not Mario big tho...

Yeah, those gacha games.

Here's an interesting game coming out next year: Hidden Folks And they are currently looking for beta testers if you are interested. You can sign up here! If you want to help them translate, then this link is for you.

I'm also currently into the Fugl beta and it controls very well, and have some very nicely animated animals you can find while you fly around as a bird.

Yes. Create a Nintendo Account at the bottom.

I'm guessing Mario will be 10 am or so, yes?

I only briefly played it a bit (my uncle died the day I started it and I kinda never went back to it, not the game's fault), but: you had to attend classes and be places at a certain time of day. From what I understand, you also get to play sports or be in a clubs, and you can attend parties or something? I don't know that it's possible to play it like 6-star mayhem style GTA.

Nobody knows really. But it might hit the store in 3 hours time, but that is also just a guess.

Here's another interesting game coming out next year, which is currently in beta until January 3. Durango is a MMORPG where you'll have to deal with survival and rebuilding society, and guess what, dinosaurs are roaming the lands! Nexon is behind it and has worked on it for a few years, but it seems to finally shape up.

I don't know if I'll be too fond on the MMO aspect (even though I like that genre), but the game looks good in the trailer I linked above.

Seems like Lumines Vs isn't coming out in the next 2 weeks? They promised it would release this year and they have been very quiet about this multiplayer game. It might have been silently delayed till next year. Anyway, I'm still looking forward to that one.

I don't see where he warned anyone.

Also, who is he to ban? Matt Frost had a way of looking at things, me and others tried arguing with him, and we ended up just disagreeing. And that's fine too, because we can't agree or look at things the same ways with everything.

Actually there has been an indie GOTY thread the last few years, but it's PC focused and designed as way highlight the year's best releases rather than finding a winner

1) Let's keep the discussion and atmosphere in here cordial.

2) You don't define what's a game or not. Capturing Pokemon out. ( REMAINDER OF QUOTE SNIPPED FOR THE SAKE OF BREVITY)

But hey, I don't speak for him so carry on!

Haven't played it on iOS yet, but it's my favorite Rockstar game from the PS2 era. Even better than San Andreas (and that was my first GTA game and left quite an impression).

The smaller scale of the world gives it a charming intimacy and liveliness that you can't get from the sprawling cityscapes. The days progress, the seasons change. The missions are surprisingly inventive and characters well-written. It just might be the most unique game Rockstar has made in the last decade, given its setting, characters, and overall tone.
Okay, Bully might have the best touch controls in a Rockstar game yet

Righto, so essentially next week for any other big releases? Fingers crossed then.

we have 1 week to squeeze BoI in but that expansion was delayed to January so...

probably nothing : (

which would be a shame, will be spending lots of time on trains getting to/from the holidays and BoI would be perfect

I was hoping for:

Death Road to Canada (Jan at a guess now)
Armajet
ES: Legends
Titanfall Frontline
Shadowstone

And, fuck it, Torchlight as well as I am dying to see it not suck (but I feel it will based on what I have seen so far).

The only hope I hold onto of BoI releasing before 2017 is the fact that Tyrone never mentioned the iOS release being in January alongside AB + in the recent blog. Which makes me want to believe that they still might release is before then.

Edit:
Posted this when it released
thanks, will probably pick it up then to see how it is

It is kind of odd that Nintendo specifically gave a Dec. 15 release date for SMR and half of the world will likely already be on Dec. 16 before it is released at this point.

Just imagine a GTA game in a high school setting and you've got the gist of things. I don't remember it breaking the GTA mold all that much other than things related to the setting. Think of it as a really good GTA game that happens to take place in high school.

I'm probably gonna start Bully tonight for real. I laughed that I could beat up the teachers, and it's cool that they can catch you too sending you to the principal.

Well, Bully just became backward compatible with Xbox One. Had been on my mobile list to buy at some point...decisions, decisions...

Okay, got to say, my initial concerns were mistaken. I'm really liking this so far. It doesn't have the speed and bigger movesets of Rayman or Lost Socks, but it counters that with a wide array of special tiles, lengthy multi-route levels, controls and movement that just feels right, and a heavy emphasis on precise timing
