Insomniac Games open to making Sunset Overdrive 2 if given the opportunity

It most likely didn't make the money back or return enough on the investment in order to make a sequel. If it had we'd have heard about it by now.

Insomniac shouldn't be worried, they be swimin' in Spider-Man money now.

The money they keep spending on VR games

Sunset Overdrive would be a great IP for a mobile endless runner. (If insomniac needed the money to self fund a propper sequel.)

Sunset overdrive had a cool aesthetic and pretty fun game play, but was ruined by being open world with terribly forced humor.

obviously IMO

I really liked SS, and even enjoyed the humour, though in that laughing at, not with, sort of way. I do think the humour generally fit the aesthetic.

Beautiful game and fun mechanics, but the humor just falls flat and made the overall campaign a chore to get through. Borderlands suffered from this same problem (for me)

Come on, guys. Let's not pretend Sunset Overdrive was anything more than a mediocre game that couldn't even keep exciting for the duration it its own game, let alone establish an exciting world or premise worth making a sequel for.

No one's talked about Sunset Overdrive for years, up until now, because it's boring. Let it lie.

Keep that opinion to your self. SO is one of the finest games this gen and the Xbox One's best game to date.

I'm guessing the situation is similar to what happened with Ryse, Microsoft will only fund a sequel if Insomniac sells the IP to them.

Though it wouldn't happen any time soon anyway, since Insomniac already have three games announced (Spider-Man plus two Oculus games) and Spider-Man's meant to have their biggest dev team ever.

Really enjoyed the game and everything about it even that cool little neogaf nod. The game was dumb fun and should of been taken as such. It was appeasing to play and look at. Please let this happen just hopefully it will get the attention it deserves this time.

First they could port Sunset Overdrive 1 to PC then talk about sequel :D

Goodluck with that. It would've been out on pc by now if it was approved by ms.

The game bombed, there won't be a sequel. Insomniac is now back in bed with sony.

Please take that terrible humour out the back and shoot it before starting on a sequel pls.

Keep the gameplay though

Fuck out of here with that. The game had a great sense of humor. SO has more personality than almost any other game. Hell, even the respawn and fast travel animations are hilarious.

SO is the videogame equivalent of Tom Hank's character from The Terminal. It's in an odd situation wherein multiple loopholes prevent it from coming to PC. Insomniac can't do it because the PC port right is with MS and Microsoft won't do it because it's not their IP and they have no obligation to grant Insomniac more avenues to make money.

Doubt it, MS were apparently less than impressed with the development troubles Crytek were having with Ryse, which is why they wanted to buy the IP from them.

I'm good without one. I'll be happy for you guys if it happens but I thought it was super boring and also cheesy which I could have looked past if it wasn't boring

Don't force your bad taste on the rest of the forum. In my book it's the best Xbox One exclusive so far, and I'd play a sequel in a hot second.

SO2 isn't in development and Ryse is in the bushes somewhere, I'm curious to see if Microsoft has any new IP coming to coincide with Scorpio to fill those voids.

The game is all about traversal. It wouldn't work in linear levels.

Loved the first one, please let this happen at some point. Best traversal ever.

Microsoft doesn't seem interested in allowing IP to grow. They're more than happy to create/help create new IP, but they won't let it grow unless it sells gangbusters out of the gate.

What I find strange, is that they DID allow Forza Horizon to grow and now by the third iteration, it's really hitting it's stride both commercially and critically. I don't get why they don't do this wit other IPs.

Sunset Overdrive is definitely a franchise in the making if MS gives it a chance and Insomniac can address what was holding back the first game.

What does that have to do with them making new IP?

It doesn't, but neither does Scorpio as it will not have any exclusive games so why would any new IPs coincide with its release? I'm guessing Scalebound and Crackdown 3 will launch around the same time as Scorpio. Maybe Sea Of Thieves too, but who knows what Hell is going on with that game.

Surface of Me

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.
Yep. Both Insomniac and MS are speaking positively about it too, which makes me hopeful we'll see a sequel in the future. It deserves one imo.

It would still be a while away out if it does happen. Spider Man is being made by the team at Insmoniac that made SO IIRC.

Spider-Man is made by both of Insomniac's studios. "All hands on deck" I think was the phrase used.

I was gonna say why wouldn't they rather do Ratchet & Clank first as it was the more successful game, but then I remembered they have a bigger stake in Sunset Overdrive with the IP ownership.

People like you are the reason the GTA series lacks the charm that it had in the PS2 era.

Fuck out of here with that. The game had a great sense of humor. SO has more personality than almost any other game. Hell, even the respawn and fast travel animations are hilarious.
Nope. You can be funny without using cringey humour right out of 9GAG or r/funny

Because Scalebound has been know about for years now and Sea of Thieves might possibly already be out when E3 rolls around. All the rest of their games are sequels, its time to announce some new IP.
